Took this lesson to the driving range yesterday and I had great results. I had solid strikes to the golf ball every time. I really like your instructions in this lesson. It's easy to understand and I can follow it pretty well. Thanks Stu!
This is the best golf swing instruction/ explanation I have ever heard. There's no need to watch/ listen to any other golf coach, ever. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
This is a consequential golf education video. Predictions: 1) Within 5 years, this video will have +500k views 2) Good Golf Couching videos will become the “Gold Standard” in golfer educational self improvement. For the entire series, well done and thank you; especially for the Grip series as you have significantly improved my game.
I watched the video this morning, practiced 15 minutes with the alignment stick, went to the range...Wow! Hitting my 50 degrees 120 yds, 10 yds increase, with crappy range balls, so straight. That swing path feels so natural. Thanks a lot.
Hi Mate, this is hard, after playing golf for over 30 years, the wrong way i might say, where was you in my 20s, just tried this technique and i was amazed at how the ball flight and the speed has improved my game. Took a few hundred balls to adjust but got there in the end, now need to focus on the release. Looking forward to more of your videos...
Hey buddy - thanks for stopping by and sharing your experiences, really appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions along the way and look forward to helping you play better golf!
Amazing! You're blowing my 40-year golfing mind with this concept. I took this to the range today and hit beauty after beauty of solid, well-flighted balls. The feel of full left side and club head release was awesome. Easy enough to do and easier on this 62 year old body! I like how you think so brilliantly about the swing. Glad I found you. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for the very kind words and I’m so happy my coaching content is helping you. Really appreciate your feedback and thank you for sharing. Best wishes Stu 😊
I was lucky enough to buy a GC Quad and I was surprised I had an outside in swing. I normally draw or hook the ball, more hooks lately. The more I tried to swing from the inside the worse I got. I saw your instruction and tried it. It sounds counterintuitive but it totally works. I feel like I'm swinging over the top with my arms but the club drops inside and I hit it flush. I also noticed when your arms get close and low to your left side, you end up with that great feeling side bend and more complete finish. Glad I found you!!
Love to hear this Mark, honestly, music to my ears. Need to stop this inside out, tuck arm nonsense. Glad you’ve enjoyed the changes, and thank you for sharing. Best wishes Stu 😊
When I first started doing this I was shanking everything. Once I slowed everything down it started to come together. I found I could get my hands high and in front of my right front pant's pocket, stop, then unwind while lowering and externally rotating the left hand and hit quality shots. It was easier for me to break it into these two components to get the move down. Then putting it together in a continuous motion wasn't as difficult.
Stu, this was a light bulb moment for me. Never really understood the pushing the handle out concept until now. Grabbed an iron and went outside and tried it and was amazed that the swing is actually a push of the handle out and down while you exit left. I used to be one of those guys who believed that you should swing out to “right field,” that really screwed up my swing, and it caused me to do exactly what you described: a handle swing that went from low to high with an open club face. So I hit slices and shanks. Once I stop that awful swing and started paying attention to ball flight laws, the science of the swing, and your YT channel, my swing greatly improved. Thanks. Cheers, my friend.
Great stuff! I was one of the golfers you describe moving the handle from low on the backswing to high on the follow through. Moving the handle from high on the backswing to low on the follow through is a very different feeling. With your help I find that when I get it right the feeling of the body moving around the golf ball meshes perfectly with the movement of the handle. It feels much more powerful and synchronized like the elements are working together rather than opposing one another.
You are not alone when it comes to “low to high” and when you fill in all the elements that complement this video, speed and accuracy will be yours for the rest of time. Keep working and any questions, please let me know. Best wishes Stu.
Stuart, this is pure genius and the best video of yours I have seen! Amazing and well explained and it has finally made sense to swing out, lower and externally rotate. I immediately went out and hit balls for 2 hours and the best shots I have hit in a long time - thank you !!
