      @@sicboi - as far as teams with homegrown players, ireland is pretty much mid-table in this world cup. new zealand has only slightly more homegrown players. In fact, 6 of NZ players qualified through residency. Only 3 of irelands players qualified through residency. the rest are irish or have irish parents so its a little hypocritical to call out Ireland for fielding players qualified through residency.

    • @nils266
      @nils266 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that’s an unfair assessment in a contact sport. SA had a very clean game and they definitely are not reliant on injuring another player, but they always try to tire the other team, pressure them physically and get into their head enough that they cannot play their game and the flyhalf for example doesn‘t have the right pass timing or misses kicks because he is too gassed and inside his head.

    • @geoffnelson6756
      @geoffnelson6756 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nils266 it's clearly the object of every team to disrupt the opposing 10, but probably just a coincidence that it is always 6'7, 120kg Steph du Toit, or De Allende, likely always a coincidence that the 'tackle takes place just after the ball has been passed and everyone is following the ball carrier. Anyway Sexton isn't going to moan about it, but the idea of rugby is to tackle the player'with' the ball and fine margins to call a late tackle. De Toit is very good at his job.

    • @paddypup1836

      @@nils266 hi. Yes I wasn’t even referring to SA in this case but in general. You are dead on with the physical side making a difference. Sometimes it’s cynical tackles that are the difference that I don’t agree with. When you beat a side it’s always best to beat the best version of that side and not win by sneaky tackles.

    A lot can be said about how these pools were drawn a few years ago. Getting a game as intense as this quite early was actually a treat though. France v NZ to open the tournament was another one, and Wales v Australia was also interesting…

    • @michaelodonnell824
      @michaelodonnell824 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      One problem with the very unbalanced nature of the pools is that, because they only have to face teams ranked lower than Sixth in the World, mediocre English and Welsh teams begin to think that they are better than they are.
      The deeper reality is that one of Ireland, South Africa or Scotland will exit the tournament before the quarter finals when the second team of any of them could and have recently DESTROYED the English and Welsh teams...

Anyone who has played rugby or watched this year knows how much “immediately “can vary from official to official . Either way it is safe to say that two beast of teams faced off today and will surely face off again in this competition. Another thing I will say great to see such a physical contest from both teams and yet no contentious shoulder to head etc decisions . Credit to the level of all the players involved aswell as coaching . The England team I hope where taking notes on tackle positioning

    From about min 50 to 70min, the Boks dominated but could not execute(taking the blame off the kickers here - their composure and decision-making were poor(No coincidence they had NO leaders on the field at that time Eben,Siya and Mbonambi were subbed off-and the calls came from the Rassie Light Show). Can they develop and improve that in the next few weeks?
    Ireland's composure was just INCREDIBLE!! They had a chance for a drop goal (at 10-8) as well before the penalty to make it 13-8, but it caught De Allende's hand. So this shows they do have that drop goal play in their arsenal(and will probably use it if necessary in the KO games.) @ 75:30 the delayed feed by Conor Murray is an old head being ice cold -He delayed the feed, just long enough for the Springboks to go into autopilot and shove early earning them the penalty. That was just a brilliant play to watch.
    Irish gave away 2 penalties from about the +/- 50m line in the last 5 minutes (and may have possibly conceded another one at 77:50 for Bundi not releasing the tackler -kolbe) -for the most part, In the last 10 minutes their defensive line was superb, never throwing into many bodies to avoid penalties- add the 66% lineouts and 70% scrums - Ireland will work on this and be better in the KO games, a scary prospect for any opponent in the KO games. Sadly I just don't see Scotland denying this Irish side a win. Ireland are just too good.
    As for the Last Maul and collapse -the Rugby rules state when the maul is collapsed - the ball has to be IMMEDIATELY available - The "Use it or Lose it.." Rule so it was at the discretion of the Ref to blow when he felt he needed to.
    Springboks have a problem at 1) Hooker with throws, 2)Their Temprement in the business end of tight games. (they may bring on Duane Vermeulen as a sub to keep heads level in the 2nd half), 3) their kicker(yes they have Pollard available but with only 20mins clubs level game time in ages- he will be a bit rusty) and lastly 4) I think the Boks are missing a trick with their centre combo- It is clear they are a great physical and defensive side but looks like they need some X-factor player like Moodie in at centre to create some havoc.
    The rankings are probably justified at this Stage: 1) Ireland 2)France 3) Boks 4)NZ ..both Ireland and Boks should get better now it is up to France(without Dupont) and NZ without their Aura/ Fear Factor to show the world that they too are here to win it!!!

    • @winandtvedder2235
      @winandtvedder2235 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everyone is talking about what happens after a maul is collapsed, but you are not looking at how it collapsed in the first place. Bundi Aki came from the side of the maul, not through the gate, lifted a Boks player's legs and went to ground which affectively collapsed the whole maul. If there was any review by the TMO, it would have been a penalty try. Loss to Ireland
      Im also very interested in these supplements and grips spray that the Irish players keep taking during water breaks. Definitely, if legal, should be used by SA too. Works a charm

      'overcelebrating like England did' - I think those words may come back to haunt one or perhaps both these teams - just as England 'Broke' the AB's and SA & Ireland pretty much did the same to each other in this game, I get a feeling that the 'grind' will take it's toll on both - I would not be surprised if neither make the final! Who knows, it's just a hunch...

      I'm not Irish, but my biggest fear for them is when they get to the QFs they seem to freeze. Remember in 2011 and 2015 Ireland won all their group games convincingly and were favourites to win the QFs but instead got thumped by Wales and Argentina in those games. Hope for Ireland's sake they get that monkey off their back. Whereas South Africa are masters of knock-out rugby. This World Cup is so intriguing as to how open it is.

    9.44 Aki sacks the maul a meter from the try line coming in from the side. When the maul collapses the ref is then immediately looking to see if the ball is available (rightly so). Aki took a risk that the ref wouldn't be willing to make a strong decision that affects the result of the game in the last play, he was right...
