I’ve been following you on Instagram for at least 5 years now and I’ve always been impressed with your photography. I’m glad you’ve started uploading to your channel more recently and I hope you stick to it consistently because your videos are seriously good. I can’t wait for more.
Man I must say, that lut made a world of a difference. I just tested it on a clip I had. I'm trying to see if I can use CLog & CLog 3 and wow the colors are different. Only hurdle I have to get over now is being able to edit them since my laptop struggles. Really great video! Thanks again for the LUT!
After lots of tinkering, I’ve found that the CLOG-3 cinema setting yields the best results, I’ll also overexpose by about a stop as the DR and retention of data is closer to the highlights for Canon log gammas!
@@travisp.hodgkinson.artist Not necessarily, always at 800 iso or higher in clog3. I set zebras at 70 and 95% and I’ll push the exposure right up to the 95 point, then slightly back off. It’s typically registered as at least 1 stop over on the meter, but the histogram will also lean a bit right
You don't need to upload to Premiere Pro (or editing program of choice) to see the Rec-709 color grade. Just turn on the "View Assist" setting on tab 3 of your Canon camera menu and that will apply the color grade to your camera preview screen (albeit a bit over exposed if you are shooting with a +1 exposure in C-Log 3). To answer the noise question from several comments - there's a few things you can do. Try to stick to the native ISO 800 for minimum noise (anything above that gets amplified - kinda like turning up the sound on your record player = yes it will be louder, but you'll hear more hiss and pops now too). But, there is also a 2nd native ISO on this camera (dual native) which is ISO 3,200. Use a fast lens with a very wide aperture (this will give you a shallower depth of field, which is desirable for filming people - makes them "pop" out more. Shoot in 4k or higher resolution. Add lighting or reflectors.
Epic! Same, when I got my R6, I immediately starting shooting in the 10 but c log and then c log 3 when the update came in. Going to try out the rec709 conversion lut you linked! Also, those LUTS and presets for joining get emailed automatically or somewhere in the login page? Thanks man!
this conversion out does look good. a bit better than the canon one. thank you. however I still can't get my log footage from my R5 to not look grainy. I find it looks better without clog being used. when I've tried clog 3 im at iso 800, 180 shutter and I use ND's. I expose dead on and in low light situations 1-2 stops over exposed. and im just never happy with it. edit with fcpx. any tips lmk.
@@katlehoseisa213 I've even tried 2 stops. I give up. I hate the look of it. I'm using F1.4 glass and 2.8 glass. Just done with it. Standard picture profile just looks so good.
Hi Bryan thanks for the video..i am getting a lot of noise with eos r6 ,especially with c log 3 ...never had this problem with my eos r... do you have the same issue?
@@crazypersonlol34 i figured out myself. First if you are shooting indoors, its better to not use clog3, use clog2 instead. First it has much more scope in post processing as the base iso is 800. If you have to use clog3, make sure to choose iso 400, expose two stops over and pull back in post. Also dont use canon gamut, ise davinci gamut, and luminance mapping. Can also choose to reduce chroma noise a bit. But the above should do it.
@@crazyKurious sadly the R6 does not have clo2, just clog and clog3. Is there an equivalent of davinci gamut on Premiere? Why do you suggest to not use the canon official lut?
Just came across your film and the information has been a great help, so thank you. Can I ask did you use BT 709 or Cinema Gamut colourspace on the R5 settings? P.
Hey great video! I also signed up for mood sound designs to get the free LUTs and Presets but I didnt recieve anything? Are you still giving those cinematic LUTs for free?
I really do not understand what I am doin wrong. I am filmin in Clog3 on the canon R5c and when putting into premire and seleting the correct lut and even trying to adjust the sliders it still looks so ass! I dont understand what I am doing wrong.
Hello, i can imagine that you are very busy. But may i ask you about my configuration? I own the Canon R5 with the Atomos Ninja V. I have set my camera as follow: Movie rec. Size: 4K-U 59.94p All-I Log: S Log 3 activated Color Space: BT.2020 Atomos Settings: Source: HDMI / UHD59.94 / 2.0 Camera Output: Rec.709 Legalize: Yes Record: ProRes HQ UHD59.94 Now my questions are: - are my settings good in term of quality? - should i set my camera to 4K HQ mode? But then i need to shoot in 24frames - which color space should i use? BT.709? BT.2020? Cinema Gamut? - should i legalize the footage on the Ninja? - is ProRes good? I know its many questions? But i am little confused about it. Many many thanks in advance
Clog 3 is just a gamma profile, isn't it? I'm not quite sure why it wouldn't be possible to use Clog3 in combination with H264 for compression, Canon just so happens to force you to use H265 when recording in log3, which makes the files a nightmare to process (unless you've got an M1Pro / M1Max CPU). I'm currently doing proxies again, which slow down my workflow considerably. Might be forced to jump ship and get me one of those tasty macbooks. Anyone here using H265 Clog3 footage on an Intel CPU build without issues?
you camera quality from r5 ? bro no way I have a same camera similar lighting I can't take a with no noise such a rich black and white how do you do that ..this lut which you shared with us this is wrong one ...
The real mvp for providing that rec 709

@@travisp.hodgkinson.artist I’ll adjust ISO, just not below 800. I’ll leave shutter speed set as appropriate, then use ND or ISO to dial in exposure
awesome video, set my R6 up and cant wait to shoot tomorrow and test it out. Thanks for the LUTS as well.

Great video mate
Saw that intro and hit the subscribe button. 😊 That's the kind of feeling I want to free with my new projects
THANK YOU FOR THE FREE LUT C-LOG3!!! Luv it
Appreciate this bro!
You sir, have a new subscriber. One of the best color grading vids I’ve seen.
h264 is a codec not a gamma/gammut. You are comparing clog3 vs rec709. Clog3 is most likely also recorded in h264 codec
Clog3 is recorded in 10-bit H.265 Internally (or ProRes/ProRes RAW if recording externally). :) :)
Great lut thanks!
Thank you greak vid helped me level up right there
Nice video Bryan!! Really helpful 😄👍
Thx for your help as was getting crazy trying editing my clog3 footage and now have a starting point 🤙

Great colors! Did u shoot the talking head parts in 4K HQ or normal btw? Looks sweet!
What’s your take on the clog color space? 709, 2020, and cinema gamut? What are the differences? Thank you!
Can anyone answer this?

does this convetion lut works on fcpx?
great video
Do you always need to use a Lut for Canon C-Log 3 or can you just colour grade it yourself?
Thank you sir
I subscribed but I don't know where to download the free premiere luts
Hey man awesome video, do you expose Clog 3 using view assist on or Off? I know with VA on it slightly overexposes the image
i always use view assist, super helpful when filming! just double check my histogram if i feel like something might be overexposed! cheers!
Why not just use zebra's with the appropriate IRE set specific for your subject matter?
Hey, Dude! Great video! By the way... do you have some C-Log 3 sample to share? 10 secs or less! Just for LUT tests. Thanks!