Thanks so much Peter - I try hard to constantly push the vision of what I’m sharing and I’m really glad this video did it for you Sir. Thank you also for sharing your experience. Much appreciate. Best wishes Stu 😊
Played my best round of 9 last night thanks to your TH-cam instruction. Between your essential grip guide and these swing movements I focus on, I’m hitting the ball more consistently than ever before. Cheers Stu, thank you!
Thank you so much h Kyle; your diligence to the grip will ultimately be your golden nugget to access good movement within my coaching. Keep the great work Kyle and long may it continue. Best wishes Stu 😊

Hey Stu was messing around with your Thera band drills from your video. Absolutely amazing as I understand how the handle moves in and under my left shoulder. Hitting the Bjesus out of the ball without any manipulation or thought. Thanks again 👍
John this is music to my ears my friend. People sharing their experiences, good and bad means so much. Want you all to play your very best and get only but fun out the game!
You've illustrated that down movement low and left with the forearm rotation so well -- I was trying to figure out something similar in a video that Pete Cowen posted. But you have put the concept of what the feeling is more comprehensively with the hands pushing out from up high ... giving the hands plently of room to move so effortlessly down and inside. I'd be curious to see how you might then go about shot shaping fades/draws/knock downs, etc. using that movement pattern
Hi there, thank you so much for the kind words. Glad you found the video useful. Please check out my shot shaping video, it’s very simply to apply and have identical feels to this video. Best wishes Stu
I have had good success with this so far. The ball contact feeling is amazing. Would you agree that this is similar to what Mike Malaska teaches (the Malaska move)? I had trouble understanding what Mike was trying to get us to do but you seem to have provided the missing ingredient.
Great - this looks helpful. Why are you the only one giving us this info? I reckon MOST of us struggling amateurs tend to throw the club at the ball, then try all sorts of club lean moves to try and find compression. Can't wait to try this, but one question... I get the "impression" that most of us manipulate things in an attempt to feel that our arms and club shaft get into straightish line at impact (other than a bit of shaft lean) ? Looking at pros I got the impression that they always keep a "angle" between arms and shaft, and this video (to me) seems to confirm that.? It also gives me a better idea of proper "release".... I'm guessing that thinking of straight lines is what causes us to early extend Cheers
Stu, I played 9 holes yesterday, I hadn't practiced your method much but I kept the concept in mind and I had a decent game. The main feel I got from it was that "I've had the wrong perspective before" and for most of us we don't really get how we are supposed to get a decent ball strike. With most lessons I've seen it always feels like we should mainly "worry about the backswing and the downswing will just work if you get your hips working". I'm no longer frightened of the downswing and trying to lean the shaft, I'm already looking to "pull" the lead arm in and thru lower and the feedback from ball strike is great... This is the first time I've understood the follow thru.. Cheers again.
It's obvious you've made a lot of work and experimentation to come with this content. Thanks for sharing here. It's very well explained, in few days I start to easily incorpore this system of yours in my swing conception And realisation. See you on the others videos 😜
Awesome Video... I watch alot of golf video..I started playing golf a few years ago..shooting in the lower 90s.. I was paired this weekend with a 68 year old golfer.. Has the most unorthodox swing.. But wow strike the ball extremely well... I had to ask him.. He never went for a lesson.. He says that his body adapted to his swing and only you need to learn is to hit the ground at the same place all the time.He use to take a stick and later a club and do this. He said you can learn from videos but when your body tired during a round you will default to what you body know. Everyone body is different and has limitation . He shot 8 over par. Brilliant short game... Just though I will share.. I shot 96 and I am watching videos again...😅
.. become an short game specialist and you will shoot 86 guaranteed. .. Get a long rope, say 60m. Tie a knot every 10 yards or meters. Lay the rope out and practice pitching your distances. You could get 5 plastic flags and stick them in the ground where the knots are. Then practice what it feels like to hit 20yds, 30yds etc. For putting you need to do what Tiger did which is to ‘draw your putts’. ie draw a opposed to fade. You might say you can’t draw your putts which is correct but the draw pattern of swinging the putter is what you want to promote when putting, not neutral pattern and not fade pattern. Finally your number one priority when putting is to hit the sweet spot, in my opinion 👍
Absolutely fantastic Stu, really good tip with the glove and align stick, will be doing that. I would love to see you do the same for the Driver swing!! Cheers Craig
Hellu Stu. Having difficulty transitioning from the pull the club out move to the push the club down move. In your slow motion examples, you seem to stop between the two moves, but the full speed swing is more free flowing, without any noticeable change of direction form out to down. Should I concentrate on the push down and around move and let the pull out happen by itself. Cheers Robert
Hi Robert - if you can’t apply full in your interpretation I would look to work on your leg action, which will help apply these changes. Hope that helps my friend. Best wishes Stu
I am trying to understand what muscles/ bodyparts are pulling the handle forward, and what are pulling it down. I am a doomed down and out to the roght 3 hcp player but it is one good week and then 2 shitty ones, no consitency
Hi Stu, love your videos. This is very similar to Mike Malaska's 'Tipping the Club' feel. I believe this feel to be the correct feel, but I often struggle to consistently "lower the handle down and externally rotate" after "moving the handle forward". I often end up pulling the shot due the club path coming extremely from the outside while lowering the handle and turn. Do you have any tips for this?
