I absolutely love Wally, especially the YJ verson, however, the only thing that I don't like about his character, even though he's my fav, is how they handled him and then killed him off. Wally is an insanely strong character (which I find really sad that we didn't get to see more of, especially with him being thrown aside in s2) yet they decided to neft him a shit ton. They made him a lot slower than both Barry and Bart, they put him into retirement because his speed was killing him, and then they gave him a non-justified ending where they practically made him a punching bag. Wally definitely deserved to be in the rest of the seasons and not killed off like he didn't even matter from the beginning.
Wally West was one of those fictional characters that taught me the big picture isnt always so complicated sometimes its just checking to make sure someones okay and giving them the helping hand they might need
I think this has greatly changed in recent years. Unsurprisingly, things magically got better once Didio and Johns left DC. I think DC is now in a great place with its comics.

I try to at least be thankful that DC made wally the main flash in the flash book again for the last few years. I gotta mention a couple of years ago when I was a teen I made a youtube video literally just like this, talking about how much dc hates wally and how great of a character he is, mentioned heroes in crisis too and all that. I checked the video again this week and it now has a few thousand views, I like to believe jeremy adams watched it 😅
DC has ruined too many legacy characters over the years: Wally, Tim, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Connor Hawke, and Roy Harper. And it all started with Dan Didio. Didio is and always will be a bloody idiot. He was just an overgrown child who just preferred the old characters and hated the legacy characters, so he decided to screw them over and give the middle finger to fans. Why on earth was he in charge of DC for so long? He should have been fired from day 1. Wally West has always been my favourite DC hero, and it makes me sick that dc keeps f#%^^^^^ him over. The only piece of DC media to treat Wally with any respect is JL animated series. I know that version was a mixture of Wally and Barry, but it was my introduction to the character and it made me a fan. Seriously, the level of disrespectful DC has for Wally and other legacy heroes is just shameful.
funniest thing is Barry is technically a legacy character in some way too in both his original origin and Mark Waid's post crisis version of his origin Barry was inspired by Jay Garrick to become the Flash when he got his powers and in Mark Waid's version Barry was even a bit worried about what Jay would say if he found out he took his mantle
The Flash that gave the audience a lot of the things they like about the Flash. Even the costume. And then Dan DiDio and others were like "Take him behind the shed." At least Geoff Johns, who was always on his "Silver Age is king" mindset eventually reached his "My god, what have I done" arc. He set up Wally as really important, and then Dan DiDio, and to a lesser extent, Scott Snyder and Tom King were like "Nah, Imma do my own thing". So we never got to see Johns' vision for what Wally was going to do. But hey. At least they gave him Dr. Manhattan's powers like it was a video game power up. Hooray. Man, I love comics.
Here's a non fan's understanding of Flash. Jay Garrik: Well meaning dork who runs fast. Barry Allen: Jay Garrick in a mask. Wally West: Barry Allen with red hair. Bart: Who? The story doesn't start with Barry, it starts with Jay. Don't know why Dan DiDio was lying to his audience there.
When flash told trickster after your done with drink turn yourself in and trickster said you got me again flash at that moments he was my favorite line ever
Because they hate wally west he is one of ogs but they killed him for stupid man just let jay garrick died instead he is useless and let bart go to future and his rules given to wally then wally became more faster
So this man basically has Akira’s view point toward Gohan: a side kick type character who ultimately becomes than the main character to ultimately be sidelined because the focus needs to be on the main character.
I have to agree with the view on legacy characters now-a-days. Not all of them are bad but it's gotten out of hand to see so many characters pass down their superhero identity to someone else. It was okay when only a handful were doing it. I really like Batman Beyond, X-23, and Wally himself. But it's come to a point where it's now an excuse to continue the name of something forward to cash in on nostalgia value, while under the disguise that it's something new and different. Plus, it's just lazy writing to get something going fast as opposed to making new characters. There was a point in time when The Flash was a new concept, as was Superman and Batman. Dick Greyson is a representation of how to do a legacy character right, he took on a new superhero identity. An identity that he can be recognized for. And despite being a legacy character himself, Wally West earned his place as The Flash with the fans.
DC remembered that so they decided that for the next Elseworld line, Absolute DC, Wally would be the Flash and given the premise of the universe Barry will have little to no part in Wally's origin story.
I don’t necessarily agree with what Didio said. But I understand where he was coming from. But I would have respected it all more if he had really committed to it instead of all the half-measures used in the New 52. For example, he wanted Barbara Gordon back as Batgirl rather than as Oracle. But instead of resetting the Batgirl stuff entirely, he erases Oracle but keeps “Killing Joke” (a story even Alan Moore regrets writing). If you’re going to reset, reset everything, anticipate losing old readers and double down on gaining new ones. It would have been riskier but I would have respected it more.
Just... let the characters age. Then let them retire, let them rest. We don't need to have Bruce Wane/Batman stories 100 years from now, let new heroes take over. Look at the Greeks, they had stories with Hercules and Achilles, and then they were done. But those stories were so great that we're still telling them now. They didn't need to constantly come up with more stories for them to stay relevant. It's not like we haven't seen old Bruce Wayne stories before, just look at Dark Knight Returns and Batman Beyond. And those were great.
@@Nite-Mite doesn't mean it's a good or smart idea, just because it makes sense in your head doesn't mean it will work in practice. These characters survive the test of time because they sell well and their stories are still likeable. DC has tried similar formats like this before and it failed, fans still like Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent in these roles so ending them for good and canceling their books won't help DC it would financially kill them because it would be harder to sell and new original character and make same amount that Batman & Superman books and novels bring in. Sometimes it can work like Wally as The Flash and Grayson as Batman and sometimes it can fail like Tim Fox and Jon Kent. These concepts were lightning in a bottle and had different factors as to why they worked and why some can't work again. Letting age out and retire sounds good on paper that is true but the risk of failure is too high so respectfully *no* this is a bad idea.

Ontop of that in the past if you wanted to make comic like stories and had a character idea you'd goto DC and Marvel to get your character/story out there. And finally you should notice a LOT of the best characters in both marvel and DC were made by the same handful of people. A lot of which are much older now and either only focusing on their existing characters, retired, or dead. And we just don't really have anyone at the level of them creatively.
