- Carb installation on a 1984 GL1200 Goldwing Aspencade. This is the 3rd of 3 video's I done about the carbs. The first was the removal from the bike , the second was the stripping and cleaning and this one is the reinstalling onto the bike.
Zero laptop connections required, no new bios downloaded and updated, no failure reports deleted, no softwares updated - 'the intention of a combustion engine is to burn fuel to make my vehicles move' - really a great job, well done! All three episodes a pleasure to watch, my compliments - thank you very much sir!
Thanks again for the videos. I just bought one for $1000 and it's sat for a few years or more. The guy is gonna deliver it for me tomorrow and I can't wait to start working on it to get it running.
How did rebuilding your carburators go?

Thanks for the video, even though it’s been up for a few years now just figured I’d say I appreciate it and hope that I can figure out how to do it myself, I’m 18 and just got my grandpas 86 aspencade and I have a leaky carb thinking due to a stuck float.
I just got my Grampas 85 aspencade and am doing this soon. How’d it go for you?
84 aspencade. I also think I'm leaking fuel due to stuck float. Let me know if that was really the issue and what ended up fixing it!
@@Kwansudru yes it was was able to push air and dislodge the stuck float
Interesting did you just blow the air in the fuel supply lines?
Great john, I’m gonna try to clean my carbs cause one of the four cylinders isn’t working and I think it’s a fuel problem. Your videos are very helpfull and I now dare to take it on. I let you know the result. Grtz Robbie
The conclusion of the trilogy. Very informative, thanks. Now I just need to go out and do mine. I'm thinking one of the float valve screens is blocked, it'll start and idle on four cylinders, and even rev well, but once I start actually heading out it drops a cylinder and doesn't get it back until it idles for a while.
Thank you. I am now in the middle of doing 1984 Goldwing Standard (Aug 3 2018). I never thought I would get this into taking my bike apart, but you seemed pretty confident. Now I am praying this will be the fix that will get it running again.
I picked up my first GL1200I last week and got it running after 12 years sitting following these videos!

The starter has a, I think centrifugal, clutch. Its free spinning because its gotten a little sticky with sludge build up. Colder temps make it worse. Look up doing a treatment of marvel mystery oil in your engine oil.
I plan on doing mine also along with new plugs and wires,and sync the carbs for top performance.
You're so lucky you didn't have to deal with those annoying air intake hoses the dangle down and getting the way of installing the carburetors

Hi John, great video, it really helps. I just got a 1200 asp and I'm in the middle of cleaning my carbs, and the vacuum hoses were half missing, can I ask;
the pipe you connected coming out on a bent brass fitting between 2 float bowls in your video- does this go to the electric control box near the steering head ?; mine was open and I thought it was an overflow?
I found a newish pipe going from this electric control box to the middle fitting of the decompression valve in the air box, and my brass port on number 4 manifold was blanked off.

bet you wish you had tiny Japanese hands for those tubes LOL Nice video very well explained. How does the bike run? Those little screens behind the float valves plugged up and now I will be doing my carbs as well. Cheers
Hello can you tell me how you removed the secondary air supply and how you plugged the intake holes and did the block off plate on the bottom of carb and any other thing I need to do thanks for your help.
Sounds like you need to sync the carbs.
There is a small hose coming off the left side rear intake tube, Do you have any idea what this connects to? When I pulled off the carb it came right off and I didn’t see from where.
Does your bike look like it has 2 excellerator pumps? if so,,, it might go on the one that is on the throttle linkage side (BACK ONE). Is the hose about 8 or 10 inches long?
Do not go over 35 pilots Even 38 is too ritch. It is a bad advice you will find on the net.. shim the needle is all the 1984-85 need ! Believe med i have been through it all with my 85... Now it is fast.
Can you explain what you mean by "shim the needle"? Getting an "85 this week and I may need to clean the carbs.
My starter does the same thing do you think the starter needs a rebuild or just a clean up ?
its the thick grease they put in starters if really cold out may have to put a heater or heat gun on starter for a minute best to take out starter and get grease out put in lighter viscosity grease