Richard, many have said about MM - I am not familiar with any other coaches out there. I stay well clear; my advice for the pull, is A, it’s not your club path and B it’s your face 😊 and finally… watch more of my content. Hope that helps my friend. Best wishes Stu 😊
Hi Stu, thank you for the very interesting approach that is very different from most of the other teaching. May I ask is this a new method or is this what is actually happening in the pros actual movement in a swing?
Hey Ben - thanks for reaching out; as far as I’m concerned , this is what’s actually happening and not what is perceived to be happening. If you have seen enough of my content, everything is backed ip with data. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu
i can make reasonable left arm only swings/stikes for me its just a left handed topspin backhand, well at least im externally rotating my forearm! PS when i set up for a draw feeling a flatter shallower downswing, rather than in to out works for me
First of all I believe there are plenty of ways to describe a golf swing. However I think that the arms in the downswing work simultaneously. What I mean by that is some players may have a tendency to have too much outward motion than downward motion on their hands, and some players have the opposite. I think the most important thing is to find the balance between those two rather than build a sequence of it. To put things in perspective, I haven’t heard of anyone talks about the hands should go inward then upward in the backswing so how come the hands in the downswing should go outward then inward?
I’d love to hear which golfers you think make this move well. I’d also love to hear how this applies to the famous video of Tiger and Butch in 2000 where Tiger talks about his arms racing to beat his body. Thanks!
Shane Lowry would be a good place to start… what Tiger and Butch did is what they did; I wouldn’t like to say they applied this or speculate on their intention. Best wishes Stu.
Same notion with driver? I've always tried to feel like golf is all one swing and we alter it for different clubs by changing set up. What do you think of looking at it that way? Loosely speaking I think driver and iron is the same swing with a different set up. Cheers.
Exacatly the same with driver; please watch my broom series and my latest video of broom and driver drill. Will make so much sense. Hope that helps, best wishes Stu
Best demo of this is Ben Hogan’s left upper arm having lots of daylight with this upper body in the downswing. His hands went out then in when he pivoted around the corner.
I think the "move the handle out" can mislead some. Just as the vids saying drop the arms. Surely, in essence the motion we are looking for is to retrace a similar hand path of that in the backswing, albeit with different forces. What I take from the 'move the handle out' is a split second where I'm not rushing to hit the bloody ball from the top and even a sensation where the shaft flattens fractionally. Your demonstration of your hands going out beyond your shoulder line and even chin (some say handsome features 😂) will no doubt confuse the hell out of many. My question to you would be, does the lead arm go down from the top any different than the way it went up? I'm not talking about rotation or wrist angle, just the motion of up and down
Hi Stu, the moving the hands out and down is a concept with which I struggle. Can you clarify do you move hands straight out to ball line, ie to right of ball, before moving them down or are you moving hands outwards to ball location before lowering? I assume the later with irons and former with driver? Also what causes hands to rise after impact, or is that just the momentum of the club head passing the hands?
