I've watched this show a thousand times and somehow never even thought to make a connection between all the plastic wrap in Leo's home and Laura being wrapped in plastic

My #1 theory most of the time, inspired by some fan theories our college newspaper ran, was that LAURA did it. The dead girl found was Madeleine Ferguson, and Laura killed her to get out of trouble, and assumed her identity. The #2 one was that Laura was bad and the Bookhouse Boys killed her as part of a ritual to keep the town so good, which ties into Harry saying the evil is the price they pay for the good things, and Bobby saying: "You did! We all did!" LOVE your Twin Peaks content and always ready for more!

I loveeee those theories!! The first one is what happens in the Pretty Little Liars books with Allison! So cool!

@@camcordercamerin Yeah, and something like that in great films like *SPOILERS* Vertigo, Angel Heart, and Body Heat *SPOILERS*, but in very different ways.

It is very interesting hearing about these very first internet theories that have jogged some of my own random thoughts. First, in light of the importance of the logging industry in Twin Peaks, plus the central role of The Log Lady herself, the act of "logging in" to the internet back then has added significance. Next, Bobby gives an important speech at Laura's funeral, where he blames the entire town for Laura's murder -- not literally, but because the town ignored Laura's problems and even contributed to them. Finally, there is a parallel between the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer and who tried to kill the show of Twin Peaks. In my opinion, this is answered well by the most compelling modern Twin Peaks theorist, a TH-camr named Twin Perfect. He (and others) point out that David Lynch specifically did not want a killer to be identified because it would kill off the appeal of the show, as well as conform to 1950s and 1960s TV dogma about wrapping up mysteries neatly so as to not leave the audience hanging. Lynch was correct, as evidenced by the sharp , temporary decline in the show's quality after the killer's identity has been revealed. Going even further, the commercialization and homogenization of TV itself is what directly killed the show. Putting it another way, the demands of the audience for closure killed the show. It is the fun and challenge for fans of following the clues, of watercooler discussions, and of posting internet theories that die once closure is obtained. Okay, I am stepping off my soapbox.

I'm thankful at least that the reveal of the killer itself was incredibly well done (and obviously how it was elaborated on in Fire Walk With Me) but really as seen in everything following the reveal besides the last episode itself, it did kill the show (as we knew it at least - I still kind of like the campy nonsense of season 2).

Yes, less than stellar Twin Peaks still beats 90% of other shows! There is also an argument to be made that Twin Peaks is self-aware -- it knows that it is a TV show! In this light, the show needs a murder victim to create a mystery. Thus, the show itself killed Laura Palmer! @@camcordercamerin

Of course they should have waited until the end of the series to reveal the killer (or preferably leave the mystery unsolved), but they could have kept things going with another murder in the same style, showing that the true murderer wasn't caught. It also didn't help the show that David Lynch kind of left for a while to make a movie and didn't come back until the end of the season. But I totally would have watched a Northern Exposure type show set in Twin Peaks, which is kind of what it became.

Yea the show definitely suffered without him around! It really wasn't until the last few episodes that he became involved again right? @@twiedenfeld

I agree I have now seen Twin Peaks all the seasons and movies 7 -10 times over and I never made the connection of the construction wrap plastic at the house and around Laura's body. I love it. Now when Twin Peaks first came out I only saw bits and pieces of it. I was in middle school then and it had me terrified. I believe the first time I ever watched it all the way through was when the dvd's came out around (2000) or when it was played on I believe the Lifetime channel had it on. I remember I only really ever had two major suspects Donna and Mr. Ben Horne. Great job Camerin

    1. You're right though, Spice is likely in reference to the film, which David Lynch had directed a few years prior.
    2. The theory about it not being anyone could have meant that an accident happened (or she unaliked herself) and someone else tried to cover it up for some reason.
