Right nice job. Do be sure to check the steering box. I have a 250S (1967) and the steering box mounts were cracked where they go through the sub frame, actually it was the frame that cracked around the through frame tubes. Had to weld them up.
Just became a member and while listening to the video I remembered that this is a common weak spot on the W108's as well as the W111, fintails right. Or maybe is W110, I am not sure. But we had a 230S that the bolts broke a few times until we realized it was a recalled item for mercedes.
Hi, great to c how you do it. There are always many ways... You mentioned to check the fixing of the steering at the frame. VERY good point, sometimes neglected, but dangerous. All 6.3 have an issue there due to the fact that the engine (and everything) wasnt made for this car, all too heavy. Often one or even two holes(?!) have to be welded and also the side member is too weak and "opens" itself sometimes up to the frame mounts (which we call joghourt becher..., itself not easy to find nowadays). I wish you persistance! Oliver
I will be tackling that soon. I have noticed that someone before has welded those bolt heads? I will plan that repair soon. Thanks for your comments. Cheers John.
@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 clean carefully from paint etc. the bolt heads and check cracks in the frame around. I would expect that cracks there go further....all 10 of the 6.3 I know hav/had an issue there. Best luck for your further doings with the car. Mine (ex-US Fla.car) is in 387, I can understand very well some owner repainted this car.😀. Best Rgds and fortune for you and your country. Oliver
Awesome videos, nice to find someone with the same passion for the W108s, W109s. I personally hate social media with a passion, but may need to revive my FB account to join your group over there. If we lived closer I would definitely volunteer to help. Cheers from Orlando, FL.
I agree, social media can be a royal pain. Though i find the groups a ton of fun. Loads of really nice, friendly and knowledgeable people. Yes, I love the 108/109 body. To me they represent everything about Mercedes I love and are still relatively within reach financially. Please come and join the groups Frank. Mercedes Maintenance and Mercedes rescue both on facebook. Thanks for your comment. Cheers John.
@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 Thanks John! I will resuscitate my FB account to the wifey's satisfaction as well, and I will join the groups. Thanks for the invite!
Very nice video sir, made me a subscriber. Are you in the USA? I see some harbor freight Items in your garage. HF has a fender mount engine support (80.00). I use this when I drop the sub-frames on my R107 roadsters. Cant wait to do this on my W108 4.5
Hi Victor. Thanks for the comment. Yep I'm in the US Northern California. I must admit to going to Harbor freight on occasion:) Don't judge me:):) What is the engine mount support you mentioned? I have a 107 380 sl that I'm going to be working on soon. It needs the bushings on the throttle linkage. Its a real nice looking car . I'll probably be selling that one on the facebook group. Mercedes maintenance. That's where the green 109 sold. come join us on there. Cheers John.
