I am native Hong Konger, I can tell you that she is the bestese Cantonese tutor who I watched on TH-cam for couple of years, she is very well in Chinese traditional and language of use in HK way without any misunderstanding, she is very good both in Cantonese and English. Highly recommended for who want to learn true HK Cantonese.
cathay pacific should play this video on every flight to Hong Kong.
they should!
Off the Great Wall I love dim sums aspecially the Shu mai
Yodas Lovechild Brilliant! 😂😂😂
Yodas Lovechild lol
Yodas Lovechild k g
As an English guy who knows absolutely nothing about Dim Sum, your guide blew me away. Thank you so much!! Amazing guide.
To avoid being ripped off, I would suggest you don't go to any Chinese restaurant in UK for dim sum
I watched this with my Asian mom and even she was impressed with how much you go into detail and how accurate you are.
Now, I'm going to share this video with my friends of different cultures.
And I'm craving dim sum.
Thanks for this video!!
This is awesome. I love the videos you guys make. Also someone here corrected the pronunciation of Worcestershire sauce as wo-tes-sure which is wrong. It's wuss-ta-sha. Stress on the first and the "a" is a schwa. (But then Ben could've told you that) :)
This guy is correct in all regards. :D
Ignore everyone else with their poor phonetic pronunciations of Worcestershire!
This makes me hungry
Thanks for your suggestions! Will def check them out!
I used jyutping here because there are so many different variations. Worcestershire sauce is 'kip jup' which is usually served with the beef balls.
When you said.. 'Worcestershire' all us BBC's were thinking... 'huh??' lol
Great video! I wanted to add that for siu mai the pork meat should be "cut meat" (chopped by hand) rather than machine processed. The difference in texture is very noticeable! :)
Awesome!
Thank you so much for your support! If we can get to 100,000 by the end of the year that would mean soooo much to us!
My parents are from Guangzhou so i pretty much live off of dim sum...and you also listed all of my favorite dishes. Your cantonese is amazing!! Keep making these wonderful vids!!!
Always the best OTGW video~
ahh.. forgot about that. Will do!
Such a wonderful clip! Very well done! The outtakes were awesome! Thank you for this.
I can't agree more.
Your video is very well organised starting with the most popular dishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Never heard of that. Interesting!
thank you! i like it too!
Your awesome videos have added so much to our Hong Kong based Shadowrun game. Thanks, and keep making awesome stuff!
Yes.... I realized. There's bloopers of it at the end too.
Yes, you are right. I didn't go into too much detail about the other dumplings. But fun guo flour has more starch in it, that's why it's thicker and less clear, shark fin dumpling use skin that's more like wonton skin but not exactly. Either way it is not good if the skin is too thick and have the texture of rubber. Just want to clarify that.
Actually my favorite dim sum is some of what you've mentioned here. The Turnip cake is probably my most favorite, them followed by Rice Rolls, Char Siu Bau, and Shiu Mai :D Though sometimes fresh steamed Pork Dumplings with soy Sauce and that awesome roasted soy bean and chilli oil is perfect.
You make excellent Dim sum choices 😄
Great guide! Thank you.
No Poop!!! Always a pleasure when you don't get shit in your dumplings. 👍😊
I worked with a guy who would always as for 'Neopolitan Ice Cream' for dessert at Chinese restaurants. He loved to hear them say, 'We no have neroparita'.
I love dim sum so that was really helpful! Thanks!
I watched this months ago when you first released the video in August. Funny thing is that now my mom emailed me your link with the forwarded subject "A Lesson in Dim Sum"
You guys are getting popular with the old school crowd who forward emails with video links!
1:31!!! OMGG THOSE ARE MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE!! whenever i go for 'tea'
My fav dim sum - har gao, fried turnip cake, century egg porridge, and siew mai. Salted egg buns too
Thanks for this guide, very useful and yummy!
Thanks for such magnificent articulation in transitions of the languages.

I know almost all of these because of my boyfriend and his family. The steamed sticky rice is my favorite. I was actually afraid to eat the chicken feet because I don't like trying new things but it's really good
LOLL "aint no time for that" XD you're awesome carmen!! :D
Now you can be a dim sum critic! lol
I'm sooooooo hungry now!!!!! Great vid! Maybe do a video on different teas and their tastes?
So informative!!! awesome video. :)
Watched this before going to dim sum for the first time in years! The lau saa bau were amaaazing.
I could listen to you talk about dim sum all day! Come to NY and eat dim sum with me at a very famous restaurant.
this was fantastic!! :)
you left out the fried taro its so good!!
The Brits say "Wooster-sher sauce." And Thank You for the Chinese characters with the English - very helpful. Your food descriptions are also spot on. Very good video!
No we do not say it wrong, why would we?
***** No, the sauce is pronounced differently.
***** Lol no, as a brit I can confirm it is wos-ter sauce
***** I never said otherwise, I just said it is pronounced wuss-ter sauce.
Well from now on I'mma call it wor-cester-shire sauce. it's way easier
We have a video on that already. Look up History Behind Dragon Boat Festival on our channel.
ha gau is life!!!
