Whitney saying “it’s so easy” after hitting a supported and resonant C#5 is so refreshing to hear

To be fair, he could easily have used her to sing every one of those notes. Whitney in her prime could belt like no other and what sets her apart from everyone else is that she sustained those belts from start to finish on pitch perfectly. There’s a reason why she’s The Voice.

I know it's probably easy for most of you to recognize all these divas, but as a non pop aficionado, I would be super thrilled if these clips each had a subtitle of who the person is singing, maybe also the song title and year if known.... I can't be the only one who doesn't recognize a non-blonde Celine Dion from 30 years ago, or some random member of a girl group, or a contestant on a talent show I've never heard of, but some of these artists I'd definitely go look up if I knew their names!

Can you please include Toni Braxton in your videos more? She has wonderful belts along with nice riffs and runs. Her tone is to die for and she has a very great lower register. When the D5 belt part came on , I was kinda expecting Toni tbh because that’s her money note lol. The way she can make her voice soft and then switch and make it be powerful is my favorite thing. I like singers who use volume control without really moving the mic around.

I think you should consider the fact that not everyone wants to do a chesty belt stylistically. So saying someone has a bad belt when they aren’t even trying to belt isn’t exactly fair. A lot of the examples here were people using different placements to get a particular sound and style not necessarily a show-stopping belt.

I personally feel that some of the ones that sound throatier/scratchier get hype because it sounds like an artistic choice, at least to me. With practise or on a good day the singers listed in the video will probably not have an issue with open belts. At the end of phrases sometimes I prefer to hear a little bit of texture in the voice, instead of a clear open sound all the time. I do it on purpose myself, but I guess one might call it a wrong artistic choice and healthy technique should prevail 😅 but I like how certain singers sound when they sound "throaty", and I find that imperfection sometimes adds more colour to the song. Also I think it would get a little boring if singers sounded perfect and clear all the time. That's what I think :)

Essentially like the ratio of luck to natural talent to hard work. It would be cool if you looked into popular reoccurrences in gifted singers' childhoods etc.

If we're going to compare belters, let's at least explain which types of belting the singers are using and which maneuvers they use in vocal techniques.
Because between Jessie J's and Christina Aguilera's belting, they are different, to access them we need to do a different maneuver.
We cannot exclude different sounds by saying that it was poorly executed.
Just because it's not the standard sound. Let's open our horizon to new sonic possibilities!!!
