Part 2 Forged Carbon Fiber Floating Top Guitar and Bass by James Herbert GGBO 2021
มุมมอง 26K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's part 2 of my build for the Great Guitar Build Off 2021. In this video I make the Forged carbon body and start the necks. As this is a prototypical build I don't yet know whether the design is better suited to a guitar or bass, so I've decided to build it as both with interchangeable necks, bridges, and tail pieces. It's a different idea and I think it will work out well! Instagram: @ring...

    The carbon fiber being "more toxic" is true and false. Over time, it can do damage to your lungs, but a guy in my moms carving club was cutting blanks of butternut on his resaw when he hit a mostly hollow pocket and spores flew in his face. He died almost 2 weeks later in i.c.u. on a ventilator, because they couldn't get the fluid off of his lungs as fast as it would form. It's *SUPER* rare, but it does happen.

    Interesting layups. I would consider adding some carbon nano particles to the resin, it makes it ring a little better.

    What is the spray adhesive you're using to tack the Carbon Fibre in place?

    • @ringbrookstrings2868
      @ringbrookstrings2868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried a few different ones, not sure what I was using there, but the best one I've found yet is Krylon's gold leaf adhesive. It's a fine spray with a light bond so it doesn't leave as much residue as many of the others. Also it only really matters on the first layer that will be exposed. For connecting the inner layers you can really use whatever's convenient so long as it's a glue that fully dries.

    Very nice craftsmanship, you made it look easy. With carbon fiber and epoxy, slow and easy is the only pace and preparation is key!. Wonderful job!!! I really enjoyed watching this video!!!!

    JAMES... WOW!!! I have now watched the entire series and absolutely loved the time and effort that you put into both the build and your videos. This is most likely the finest guitar in the build. I voted for this Guitar before I had the privilege of seeing your video. I voted for many other guitars also. Guitars I thought were amazing, Guitars that were lacking votes, and my own Guitar. But had I seen your video first I would have voted for you exclusively. Thats right, not even my own!!! Well done sir. Well Done.

    Absolutely fantastic concept, and build! I had to give up playing 'doghouse' years ago- due to hand health issues from improper (self taught) technique, and your bass is the closest I've seen/heard to be a qualifier for that feel, and sound! I would proudly play that! Kudos!

    Well folks, voting is just about to finish. Looks like I won’t be making it in front of the judges this time but I really appreciate all the support I’ve received through this growing channel! You all seem like lovely people and I look forward to regularly putting out more vids for you all to enjoy. Several wild projects are already in the works and I’m chewing on a few ideas for the GGBO 2022. Hit that subscribe button to stay posted!

      In my opinion as the greatest critic on youtube - you should have won the whole thing. You created something with unique materials, a more unique shape, and amazing craftmanship. GGBO seems to be more of a contest of who is the most popular on youtube.

    In spite of your very fine editing, (I watched all four videos twice) I am still not 100% sure how you change from the guitar to the bass. I wish you had included some footage of that process. Perhaps I missed something? If you or one of your commenters would enlighten me I would really appreciate it. Anyway, beautiful workmanship and good luck in the GGBO 2021!I

    Beautiful work. FYI, poke a pin hole through the metal foil seal on the top of the Tru-Oil bottle. This extends it's shelf life a bit (it can be kind of short once opened), and when it eventually gets knocked over, it keeps it from spilling so much. I think I will watch your final video now. Regards.
