They just don't make games like they used to. Being a kid in the mid to late eighties and then playing through the nineties, arcade was my life. Arcades were the a big thing back in the day. Exciting times
This blows my brain into 1000 pieces as a 40+ person. I wish it were possible to convey the sensation of violently immediate rediscovery to a millenial (or younger), but It's possible that nothing created new will remain so well obscured ever again. Remember, 30-somethings-and-younger . . . you had to pay 25 cents in 1985 for just one game of any of this shit. It got expensive fast. You had to cut grass and save up just to play video games for 30 minutes the next Friday night at the arcade.
One day when the younger generation hopefully reads and learns alot...Wikipedia/google hopefully be4 the government rips it all away like rumor of TH-cam ....Maybe one day they will realize how lucky they are...If we as parents stop spoiling them so bad....because in the real world/jobs DONT CARE!!!
This video brings back fond memories. I can still remember going to the arcades in Garden Grove, Ca. The arcades were my second home. It's too bad most of them are gone. Kids today would rather play with their iphones. Such a shame.
Glad to see Final Fight in there. Seeing Afterburner, Indiana Jones, Outrun and Cruisin' World brought me back to being a kid.. Things I forgot about like Virtua Fighter, 720*, Area 51.. Would have like to have seen Smash TV on there. I recently scored over 100,000 pts. on Qbert Arcade recently, reaching level 5 stage 2!
I missed the early arcade games so much I decided to become an Indie game dev to bring hard core arcade games to 2018 and beyond. I still have fond memories of clocking Asteroids machines and basically making 10 pence last over an hour. Much to the annoyance of those waiting their turn hehe. I spent a small fortune getting that good though.
Great list. street Fighter 11 was simply the most playable, and most influential game maybe of all time..and ushered in last golden age of arcade games..although I love the 80s games also..
That's SFII Champions Edition Hyper Fighting, but whatever. Good list. Sort of figured I'd see Rampage, Defender, and Altered Beast on here, but the games at the top of the list are definitely legendary. Well done trip down nostalgia lane.
Sorry to be the old man yelling at a cloud here - but Pac-Man should have been #1, if only because it is one of the most enduring games of all time. And it was responsible for ushering in new games that appealed to everyone (not just space shooters that dominated the late 70's.) Pac-Man was practically the reason arcades had a "golden age" and there were cabinets "everywhere" in the early 80's. (And I do mean EVERYWHERE - department stores, 7-11's, laundromats.) How many arcade games can you name that had a hit song written about it? A lot of great games on this list - but the excitement of the early 80's arcade was hard to top. (I will begrudgingly say that SFII should be number two as it did give the game rooms a nice boost in the early 90's for a time.) That being said - I did discover quite a few hidden gems scrubbing through the list here. So thank you for turning me onto to games I had missed. Cheers!
As a 40+ year old American I never knew someone could put all those side-scrolling beat'em up's above Robotron and Frogger. REALLY? LOL. However, I will concede that SF2 took in a ton of money.
Maybe you can help me name an old arcade. It was like Point Blank but in Old West flavour. One thing I expecially remember: The minigame where you had to protect four dancing girls in the saloon from being kidnapped by shooting at the bandits who approaches them from every direction. Plus, if you shot at the dancers you make their blouse and then their gown disappear, leaving them in bra and panties. I once got a special bonus by protecting and stripping them all at the same time.
+AtlasRedux i agree and after that in fighting game there are only two good rivals street fighters and kof and are and will be always the best... ah and street fighters 3 3rs strike is the best sf and kof 98 is the best kof game
Way too many Street Fighter type games, missing some great games, a few I can think of Bubble Bobble, Rygar, Black Tiger, Pengo, Bosconian, Omega Race, 1942, Bomb Jack to name a few, also I never understand why Pong is on any greatest games list, I mean I understand it's importance but it's one of the most boring video games of all time.
Yup this list sucks. Of course any list is going to have its detractors, but I totally agree. Where's Pole Position, Hard Driving, Bagman, Slap Fight, Tempest, Defender, Bump n Jump, Rampage?
I remember waiting all week to go to the leisure centre so I could do Karate lessons but the real thrill I desired was to play Double Dragon with 20p. Damm I could complete the whole game with that 20p and believe me thats quite hard. I had to make that one go count.
Dang you can tell some companies had success with one template and basically ran with it. Especially Sega. All their games on this list are pretty much the same game reskinned about ten times.
Dr. Awkward It revolutionized the video game industry, Pong and Computer Space are the progenitors to be sure, but without Space Invaders, two of the worlds biggest designers and producers would never have developed an interest in video games.
