The Portuguese never conquered great nations. They had the naval power, not ground forces. Apart from African, and Brazilian tribes, they couldn't conquer powerful countries. In fact, The Portuguese themselves were conquered by Spain in 1580. Except for the Battle of Mulleriyawa, all the other battles happened when the kings of Spain were ruling the Portuguese. So it's not the Portuguese empire, but rather the Iberian union.

Realising this, Spanish kings urged and ordered the Portuguese to take full control of the country, surrendering the Kingdom of Kandy and providing more resources to do so. That's why within the 14 years of Spanish kings' rule, Jaffna (as a vassal), Sithawaka all fell to them.

They lost some parts of Asia, but claimed more territories in Africa and Brazil after the union. Never conquered great nations? what about ottoman empire? Even the Habsburgs, Poland-Lithuania and many crusades were unable to take upper hand over the Turks. But Portuguese were able to defeat Ottoman + Indian troops in India.

It is correct. But kings of Spain didn't annex Portugal into Spain. They reigned over as kings of both Spain and Portugal.