FireRabbit ikr
Agreed
Chicken feet is life
Thanks for the explanation
Wow, I am really impressed by your extensive knowledge! Maybe I'll give Dim Sum another try. :)
the tofu skin roll with shrimp is the best - YUM!!
try editing the video lol! Was sooooo hungry while doing that....
Actually many places don't use real shark fin, they just use vermicelli flavored as shark fin.
You are so proffesional.....u have good info.
Thank you!!! Now I know what the dish I love so much is called. I love rice rolls!!!
This is the ONLY dim sum guide you will ever need!
Fung zaau and zin doei are probably my favorites. Who doesn't love some zin doei😍😍
Yay~~ 兩件一盅" for a late breakfast is the best!
My favourites are 燒賣, 鳳爪, 豉汁排骨,芋頭糕 & 炸兩。And I always order 菊潽, too.
very good guide!
Its now 11:19pm and I'm watching this. You make me feel hungry.
That's good too!
Man that looks good. And you look even better
I'm hungry now!! Thank you loved the video 3
Why is she not on this channel anymore? I love her!
super helpful
I had the pleasure of eating almost an entire box of egg tarts and two pork buns in San Fran's Chinatown. Best. thing. EVER. I could live off this food.
Hi I'm a new subscriber, i love your videos
So tempting , yummy.
This is great! I'm totally following you on Instagram!
Very Good Video, thanks for sharing
Our fav is the BBQ pork buns, we used to go downtown NYC and pick up boxes and freeze them for later. YUM! haven't had some in quite a while...time to get my cook books out. lol. TFS
I miss going to yum cha so much during this lockdown!
I love these two jajaja
Very good guide! Loved it? Thanks
well you guys are really good, keep it up! Also could you PLEASE do a guide to noodles....since i love noodles and I want to discover MORE. Thanks
best video on all of TH-cam
haha just had to cross reference with your mom :P Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! It's hard to explain some of the things, I actually had to consult some family members to understand the right terms etc.
My favorite are the durian pastries! The ones that look like mini croissants but have a durian filling in them :)
I would love if you would start writing the tones, since I only started learning Chinese it would help me sooo much!! :) btw I love your humor!!
Wow you sound so professional!
Growing up my Mom's college friend our "Aunt Annie" used to take us to NYC for dim sum every now and then, afterwards we'd explore china town's shops, etc. We used to get duck feet, now you can't get it anymore only chicken feet. I always liked it and I was a white kid who lived in NJ suburbs. I was so lucky as a kid that my parents knew a lot of people who had different backgrounds, Indian, Amish, Chinese, etc, because I got to experience a lot of great food and customs. I hate that a lot of people I know aren't really willing to try different foods, they are really missing something!
They are all really good
Sometime I call it ' Whats its here " sauce ! Ketjap Manis is a nice sweet salty version of Worcerstershire ! Great session!!
Really nice
The worse thing in some dim sum dishes is that they pump up the filling content with pork fat. So if you put a shrimp dumpling ro something with seafood or pork in your mouth you get a really bad pork fat smell/taste. Some places uses a lot of MSG that makes you tired and thirsty and maybe a headache.
This video makes me feel hungry ! Haha
Your 荷葉飯 sounds like lo mai gai lol. Where are you from?
lol thanks!
Well done Carmen! =)
I'm really hungry now... Thanks for the helpful tips! :)
I was blown away too when I tried it for the first time. And I had it in Asia so it was mind blown x 10000
I should've clarified that in the video. They don't really use sharkfin anymore, it's more like vermicelli with shark fin 'taste'.
it's so warm to hear u speak Cantonese :)
Great work Carmen - you covered pretty much all my favorites (except Ngau Jai Gwat and Ma Lai Go / Ma Lai Gun, which we always get for my daughter if they have it). My wife is able to taste what kind of cooking oil / fat they use and if they use pig fat then she'll never go back to that place.
it is so interesting and informative to find out that those steam buns and dumplings have similar equivalents all over the world(differences are in fillings, flour used, and looks).
In Poland where I am from there are steam buns(love them, will have to try Dim Sum restaurant when I will find a good one, good luck with that ) but they are not white(probably because no rice four is used) and I never ate them with filing.
It is either many people got the same idea, or the idea drifted, like paper.
Sounds like my fav Dim Sum place here in Seattle passes the test! They also do sticky rice with pork.
Mmmm BBQ pork buns...
Yeah, Harbor City in Chinatown does a great job. i love it
+Phil Bolton Where do you go? I go to a low key one, Duk Li Dim Sum
+Ryan Chu I go to a place called The Purple Dot here in Seattles Chinatown.
Phil Bolton purple dot is literally the block next to duk li!
+Ryan Chu no, purple dot is next to hk bistro, duk li is next to honey court parking lot at corner
