So what I get from this lesson: less air and firm vocal support are the keys. Use the chest dominant blended voice and mind the shape of the emboucher.
THANK YOU VICTORIA!!!! I’ve been training in voice for 10 years, and these tips cleared up so many gaps in my understanding of my own belt!!! My mind is blown thank you!!!!!!!!!!
I love your videos so much; I'm preparing for my solo audition and your videos have helped me so much! Your energy gets me so excited about singing! I've learned so much and you gave me so much confidence for my solo audition!
Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow!!!!!!!! I can't believe the difference I hear in my voice. The bottom feels full, open, and stable. That hey taxi just brought everything together. Like literally after doing it once. I am a beginner and I struggle with my chest voice. I have been doing exercises to strengthen it. Previously, when I sang hey or ah, it was phlegmy and screechy. This exercise cleaned everything up. Thank you. My voice has been transformed in 5 minutes!!!!!!
I love everyone of your videos! They are so helpful and a great supplement to my normal vocal lessons. Everyday I find some way to improve my voice and your videos really go indepth in a simple way that I can visualize and understand.
Victoria, You are so victorious! I don't understand how this just has 84 comments, but the 440K subscribers makes absolute sense because you are AWESOME! Much love from CA!

My favorite online coach!! Do you think you could talk about being exact on pitch? Not being tone but many singers have trouble being consistently 100% accurate, and it’s not always obvious to the singer when they are just slightly pitchy. Cheers!
Yes, I plan to make another on this topic. Most pitchy singers are flat, sometimes just slightly. I discuss that here: Fix Flat Singing Fast! - QUICK FIXES AND SOLUTIONS th-cam.com/video/Eas8C32SJZY/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for making this video! I've been trying to learn to belt healthily for a while. Your videos are all so helpful that even though I can't tell if I'm able to belt yet, I believe that after a bit of time I'll improve. Thank you so much for making these videos!

Hi Victoria. I Keep watching and bringing to practice your videos. As always you are amazing teacher and very talented singer.!Thank you for sharing your wisdom ❤️
Just fabulous! I'm working on some challenging Rock tunes lately Victoria. I'm telling you NY straight out. These particular songs are tough. Each month I get a little closer to nailing them. I enjoy going that extra mile. I'm the type that has to challenge myself...lol!!!
Welcome! I have never been to Legazpi City. I have been to Manila many times (taught there and have relatives there ), Cebu, Palawan & Pangasinan (relatives there too)! I hope to be back in the Phils in Jan post COVID re-opening.
What should belting feel like? Is it alright to have a slightly sore throat afterwards or is that a bad sign? Presumably if it's an athletic exercise, a bit of discomfort/tiredness is normal? PS: Very useful video, thank you!
While I cannot tell you what to feel and it is very hard to describe until you have done it, I can tell you what I feel and my students have said the same: firmness in the mid-section of the body (firm abs), firmness at the vocal folds (firm closure, but not squeeze), buzz in the front of the face. I have had students say they think "tough" or "demanding". Note: no, sore throat is definitely a sign that you have overdone it and may be squeezing and not supporting properly. Practice in short increments and remember, it is not straight shouting. Start with the speaking exercises and review my videos on mix (chest mix).
Great Video! You’ve helped me a lot over the past few months with my voice. One problem I keep having though is I tend to fall back into my throat when singing and can’t get the right feel and sound I want. Is there anything that can help with that?
I can't answer you exactly without seeing and hearing you, but it sounds like you are going into the squeeze. Watch this video: Throat Tension While Singing? BEST EXERCISE HERE! th-cam.com/video/Fy3nucC1GKU/w-d-xo.html I have other videos in my playlist on the Tight Throat, Jaw & Tongue.
Thank you mis Victoria I. Love your teaching I. Love to sing but I cannot get the higher pitch my throat become tired. May wrong way of singing I learn a lot
This is an incredibly interesting video. I have no interest in' belting it out' but found myself listening and taking notes. Nice to know these things! A question occurred to me. You are shaping your tone (maybe timbre too?) with the technique. When you sing in your own voice are you selecting and then shaping the sound as well? Sometimes one can imitate another voice pretty well and sort of sound like that singer (timbre not technique or style). When you sing in your own voice do you have a sound in mind you actively make or do you just support, articulate your vowels and get the distorting muscle tension out of the way and what comes out is your voice? I can try to sound like Jonas Kaufmann or Dennis Day but I should be looking for or selecting David Walsh. But who does that sound like? Do I have some (slight) timbre options? (singers voices used for illustrative purposes only; have greatest respect for both artists)
Ah, what a great question! You always come up with good ones. My answer to any singer is to find your OWN unique sound which is your natural way of singing; however, we can shape the vocal tract to create different tone qualities, depending on the desired sound. That is fun and takes technique.
Hi, I really like the way you explain things, thank you for all these exercises and tips they really help me!!! but... I have a problem, while I'm doing exercises I can belt higher notes easy and nicely, but when I'm singing a song in which the high notes are words that start with a consonant I just can't belt the notes (even the ones that are way below the ones that I reach on the exercises) :( So why can I belt high when practicing/vocalizing but not when I'm actually singing a song? How can I improve that?
This is very common! The good news is that you can sing these belty phrases on vowels! Consonants will always add more challenge. I will make a video on that soon. See my video: Vocal Exercises - APPLIED TO YOUR SONGS! TRANSFORM THEM! th-cam.com/video/G2asN02Xmrk/w-d-xo.html
some people say messaging your neck helps with singing do you agree? and also can I ask where should I start to improve my voice ? I'm an confused what should I do first.

Hello ma’am Victoria! Is it possible to belt in head mix?? I remembered an advice from a vocal coach that we must practice in using the head mix in belting 😅
Yes, it can sound edgy and urgent like a belt, yes, but not a true belt. However, when done correctly, it is a much healthier way to create a high belt sound rather than push the weight of the chest voice up there. In other words, it can sound belty with less vocal work! I am referring to pitches generally above a C5.
