    I think the Doctor is different now, his openness facilitated the quickness of this, and I found this romance (this wasn't a full relationship) far more convincing to me than say Astrid or Lady Christina both of whom he also kisses

    Your analysis of the Doctor/Rogue’s relationship is pretty much how I feel, like in regards to 10 and The girl in the fireplace whilst it was an early episode for him to show a fast attachment it also made sense based on the context of the story but also the first time I watched it I would’ve been too young to care so now whenever I rewatch it I’ve already got a full sense of what the 10th doctors like so it’s easier to accept

    I've cut and pasted this on a coupel of other reactors, so apologies to those who have seen it before, but this is the last time!
    I've had the feeling for a while that RTD is essentially repeating his first season with Christopher Ecclestone, though with Slitheen 2 parter skipped and one change in order.
    1. Domestic drama focusing on companion (Rose/Ruby Road)
    2. Camp space adventure (End of the World/Space Babies)
    3. Historical with dimension-hopping villain and famous side character (Unquiet Dead/Devil's Chord)
    4. Trapped in one location, companion fake-out death (Dalek/Boom)
    5. Doctor/Companion action leads to mess-up of time (Father's Day/73 Yards)
    6. Comment on modern media/communication (The Long Game/Dot and Bubble)
    7. Historical with 'rogue'ish character (Empty Child-Doctor Dances/Rogue)
    And we're heading to a two part finale portentially wrapping up hints about Bad Wolf....I mean Ruby....Susan Twist....Mrs Flood.....whatever...
    Oh, and the Doctor only falls in love with people whose name begins with 'R'.
    Rose, Reinette, River, Rogue...
    Hhhhmmm......Russell.....

      I know we're gonna rewatch Series 1 soon but can I just say now it's better than this season? Not that this season is bad. Far from it. But something about Series 1 works better. Might be the higher episode count to breath and have The Doctor more often (though I understand Gatwa was busy).

    You’re not the only one who felt the Rogue romance was a tad off. Lovely bloke and all, sparkling dialogue, it was just a bit quick and full-on. The Doctor is normally more… well… more like an old dude with a past and regrets; careful, questioning, slow. Here he was more like a horny teen chasing a bit of booty behind the bike sheds. It was odd.

  • @joshuajoshua2732

    Susan Twist was technically in the episode she was the old woman in the painting.
    Yes that was Richard E. Grant as the Shalka Doctor RTD confirmed this on the after show "Doctor Who: Unleashed" so apparently he's now been made canon.
    It was a good episode but i didn't like the romance between the Doctor and Rogue because he was always considered an a-sexual alien Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee have stated this in past interviews yes he's had a family in the past but no one thought too deep about and it was taken place off-screen i also think they sexualise and humanise the Doctor far, far too much and i like do like Ncuti he's got potential but he really needs to stop crying every episode it's starting to get abit overboard.
    You say your glad the monsters have a normal voice that was one of my issues with them i thought they sounded too normal and not alien enough and i thought the make-up was abit cheap and lazy.

    To me this episode felt just… “eh”. The villains are okay, expect for make up which is very good. But the romance part… Why would anyone try to write a love story for the Doctor in one episode is a mystery to me. If Rouge was like Jack Harkness (which he almost basically is already) and stayed for a few episodes, I could see it. But introducing a character in one episode, make them a love interest and then killing them feels just… way too rushed.

    • @VerityShush
      @VerityShush หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Killing? He's not dead, they're pretty clearly setting him up to recur

      I'm not overly fond of it myself, I've just been on high alert with bad faith sods pretending the Doctor's NEVER had a romantic arc before because they don't wanna admit the real reason they're annoyed by Rogue, so I've sorta been checking all bases that the criticisms I do see are genuine, ya know?

    • @maximisationisreal439
      @maximisationisreal439 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@VerityShush yeah… I think since I started writing myself, I have become very harsh to films and series. I prefer slow paced scripts compared to most series nowadays. It feels like people became impatient to see the pay off. Whereas I would much prefer to stretch the build up towards that pay off for several chapters.

    Make the Doctor gay if you must but don't turn him into Captain Kirk. The Doctor loves one person chiefly - himself.

  • @Joey15811
    @Joey15811 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The doctor should not be lusting after anyone. Hated the episode as a result.
    I hate how this episode has divided the fanbase into either: You Love This or your are homophobic.
    I’m gay and burnt out with Russell shoving lgbt into every episode since his return. Like what happened to the balance he had in 2005-10 where it was good stories first. Overkill is just gonna lead to people turning off. Balance is much better.
    And Romance should be left to companions. Swap the doctor for Jack her…be much better
    And o cba to argue with Rose, River, Cameca, Reinette, Jack, Queen Liz, Rory, Astrid mentioners. Half of them kissed him. River is a complicated relationship as it is. Cameca and Liz engagement accidentally. I loathed Rose.

    • @ftumschk
      @ftumschk หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, and the comparison being made with Cameca is quite desperate. I fondly remember a Target book of the 1970s (The Making Of Doctor Who), which briefly summarised every story until then. Now, the summary of _The Aztecs_ said something like "the Doctor *flirts mildly* with Cameca", but what we saw in Rogue wasn't "mild flirting" by a long chalk... the Doctor was like a horny adolescent, practically getting the hots from the get-go, and inviting Rogue to elope with him. This felt so out of character - and out of place - to me, and really pulled me out of the story, which I was already struggling to enjoy anyway.
