  • Here's part 2 of my build for the Great Guitar Build Off 2021. In this video I make the Forged carbon body and start the necks. As this is a prototypical build I don't yet know whether the design is better suited to a guitar or bass, so I've decided to build it as both with interchangeable necks, bridges, and tail pieces. It's a different idea and I think it will work out well!

As of now I'm booking about a year out on new custom orders, so contact me soon if you'd like something special!

ok... that tip on the fabric becoming a mold shape is kind of blowing my mind... i was just wondering how to make a carbon dashboard all organic and flowy and smooth et voila !!!

Somehow I think you are entering a completely different Build Off than everyone else. Whole different level of build. Really interesting and wonderful to watch. Will be exciting to hear it in both forms when it is finished. Really curious what it will weigh and how it will balance.

Please take adequate protection when working with Carbon Fiber. The dust is known to be dangerous, and the fibers are similar in size and shape to Asbestos - enough said. I'm very interested in how the guitar will sound.

At 6:30 you mention a vacuum generator run by compressed air.
Do you have any more information on this piece of equipment? I've never heard of it.

    • @ringbrookstrings2868

      This is the specific item.
      www.fibreglast.com/product/1148_Vacuum_Generator
Basically pressurized air travels over a void at a right angle which pulls molecules out of the void as it moves so long as laminar flow is maintained. Just google image the venturi effect for some helpful diagrams!

The carbon fiber being "more toxic" is true and false. Over time, it can do damage to your lungs, but a guy in my moms carving club was cutting blanks of butternut on his resaw when he hit a mostly hollow pocket and spores flew in his face. He died almost 2 weeks later in i.c.u. on a ventilator, because they couldn't get the fluid off of his lungs as fast as it would form.
It's *SUPER* rare, but it does happen.

When I see this thing road tested and staying in tune I will pay more attention to it. Otherwise the Carbon Fiber is just cosmetic.

It's a good thing that no other guitar ever had stuff just for cosmetic effect, eh?
