- Hi Beautiful! I've been seeing cap highlighting be done lately by everyone including pro hairstylists. I wanted to do some research today and see what all the hype is about. Cause girl I have not touched a cap highlight since the age of 8 and I never thought I'd see it come back again.

My dad was not a hairdresser but said he would have been if there wasn’t such a stigma around male hairdressers in the 70s/80s. He used to do my super blonde hair & regrowth and he never messed it up once!!!! When I started going to the hair salon (he was socialising heaps and I hated bugging him to do my regrowth) I was so disappointed. My dad missed his calling.

Brad is so nice to literally everyone and that’s why I love him so much as a TH-camd. You could literally bleach your hair until your bald and he’d be like wow bald legend we love you and I live for it. ❤️
I had a hairdresser do highlights on me worse than some of these. I changed to a better stylist and she kept asking me over and over if I did them myself because they were so awful 🤣🤣She saved my hair though and turned it from a disaster to something gorgeous

I once highlighted a friend's hair with a cap...she was sitting with her back against the couch, and by hour 2 and barely halfway done, she was leaning her head against the couch while I was still pulling. We didn't notice or think it would do anything and once we rinsed out her highlights, she had a good 3-inch gap of roots just on the back of her head and it looked awful! The whole thing took 4-5 hours total and then we had to do it AGAIN. Worst coloring experience of my life, and I felt terrible.

The secret with the cap is to never touch the roots. Kind of like balayage style. Apply bleach to the mid section then brush down, if you want some pieces to look closer to the root, then brush up, a little at a time, but if you keep a healthy distance from the root it will work out fine and look natural. No blotchiness, no mess.

9:04 I hear you when you say a skilled hair dresser is best but I don’t think that’s always the case and I stand by the one person somewhere who said if I shalll eff up my hair then why not it be by me… why pay someone else to eff it up. And my highlights last time did not come out even. So I’m standing by this method and just learning what not to do. Practice makes perfect

Hey Mondo!! My corona growth is past due so my daughter is going to do my highlights via cap so we don't have any "accidents" with spillage. No foils like I would at the salon because ~ well, my stylist won't be available for MONTHS and I ain't doin' it!! Have you ever let a complete BEGINNER foil your hair?? Asking for a friend. . . 😂😂😂
My mother in the 90s had a friend "Frost" her hair with a cap. Mind you she had dark brown hair. The cap got a few huge rips in it (Im sure the woman was trying to use to huge crochet hook not the really small one) and my mother had to do her whole head! She already had dry frizzy curly hair. It was awful!!! The only time she ever lightened her hair. thank god!!
I went to beauty school in the 80s. We, through trial and error learned the angle, death and where pulling from, how thick to pull for various results. I like foil better but short hair is easier with a cap. I prefer the thicker cap.

@@justignoreme5842 Color with developer in it caaaaaan lift color, occasionally, depending on your hair. But it's not reliable like bleach. It's even more likely that it will damage your hair, but not budge your color.

I did this to a friend’s hair and she wanted a “natural sunkissed” look. It took me 4 hours pulling out itty bitty hair clusters using that damned hook & cap. It looked amazing when finished & she was thrilled while I was worn out. She wanted me to do it next time but to quote The Raven, “Nevermore.” 💋

my dad was a hairdresser for 10yrs when I was little. he still does my hair at home and he only ever uses a cap on me. it's never failed us! 😊😊
Right?? My mum is a hairdresser as well and used to do cap highlights on me and they are my absolute fav! I have multicolor ones now so she has to use foils, but i really love that little natural hint of "random" when it comes to cap highlights, they just look so much more natural to me.

I did that for my friend. She had medium warm brown hair and spent $80 for red highlights at empire and you couldn't see them at all. I used the frosting cap, bleached, washed, then put an 8rn in and when I finished drying/styling it, it looked absolutely amazing. She had so much dimension and you could actually see the red, which really brought out all that warmth. I wish I had gotten a picture... two days later she asked me to color her whole head in the red because she liked it so much. It was such a pain trying to avoid what I had already colored.

Oh, I used to be in the same boat as you. I wanted super short hair, but I had verrrrry long hair. I was too scared that hairstylists would mess it up and I'd look ridiculous because I wouldn't be able to instantly grow it back. Then, one day I woke up and didn't give a shit.
I went from hair that was down to my hips to an undercut and I don't regret it one bit.
Yeah, I know hair is a precious thing that you should take care of, but my recommendation to you is to stop worrying about what could happen and go for it. If it goes bad, oh well. Lesson learned. But if you don't try it at all you might regret it. Live your extra life, hun!
