That cylindrical shape device on the transmission is the kickdown solenoid. It operates the mechanical linkage via switch inside the car, activated by the accelerator pedal.
I am a new Dutch subscriber... watched all your video's so far.. Will this 6.3L get "better" as even your 4.5L or are they coming to the same level? I like watching the job you job on it.. from my eye you are working very thorough and doing a good and restoration as muchas back to original.. keep continuing like this ! 😎
Thank you. It will be better than the 4.5. I'm pretty much going through everything. Body, subframe, axle driveline, paint etc. I don't yet know the condition of the Engine. I will be taking a compression test first. The previous owner told me it has very good compressions. Cheers John.
Yep, but heating can also help break that connection of corrosion. What it was I was heating the nut on the stud. I got most of them out, but a couple of the studs broke just below the surface. Common problem from my understanding. I may try the weld out method but that's for another day:)
@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 I'm not experienced with automotive bolts but a reverse drill bit kit might be better than welding. Since I got your attention, i gotta say this series on the 6.3 will be a classic. What a task, rebuilding one of the greatest vehicles ever.
I'm looking at that engine, and imagine a mechanic needing to replace a part while in the engine bay.... and understand better why why so many don't want to work on my pumy 250s :-(
@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 i had the 4.5 many years ago, and i remember looking at the 6.3s on their engine bays, it made me feel so small, so less a man :-( My 2.5 is fine. Its a euro spec model so its meant for economic fuel....4 on the floor and Euro headlights makes this a rare gem in California.
@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 I'm in the LA area, but once the weather cools down, and I stop blowing fuses and finally set the electric choke where I'm happy, I'll take this up to Sausalito.
Dont Mercedes has real metalparts? I mean, welding a plate here and there in such a fine car just feels wrong for me. Change a hole part and spotweld it a of factoty
Actually there are very few metal replacement panels still available for the 108/109. I do have some replacement whole trunk well panels that I will be spot welding back in. The drivers side rocker for example. i will be using a whole complete unit from a donor car and spot welding it back in just like factory. As far as the very small minor areas there's nothing to do there but to butt weld in replacement fresh metal (not lap weld) and make the join as invisible as possible. With a car of this age and very few metal replacement panels not much choice. Cheers John.
@@scotten34 Hi you're welcome. In fact your comment the other day led me to do more research. In a nutshell i was able to locate a brand new left wheelhouse and strut panel for the leftside!! I read the comments and take them seriously. Yours has led me to do a better job and I thank you for that. I have to put my saving hat back on now:) Cheers John.
This will be a brand new old car when you’re finished! Great work so far, John! Thanks for sharing!
Great videos!

I'm amazed there was no swearing when that bolt sheared or was it edited out? Enjoying our progress. It's looking good.
Me too:) I was to busy getting heat stroke. 😄 Cheers John
I have watched one of your videos before & you mentioned a site to get parts from ?..
I like these guys. Decent prices and shipping dosen't take too long. Cheers John 🍻 www.mbclassics.de/Home

You put the heat on the bolt, so it expanded. You should have heated the surrounding area, if anything.