honourable mentions not shown, Pacman JR and his rival game donkey kong 3, mechanized attack and ultimate mortal kombat, plus the quarter munching NBA showtime. good times folks, good times.
EmpireArcadia wtf you talking about ' street fighter 2 is the best arcade game of all time! That game was so big in 91 it started the whole fighting game craze.
I was quite surprised to see the first Street Fighter on this list at all. After hearing everywhere that it's a crappy game, I figured that we'd see EVERY other game in the series later in the video, though I'm sure we didn't...
What!!! Street Fighters 2 in first place... Nooo... Mortal Kombat 2 should be in that place followed by Killer Instinct in 2nd place and Street fighters2 in 3rd.
Year 1992 a game I played most. A Commando Type hero kills army Man and collect key and after finishing round he purchase powers, Laser Gun, Shot-gun etc with keys.. But Unfortunately I forgot the Name of that game, Somebody help me to find that game... please
I seriously disagree with the order on some of these, how Narc is #100 is beyond me, they missed rolling thunder and knights of the round too... Nice to see all that old school though, most games that come out these days are garbage...
I was glad to see ninja turtles on this list, that had to be one of the most money eating games made, but worth every cent. don't know why superman is not on this list as that was another great arcade game.
Space Invaders ruled the world at one point. It inspired so many to mod and create. And it's 43. This list is a joke. The #1 should be Donkey Kong. it was our first glimpse at what was to come with Nintendo. Had create sounds that filled the rooms. Pac Man could be 1 also. Graphics don't make a game great.
No. Too many cheesy crappy fighting games. Too many crappy scrolling platform/shooters. Distinct lack of driving games. Plus, where's the likes of Tiger Heli, Twin Cobra, Rygar, Time Pilot, R-Type, Slapfight, Bubble Bobble, Defender, Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move to name just a few. A lot of the games he has in his Top 20 I wouldn't even allow in the top 100.
Can anyone help me find the name of an old driving game, had similar car graphics to rally x (probably developed from the same company) but was played vertically and you could jump on top of other cars and jump over ravines, kind of similar to led storm but older
Correction. The first coin-operated video game was "Galaxy Game" (1971) installed at Stanford University. It cost a dime for one play and a quarter for three. "Computer Space" (1971) was the first mass-produced coin-operated video game and "Pong" (1972) was the first which was commercially successful.
Estoy buscando un juego de Taito creo que es, trata de un como príncipe que tiene que rescatar a una princesa y el primer nivel es en un bosque como de noche y avienta bolas de fuego, alguien que sepa cómo se llama que me pueda ayudar.
They just don't make games like they used to. Being a kid in the mid to late eighties and then playing through the nineties, arcade was my life.
Arcades were the a big thing back in the day. Exciting times
an easy place to get girls too ,if you were good :) God I miss those days!!!
Double Dragon should be in the top 5 that game defined the arcade game culture back then.
defined? a culture that was around already for 10+ years? LOL
Rainbow Island, Tumblepop, Capitan commando, I miss a lot of game in there.
This blows my brain into 1000 pieces as a 40+ person. I wish it were possible to convey the sensation of violently immediate rediscovery to a millenial (or younger), but It's possible that nothing created new will remain so well obscured ever again. My love - Chase H.Q. "Let's go Mr Driver!"
Just played it today. I love the Crockett and Tubbs style cops.
I miss the days of arcade games
Yes the 80s were the best times for arcade games
I dont... too expensive
They were a quarter a game
@Matthew Hollis now that would be something
@@Ricardo-ns5hl at least the games were better and more fun to play
I really, really liked Renegade for some reason but most people didn't, especially once Double Dragon came out.
vigilante and final fight :)
This video brings back fond memories. I can still remember going to the arcades in Garden Grove, Ca. The arcades were my second home. It's too bad most of them are gone. Kids today would rather play with their iphones. Such a shame.
I used to love shooting games like 1942. Played for hours with a coin. Just as with the new sealand story and the 3 wonders.
Asteroids. For such a simple game, it was such a skill game. Im glad you put it in your list
I missed the early arcade games so much I decided to become an Indie game dev to bring hard core arcade games to 2018 and beyond. I still have fond memories of clocking Asteroids machines and basically making 10 pence last over an hour. Much to the annoyance of those waiting their turn hehe. man oh man just looking at this takes me back to the 80s one of the games that i played was rastan now that game was bad ass for me 80s forever
This seems to be a top 100 hundred games that can be found, edited put together. Anyway, enjoyed watching...thank you!!
Man, serious nostalgia overload from when I was a kid :)
Nice video..
please put the list in description
STRIDER awesome: unique hack and scroll, cool weird bosses. NOT a huge Tekken fan, but SO MANY fight games