I think my problem is I wait too long to go from pull to pushing down. If you pull too much in front of you it seems very hard to pull down. Am I correct that the pull out to pull down transition happens pretty early? Maybe around your right hip/leg area?
It happens as demonstrated my friend; slow the video down and you’ll see when and where. But it’s equally not an exact science and other ingredients are players too. Hope that helps. 😊
I've heard a student from another instructor practicing what looks like you're teaching here. The student said it feels like he's trying to stab his lead leg in the thigh while coming through impact. Would you agree with this feeling?
So Great Stu, The only issue for people to understand is External vs Internal. If you land the Left Humerus into the Left Ribcabe it gets simple. The Forearm now can release down and Forward. Just my two cents. But the info is spot on! Good Job..
I disagree, I think people absolutely get internal and external, “left humerous” however, ask ten people, 2 might know what that is. 😂😂But, appreciate your thoughts and thanks for sharing!
Stu-i believe this video can go hand in hand with golfer standing in front of wall w back n butt close to wall.u definitely hv to pull club forward as u start the downswing so clubhead will still remain sliding down the wall
This is good but the golfing industry will all preach flat left wrist, even training aids like the hanger and hack motion promote a flat left wrist. I’ve tried this cupping of the lead wrist but seem to hit everything left especially with irons and also find it adds loft and I lose distance. I see all pros with a flat or bowed wrist at impact, I’d be happy to hit it like them, is this video a feel vs real thing because I’ve slowed down some of your videos and don’t see this much cupping. What am I missing?
What you are missing is the idea that this one video alone will conquer all. I appreciate the industry promotes flat left wrist, but show me a coach that swings it as orthodox as me, and hits and demonstrates like me. Whilst I dont want to sound egotistical here, but the industry, as far as I’m concerned has it wrong. And not just a little bit. My first port of call for you would be my grip series, this will be where you are missing/lacking. But like most instruction, the grip is vastly over looked. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu 😊
So if one brings hands down , like you do in real swing and then rotate them externally.. it’s what’s really happening? Because let’s face it, you don’t execute your drill visually..
That’s because the force down is greater than the force out, due to the earths core, the weight of the golf club. In the same way, you don’t see the lateral force occurring on your car’s tyres when you go around a corner, but it’s absolutely happening. If you ignore what’s happening and focus on what you see, you will never play golf to your true potential. Best wishes Stu
I watched your " find your gold swing " video. Guring your warm up shots, I see your elbow below your shoulder at the top of the swing, as you swing your elbow stays infront of you right pocket, you hav e alignment stick on the ground below your hand at set up when you swing your hands never travel outside the alignment stick, So yeah this video shows that you can hit shots swinging outside then down and in . Seems like a backward Jim Furyk swing , I have watched a few of your other videos giving lessons using the band and ball and getting grip right but you did not tell anyone to swing outside then down and in. Maybe you should do a video lesson with a client training him to learn this outside then down and in swing method.. Im sure there are other that would be interested to see how one of your students would adopt this swing method.
Tiger once described it as "turning the screw down." Go down any driving range and see the majority of golfers swinging handle out. It's such a cancer indeed
Cretin ahhahahaha, static questions are relentless Stuart, but another original good golf coaching video.I know your a very busy Guy sky sports and so on,but when you have the time could you please pretty please even hahahaha arrange a spot for an old guy........kudos Stuart.
All golf coaches are bad Golf swingers. There is only one way to swing. if people hit bad way then they adjust body for the bad way and get injured often. What is best way The one you have no swing thoughts. All automatic
@@GoodGolfCoaching i like people who hit golf swing like its nothing. Carlos franco and even one come in borgmier channel alexa martin. no waffling ..just saying been there done that
I don't understand, is it just a drill a feel thing with the hands out over the ball and in or what? In your slow mo swing, your hands are inside the entire time?
@@GoodGolfCoaching I took the pull with loose grip lag video and was launching piercing 8 irons prolly 170+ yards earlier. Now if I can just get the whole left hands and shoulder around thing to work with it it’ll be game changer. Gonna go watch that broom stuff now.

