This must be one of the best magic routines ever. The magic tricks are, in themselves, nothing special - but taken with the perfectly realised plot and story they add to the sense of wonder. Tina Lenert herself is so polished, so in control; not a movement wasted and everything is done with perfect timing. It's the details that make it for me: the coordination of the handling of the transistor radio with the taped soundtrack at the beginning; the glimpse of her "hand" at 2:15 ; the instant dress change between the blackout and the lights coming back up (so un-necessary, but such a confident statement of, "Damn - I'm good!"). Couple all this with the gradual physical and facial changes that Tina achieves, from arthritic, downtrodden scrub-woman to ecstatic, bright-eyed young woman on the verge of adventure - well, it knocks Cinderella into a cocked/opera hat. Deeply satisfying perfection!
