Keep swimming against the tide, Stu…….this cupping left wrist and swinging around through impact is so key…thanks for the enlightment Your insight has provided…..
Hi Stu, I’ve been watching your videos and it’s starting to make sense. My understanding is maintaining a cupped left wrist through impact allows the left forearm to easily rotate through strike, which aligns the face of the club at impact. This is also facilitates the swinging action of the club. I’ve been working to implement this in my swing and I’m finding, to my amazement, straight flight, with no manipulation of wrist angles. I’m using a strong grip as you recommend. I’m going to keep at it. Leaving the ‘bow’ behind ……. thanks for all you do.
Hey Stu you have helped me immensely thirty years of trying to feel comfortable and powerful over the ball at the top of my backswing has all gone,, the Thera band left hand drill has given me the best top of the backswing condition as it has connected my upper left arm against chest throughout my swing. I can now smoke my irons and driver. Thanks again. John
Thank you so much for sharing your experience John, truly happy you have found a deeper joy in the game and improved performance. Long may it continue and hope you can share my channel with some golfing friends. Best wishes Stu.
I keep watching this over n over... just pure Aussie GOLD! I think i have your home country correct. You are my Coach now. I do not watch any others anymore. Again you told us that also. If your ever in Texas please let us know. Also tell us more about skillest and what that implies...ty Coach
Hey Gregory, I’m actually from Surrey in the UK 🇬🇧 - Skillest is a mobile coaching app. Allows me to connect with you; analyse your swing, coach you remotely on a really good app. Check it out. With a look. Best wishes Stu 😊
Great tuition, I have a fairly flat wrist at the top, but watching the 'Pros' bow the wrist makes us try to do it too, but I can never seem to get it right (pull hook - like you show). So, I can forget that now and concentrate on grip and take away! Thanks
Thank you for the clarification. I've always had a slight bend in my left wrist in the backswing (with the correct grip!). When I tried to change that, it just felt unnatural and one of the first balls with this grip manipulation flew straight to the right.
Thank you Mr.Cartwright for your no nonsense approach to the golf swing. This video about the wrists, the broom drill, how not to sway has helped me immensely. I never was a good ball striker and about 3 years ago I almost quit playing due to not even getting the ball airborne. I am even now striking better and more consistent than before and I am 70 years old. Question, why am I hitting low on the face of my driver(and not getting the ball airborne)any help would be appreciated.
It’s my pleasure Sir and great to hear you’re enjoying my content. I would head to one of my early videos on “Angle of Attack” and start from there to reduce your tendency to hit it low on the face and then watch my “you need this drill” video. Hope that helps!
😂 GOOD COACHING IS CORRECT! Really enjoy your teaching style. You really connect with ppl. Great attitude n passionate to call rubbish crap...just that. I've got some pracrice to groove your moves. And yes you answer EVERY comment!!! Love that. Such a good coach
Bless you Gregory, really appreciate the kind words of encouragement and feedback. Will keep doing my thing and hope to help more and more golfers as I go. 😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching Bless you too Stu! So Coach I have a question about practice. I am the guy who hits 40 to 60 yrs shots in my backyard here in Texas. I use regular golf balls for those shots. Really hard to get to the range for full shots. Is it wise to use whiffer balls or foam balls for full swings in yard? Would that be wise as far as feeling correct compression? I was hitting some 50 yrd shots this morning following my coaches instructions n felt quite a diff in compression n distance than my old inside bs swing. Heck 2 balls went over fence (my neighbor pretty cool). I so want to groove the full swing with much excitement. Just thought I'd ask my Coach!
Haha well… as a seasons player, I think foam balls will be fine, but definitely intersperse with the 50/60 yard pitch shots. Foam balls numb your impact feels, so I’d tread carefully and not over do it with just the foamers! Hope that helps and makes sense. Best wishes Stu
Stu, I have voraciously been consuming your content and using as much of your teaching as I can...to great effect with my swing so thank you! One question though, I see you promote the hack motion device- do you have a video where you utilize it? I was under the belief that the hack motion device promotes a bowed left wrist, granted I do not own one but was considering one a while back.
I did three videos with the hack motion device, I didn’t advocate a bowed left wrist but did use it with good insight. I will have to remember which three videos they were and get back to you. Best wishes Stu
