  • Hi, it's Katherine from MyExperience.uk and today I published my DIY Cap Highlights video I have recorded last summer. I've been conflicted on whether to upload it or not as I was not liking myself in it:( Lastly, I've edited the video in a way that it's focusing on my hair:) Please watch to see how I do my hair and if you like it please subscribe to my channel!
    P.S. Professional hairstylist at a trendy hair salon severely damaged my hair, and that is why I have decided to do it myself. So far it's much better as my hair is slowly growing back, so please don't judge!

    How to don’t make streaks near to the roots, yours came so perfectly, any advice??

    • @myexperience_uk
      @myexperience_uk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, it's not professional advice, but I'm trying not to layer too much highlighter too close to the cap, as that probably creates so-called 'hot roots'. I usually just start like 1cm of the head and then after I cover all pulled out hair, I go back and smug the highlighter closer towards the head: in like a brush strokes motion. Hope that makes sense

    • @myexperience_uk
      @myexperience_uk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Soraya Navarro Hi, If you forward to 1:54 minutes in my video, you'll be able to see that the cap I'm using has holes in the purple circles and in between them. So first, on my t-section (top of my head and sides around the face) I pull my hair through every single hole. Then on the rest of my head only through the holes in purple circles. Hope that helps!

    how do you keep your hair from knoting underneath the cap? there would literally come out dreads from the holes instead of hair stans

    • @myexperience_uk
      @myexperience_uk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sorry for not replying earlier - I somehow missed it! I make sure there is no texture in my hair so they are sleek and not knotting. When planning to do highlights, I don't use much dry shampoo or texturising products between washing my hair and highlighting. I also noticed that with my hair length it's not an issue, but I imagine it can be a problem with long hair. Thanks

  • @k.hebert
    @k.hebert 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Are you suppose to brush it straight back?! I've always been told that you are suppose to part it to how you normally style your hair before putting the cap on. That's how I've always done it! 😲

    • @myexperience_uk
      @myexperience_uk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Kayla Hebert Hi, I've brushed it to the back as I don't wear my hair one way, but I usually wear it in a high ponytail to the back. Doing it this way, I never had a poorly looking top section of my hair regardless the parting - so far:) It just made sense for me, but if you are wearing your hair one way, it's worth to do more research before highlighting. Hope that makes sense, thanks:)

    • @myexperience_uk
      @myexperience_uk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not too hard, I always have the cap tight on my head so when I pull hair out its close to my scalp. You probably can see better on my second highlighting video, where I've done T-section. In the worst-case scenario, I would probably add a couple of foils on front.

      If you are highlighting your hair for the first time, it's a good idea to ask a professional for a bit of advice and do a skin test to make sure you are not allergic or sensitive to any of the products. Hope all goes well, thanks :)

  • @AtomHeartBat

    A professional almost burnt my sculp; he left the color 2.30 hours.
    Yes.
    As a result, I cannot stand any color; my head burns and I can't stand it more than 5 minutes. Last time I tried to color the roots I lost some hair too.
    It's been 6 months since the last time I tried to color my hair. Now I have darker roots and grey roots, which mean I have to do something about it. Leaving it the way it is won't do; it looks neglected.
    I cannot color them grey either, cause I'm too mediterranean and the bleach will ruin my hair.
    I've order professional color without ammonia and a cap so I'll try what you're doing!
    The kit will be here in about 2 weeks.
    Fingers crossed!

      @AtomHeartBat Hi, I know how hard it's to have it ruined by someone, but I hope your skin and hair is better now. Decent job. I’d advise to process a bit longer next time and to touch up the bottom since it’s quite orange toned. You could do that for the last 10 minutes of a 40 minute processing and you’d push out of that bright yellow stage and begin correcting the uneven color.
    Sorry a salon did you dirty but I’d look around for a stylist who’s portfolio you like if you are looking to do a real color correction.

Please feel free to watch it and let me know what you think?