The punisher was an awesome game. I remember playing it on the SEGA Genesis.
Great video, was Gauntlet in there? I might have missed it but if not i'm furious ;)

Great list. Mortal Kombat will always be my #1. Anyway, you forgot to mention RoboCop 2 and Alien 3
Great list. street Fighter 11 was simply the most playable, and most influential game maybe of all time..and ushered in last golden age of arcade games..although I love the 80s games also..
Did I miss Defender & Tempest in the list somewhere? Star Castle, BombJack, Kangaroo, 1942/3, Gorf, Xenious. Guess this list could go on forever
That's SFII Champions Edition Hyper Fighting, but whatever. Good list. Sort of figured I'd see Rampage, Defender, and Altered Beast on here, but the games at the top of the list are definitely legendary. Well done trip down nostalgia lane.
Robotron is was freakin awesome!
I knew street fighter 2 was going be number one , best arcade game ever!
Sorry to be the old man yelling at a cloud here - but Pac-Man should have been #1, if only because it is one of the most enduring games of all time. Amazing video compilation, totally inaccurate placement list.
As a 40+ year old American I never knew someone could put all those side-scrolling beat'em up's above Robotron and Frogger. REALLY? LOL. However, I will concede that SF2 took in a ton of money.
I don't think they're in Ranked order, just 100 great games... Narc would not be #100 if it was in order :) This video takes me back
I wish I hadn't done so many drugs as a kid, then I could say "some of these bring back good memories"
+Bruce DaCynic ha ha. vaguely remember some flashing lights on screens and it was fun, fuck ecstasy and LSD
hahahahahahahahahaha haaaaaaaaaaw!!
Maybe you can help me name an old arcade. It was like Point Blank but in Old West flavour. Best Times Ever. I have 40 year now. I can die Happy.
:)
wow those were the good days
Man, Daytona USA Was My jam
SF2 was N1 before MK was existent. But once MK was out, it became N1 and SF2 became N2.
+AtlasRedux i agree and after that in fighting game there are only two good rivals street fighters and kof and are and will be always the best...
ah and street fighters 3 3rs strike is the best sf and kof 98 is the best kof game

Robotron needs to be in the top 10.
Dang you can tell some companies had success with one template and basically ran with it. Especially Sega. All their games on this list are pretty much the same game reskinned about ten times.
Instead of having an arcade machine, I would play on the pc
My Favorite Games Of The 1990's!
Space Invaders should be #1. Without that game none of the other games exist.
+Dr. Awkward For true !
Bruce DaCynic Somebody might try to use my logic against me & argue it's Computer Space or Pong, but Space Invaders truly started the revolution.
Dr. Awkward It revolutionized the video game industry, Pong and Computer Space are the progenitors to be sure, but without Space Invaders, two of the worlds biggest designers and producers would never have developed an interest in video games.
Asteroids
Muchas gracias por este vídeo me trajo muchas nostalgias de buenos tiempos!

no worries for the children of today, there is mame to explorer tons of old arcade games
honourable mentions not shown, Pacman JR and his rival game donkey kong 3, mechanized attack and ultimate mortal kombat, plus the quarter munching NBA showtime. good times folks, good times.

Street Fighter 2 top 100 absolutely.... #1 absolutely not. It isn't even the #1 played arcade game of all time.
EmpireArcadia wtf you talking about ' street fighter 2 is the best arcade game of all time! That game was so big in 91 it started the whole fighting game craze.

This guy likes twitch shooters and fighters and put the rest he did up to hide the fact that he basically only likes two kinds of games.
A game where you rush a 10 years old boy to hospital, following a horrible car accident? Was this ever released? Such bad taste
No CarnEvil!!??

What!!! Street Fighters 2 in first place... Nooo... Mortal Kombat 2 should be in that place followed by Killer Instinct in 2nd place and Street fighters2 in 3rd.
I love mk but it's shallow compared to SF.
should make a list down in description
chillers wtf...
heres franchise repetition. can't make a top list repeating franchise

WHAT ABOUT JOUST
Pong was the first game ever the pong 2 was second game
No it was not.
Nope. Pong wasn't the first one.
"Computer Space" (1971) was the first coin-operated video game. But "Pong" (1972) was the first commercially successful.
Correction. The first coin-operated video game was "Galaxy Game" (1971) installed at Stanford University. It cost a dime for one play and a quarter for three. "Computer Space" (1971) was the first mass-produced coin-operated video game and "Pong" (1972) was the first which was commercially successful.
Its nice that you guys go to arcade so... coins. But. its was about the first game ever.

really??? I find it hard to believe, but it's possible...
That game was ridiculous hard
8wealthyone8 NARC
Street fighter (1) shouldn't be on this list. Terrible controls and game play. Only thing good about it was the sequel.
This list is embarrassing. Fighting games like street fighter suck and should not be placed higher than any 80s game