I have long marveled at Fred Couples and his cupped lead wrist at the top. His downswing is, like most great players, a blur, but a very effective and powerful striker.
Another great vid , thanks. Thats 4 this week that have completely changed my approach to grip and downswing after ages of struggle. Funny thing tho..a few things you say ive tried before purely thru instinct but have seen remarks seemingly going against it so have not continued. The tip you gave on trail hand position I'm not 100pct on....when i tried it and it worked,i read somewhere that it was weak and bad, but am i right that youre basically saying that lead hand should be strong and trail hand is more towards weak or am i confused? Cheers
Hi Lee, you’re spot on… the issue you will have is mixing the info from more than one TH-cam. Channel with each other. One way ticket to confusion. Stick with one channel and give that info a chance for three months and then decide if it’s good or bad and then move on, or stay. Hope that helps.
Hi Stu, thanks again. I watched this following your forearm rotation video. I'm a little confused 🫤 as to hand path. Really like the feeling of the club rotating around the hands and pressing down but how does this fit with the handle going out to the ball in the downswing? I can feel the club rotating better if I pull the club handle down inside the ball???? Cheers
Great video stu, have been watching your videos for a long time and they have helped improve my game immensely. What advice would you give for someone who plays "cack handed" left hand low? Does the same advice on grip and pressure through the handle etc still apply, just swapped around?
Cack handed can work for chipping but to advise on the full swing, where would you like me to start? 🤔 😂😂 - if the game is improving Samuel, keep doing it my friend. Best wishes Stu
........just when you think it cant get any better. This little nugget has helped me release the club head soooo much better......also, is it my imagination or does this help with swallowing your angle of attack a little bit?.....thanks Stu ⛳🍺
Hi Stuart I’ve been watching a few of your videos (great stuff btw - loving the broom) but I struggle with ‘does the swing create the motion or does the motion start the swing’ egg or chicken? I play off 6 so a not bad player but I get caught switching between the 2 feels - thanks 🙏
Hi Stuart, thank you for sharing your technique. Can you clarify something? For a 7 iron swing, are you turning/twisting/scooping your left wrist slightly before impact or after impact? I tend to always fade the ball when I twist the wrist at impact. It feels like I am sliding the club under the ball which can be difficult to time perfectly. I want my draw back. Thanks.
Been down that bowed wrist rabbit hole a few years back and it ruined my strike. Fortunately, I listened to a good golfer friend of mine who told me to stop that nonsense, which has been confirmed my you, and my strike returned. Cheers.
@@GoodGolfCoaching I’ve had a little go in my net and theirs so much more compression instantly and also the strike seems to have moved more from the heel to the toe. Not sure if this is to be expected but it was a welcome positive All be in a small sample size.
when i focus on keeping the cup in the left wrist I tend to hit it heavy more often, any thoughts why that might be? Great content Stu keep fighting the "garbage"
On the backswing, I agree that gravity pulling down on the clubhead needs to be resisted. However, on the downswing to the ball, gravity has little to no effect on the clubhead, especially the closer you get to the ball as swing speed increases. The force that then tries to raise the handle in relation to the clubhead is the centrifugle force pulling the clubhead away from the axis of the swing, not gravity pulling down on the clubhead, or am I missing something?
For me, I struggled with getting the correct hinge of the club in takeaway and backswing for ages. It all fell into place from feeling the correct initiation and intention to start the swing. There seems to be a funny 'chicken and egg' relationship between rolling the club inside and poor pressure in the trail foot. It is subtle. When I roll (unintentionally) towards the outside of the trail foot it almost makes sense to roll the club inside in order to get it back to the ball later. Contrastingly, when you feel like you push the trail foot strongly down into the ground, hinging the club correctly almost feels like the only way you'd ever want to move, and rolling the club inside makes no sense. (If you're me!😉)
This is so funny yesterday I went to the range and I was trying to bow my wrists as hard as I could. Was wondering why my shots were going right. What’s even funnier is I can draw the ball without bowing my wrists already. I was just wanting better “compression”
this channel deserve way more views .

Both hands as per the “high tee drill” I recommend to watch.

Pursue a journey looking at your leg action, this will elevate your low point and allow you to push down harder - hope that makes sense.

All weak grippers

You can still create force on the handle with a bowed wrist.
