  • From box to tuning, a build video for the Elecraft T1 QRP ATU.
    www.elecraft.co...
I did this video because when I was researching the T1 I found only a couple of english language videos of the Tuner, and no build video.
Although this is the first Elecraft kit I've built I've enjoyed watching some of the build videos folks have posted on TH-cam in the past and thought I'd add my own slant on the idea.
This video doesn't go through ever step, but shows a few of the major bits and points out some of the minor issues I had.
Overall I found it to be a great kit, and the only issues were one resistor being very slightly longer than the hole spacing on the board and a couple of connectors that didn't mate as well as the manual suggested the should, probably because the manufacturer had changed the parts since the original design was done.
Once in a blue moon I post some ham related stuff to my blog as well, at www.trash.co.nz

Hey Chris, let me say that this si one of the best and more useful videos i seen on youtube on how to assembly an electronic part. Not only because is interesting see how to assembly an elecraft T1 but also because you show many soldier techniques that many other videos takes for granted or leaves out BUT, for many peoples (like me) looks at how to soldier on a PCB is a great help. With this video you teach me many things ! Thank you very much !

It's been a while since I thought about my soldering methodology being aviation grade MIL-STD but this did, I use flux and pre-tin and pre-bend all components religiously lol. Anyway, thanks for this, I wasn't sure wether to get the kit or ready, but I will get the kit and do some small mods to it straight up, lacquer the toroids and use some conformal coating on a fair bit of the board.

ROFL... Used to work in an industry where that was common practice (not mil) but can't say I've ever thought about it for ham stuff. Good quality fine flux-cored solder and I'm good to go. :-)

This is not a good tuner for the 817. Takes to long to tune and you have the possibility of blowing finals

nr3rful don't you technically have the risk of blowing finals on almost any radio using any tuner? I'll be running my 817 with an amp to get 10w and protect the finals anyway before I get the T1, the amp is sacrificial in case anything goes wrong, tuning or too much duty cycle with data.