Tremendous drill. Is it possible/effective to try to maintain the left wrist cupping throughout the entire swing?
Depends on your grip Steve.
PS when i set up for a draw feeling a flatter shallower downswing, rather than in to out works for me
If that works Graham, keep doing I say! 😊😊
I would ask you to watch more of my content to find out why 😊
Same what Pete Cowen is teaching, just with the lead hand
I’m glad Pete is sharing my thoughts 😊
So the club lines up at ledt thigh and not before ? If that is true what is the consequence if yiu line up the club to early and how to prevent ?
I didn’t reference the left thigh my friend, only how the club unloads and the left hand orientation. Hope that helps.
Lovely, thanks for sharing!
I'm not talking about rotation or wrist angle, just the motion of up and down
Yes, different on the way down Doug to the way up. Best wishes Stu.
I explain this precisely Mel in this video, no?
@@GoodGolfCoaching Maybe I am thick but the aspects I asked about are areas I would like clarification on please.
Handle moves towards the ball line before moving them down with both iron and driver. Hope that helps Mel. 😊
Hey Garth - I’d encourage you to watch the video and apply the advice. No stabbing of the leg needed Sir.
Stu, I assume this is for all clubs (including driver)?
Yes, absolutely Dave.
To make the clubhead run down the wall you would have to create excessive external trail arm rotation. Wouldn’t recommend. Best wishes Stu.
@@GoodGolfCoaching thx stu
Pleasure Yeo 😊
Guring your warm up shots, I see your elbow below your shoulder at the top of the swing, as you swing your elbow stays infront of you right pocket, you hav e alignment stick on the ground below your hand at set up when you swing your hands never travel outside the alignment stick,
So yeah this video shows that you can hit shots swinging outside then down and in . Seems like a backward Jim Furyk swing ,
I have watched a few of your other videos giving lessons using the band and ball and getting grip right but you did not tell anyone to swing outside then down and in.
Maybe you should do a video lesson with a client training him to learn this outside then down and in swing method..
Im sure there are other that would be interested to see how one of your students would adopt this swing method.
Thanks Greg, will do! Best wishes Stu
Tiger once described it as "turning the screw down." Go down any driving range and see the majority of golfers swinging handle out. It's such a cancer indeed
👍👍
Stu baby rubbish not garbage mate!! Great lesson and concept just difficult to implement!🙏🙏🙏
Hahaha sorry old chum, rubbish it is. One video one do it; learn in layers and you’ll get it for sure. 👌
Cretin ahhahahaha, static questions are relentless Stuart, but another original good golf coaching video.I know your a very busy Guy sky sports and so on,but when you have the time could you please pretty please even hahahaha arrange a spot for an old guy........kudos Stuart.
Hi John - my diary is open. You can access via the link in the descriptions. Hope that helps. Or you can find me on Skillest. Best wishes Stu
All golf coaches are bad Golf swingers. There is only one way to swing. if people hit bad way then they adjust body for the bad way and get injured often. What is best way
The one you have no swing thoughts. All automatic
Automatic golf swing, ahhhh, what a magical thought!
@@GoodGolfCoaching i like people who hit golf swing like its nothing. Carlos franco and even one come in borgmier channel alexa martin.
no waffling ..just saying been there done that
...been there done what exactly? Most important thing is, you feel you have done your work to the best of your ability, and thats great 👍
Your RIGHT ! Your Not a Talented Golfer ! Your Expert Broomologist !
Yes I am 😂😂 🧹
I don't understand, is it just a drill a feel thing with the hands out over the ball and in or what? In your slow mo swing, your hands are inside the entire time?
Have you watched my broom series Chris, will make more sense after watching that playlist.
@@GoodGolfCoaching I have not. I’ll check it out. Thanks!
@@GoodGolfCoaching I took the pull with loose grip lag video and was launching piercing 8 irons prolly 170+ yards earlier. Now if I can just get the whole left hands and shoulder around thing to work with it it’ll be game changer. Gonna go watch that broom stuff now.
Enjoy
