    For anyone complaining about this cars performance, obviously a car with huge amounts of torque driven only to the front wheels is going to struggle heavily for traction off the line & have huge amounts of torque steer, but this car does an exceptional job still, regardless of not having an LSD (only reserved for the full N models) & launch control really does an impressive job to help it off a dig, where this car truly shines though is in it’s roll on performance, it is an absolute bullet & exceptional bang for your buck in terms of performance, it almost rips anything in its class in a roll on acceleration test or drag, I have beaten a i30 N (manual) & WRX STi (2014-2021 model) in a roll race, and kept up with a tuned Evo VII (beat him off the line as that car struggled to build boost off a dig), trust me this car for being a sporty family sedan & not a full on sports car is an absolute weapon, the wet 8 speed DCT shifts rocket like. Numbers on such youtube videos can be deceiving if you haven’t driven or experienced any car for yourself. I would love to see a video on how this car does against the i30 N sedan (Elantra N) with the DCT in a drag & roll race as this is a 2.5 turbo while the Elantra N is a 2.0 turbo

  • @teddym2808

    in AWD with launch control this would be a 5 second car, MAX. 4.8 ish is reasonable to expect. I mean on paper my Ateca's torque band is inferior, 400 from 2000-5000 rather than 420 in the Sonata from such a low 1650RPM, but because of the grip, I have *smoked* two different N-line cars so far in a straight line (i30N and Kona N) and I doubt it would be much different with this. What makes it even more interesting is that my car is 100kg heavier than Kona N and ~200kg more than i30N. So that is absolute proof of the difference even a FWD biased Haldex AWD system makes when flooring the throttle. I also checked various videos and the Sonata 0-100 times are all within margin of error of Kona N and I30 N and vice versa.
    And hey, before anyone says I am anti Hyundai, I am NOT. I would have LOVED to spend a bit less and get the Kona N, but I just don't want front wheel drive with 200+ kilowatts of power. I am in a situation where I am very tall with a serious back issue and I need an SUV so I can get in and out easier, but ultimately I will always prefer wagons, sedans or hot hatches (once had a manual Volvo V70R, loved that thing). But I am all in the PLUS column when it comes to Hyundai's LC system, their wet clutch version DCT and their Hi-Po engines, as I love small Hi-Po Turbo ICE cars. Hyundai are curious, they offer AWD in the lower engine Kona and in some other cars but it seems their performance cars miss out. I guess they really love obscenely powered FWD cars! But for me, if they ever want my custom, I want AWD with those sort of power outputs.

  • @shanebluesky7452
    @shanebluesky7452 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Like the fact you build boost when doing launch control. Other people release the brake as soon as it says launch control ready. Different companies have different approaches so giving a second more doesn't hurt. And you just smashed the company figure with the 0-100 they say it in 6.1 you got 5.9.

    • @PDriveTV
      @PDriveTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yep, great point. If the car has proper launch control like this, and a turbo engine, it can't hurt to let the boost build a bit before setting off. McLarens and the new BMW M3/M4 actually make you wait for a second, with a note on the dash letting you know when it's ready to launch.
      As usual with all cars we test, we do a lot more behind-the-scenes with the Vbox, trying out a handful of different modes and take-off methods to make sure we give the cars their best chance.

      Picking the right muffler could make it sound deep, throaty, while also removing drone. Presilencers do well at attenuation as well.
      All engines are just air pumps that are very similar in most aspects of design outside a rotary. Displacement, number of cylinders, and forced induction affect sound, but exhaust tuning is huge. Factories tend to tune conservatively, and this isn't a Sonata N, it is an N-line. This also isn't a hot hatch like the veloster.
      What this car is, is a sports sedan for parents and those looking for a bit more refinement and room, not necessarily looking for the sound of popcorn from their exhaust note, nor drone or headaches.
      I've had an rx7 without a cat back. Sounded amazing in tunnels, no four cylinder would match, maybe an STi, nor do they compare to a deep rumbly V8.
      You might want to take a moment and think about what exhaust is, how it's made, and realize how silly your statement was. It sounds like any other 4 cylinder to me that is made for mass market. Unstimulating, but aggressive for office drones.

      Alot of 2.0L engines have more power or are equal to this cars kw (namely Golf R & Audi S3) where this car truly shines is in its torque figures for its class, and it will both those cars in a roll on race as it has less drivetrain loss, from a dig it will get pumped as AWD will easily take off much quicker
