Parasocial relation strengthened : ) I was scared for a few second that my very pertinent and interesting question would be over-shadowed by the funny picture we couldn't see.
Having "stop doing ad reads" as a Patreon goal honestly makes a lot of sense to me and seems like a good transitional path. I don't really care if you have to do ad reads (I'm usually not buying ad read products/subscriptions) to reach a net positive goal but the concerns around sponsorships is valid and if you can both get to a point where you wouldn't really need to rely on them to meet your goals for the podcast, then that's great! In the meantime, fuck it, as brought to you by RAID: Shadow Legends
What they're describing in the later half about the Halo Infinite script sounds an awful lot like the movie "Adaptation" by Charlie Kaufman. He famously took a book that was supposedly impossible to adapt into a movie and made it a character study and a movie about writing itself.
I’ve never been able to really get into any podcasts. This is the only one that I like and I LOVE it. If you guys make a Patreon, I will definitely pay.
I feel like for the halo thing, doing an episode or two of a script reading and explaining how this story is impossible to cover would be cool or what sam was suggesting in making it a main video explaining this stuff.
The experiences explained on this podcast are the ones that most closely mirror my own artistic experiences and ways of working and I don't know how worried I should be
Julian you're doing it again, now i REALLY want that halo video, i neeeeed it Thank you sam, for pushing him into a such an interesting story, pls consider it
The idea of a patreon goal being the end of ad reads is pretty cool in theory, but I am also a big fan of your transition clips and their early 00s commercial vibes
You might be the only co-hosts on this planet i might trust with making add-reads funny. ... also : i have no expendable income so i hope you get to grab the add-money.
I would recommend reading "Lifespan of a Fact" by John D'Agata and Jim Fingal. A lot of people in the Creative Nonfiction/journalism world deal with trying to properly explain how something happened in real life by using words, and some people like D'Agata just decide to completely give up
19:16 NOODLE MY BABY I'M SO SORRY FOR ASKING SUCH A TOUGH QUESTION 😭😭😭 I've been dealing with A LOT of creative blocks and i had to ask my fav creator. i literally jumped 😭
As a consumer of Noodle content and especially these podcasts I can say that I personally am totally fine with y'all doing sponsorships. You do what you gotta do to make that money, and I'll respect it, as long as it's not a product that sucks ass.
I hate being an 'ideas guy' because my skillset is Swiss cheese in production. I'm a voice and a cleanup producer, but I'm not a writer, and have wished for a team to help me sure-up my weaknesses in the pipeline. Praying I can make something worth listening to this year. Your guys discussion on monetizing helps me a lot. I also don't want to flood my brainchild with some garbage I honestly wouldn't use just to get a paycheque. Love the podcast and videos, would chip money from a better position, but honestly, I can forgive and reads for a bag. Get it gamers?
personally i don't really mind ad reads, usually it's just a good few double taps and on with the day, if it's funny enough (which yours are pretty funny) i'll let it through. patreon don't really bother me much too unless it starts gating content but it's not too bad. gotta make the bag
I love how I found this podcast through the Unity video, knowing neither of these two at all, and now it's become the only podcast I actually listen to.
Ad reads are perfectly okey, as long as theyre a little unique and or quirky i dont give a flying f if its hello fresh or raid shadow legends. The existence of the podcast is more important than morals lol
I don’t usually subscribe to patreons, but this podcast is unique to me in that it’s the only podcast I know of where people who are on the same creative wavelength as me speak honestly about the process. I would pay $10-25/mn for this kind of content because I can’t get this anywhere’s else. Koffi is also a great alternative to patreon
19:18 is an insane question combo LOL intro is fire and so is ending on that question lmao when it comes to monetization id probably just do ad reads i like the uninterrupted experience of hearing u guys ramble but stuffs gotta be paid for so
As the audience, get your bag. I know what I like and I'm ok suffering an add that directly supports that. If you have to read, "I like audible" 25 times to make this work, c'est la vie!
Discovered this podcast three days ago and I love it, thanks guys. Also I just discovered Sam made desktop goose. We had an LSD trip with the boys and desktop goose on the TV was so funny. So thanks again for that.
I ran a podcast for a few years, and looked deeply into the podcasting space and came to the conclusion that to make money on a podcast you need to a) say yes to almost any sponsor or b) already have such an enourmous audience that the fraction who listens to the show will fund it. I've not found a show that manages to make money while not dedicating a large amount of runtime to ads. I like the show, want it to continue, and would pay for patreon, and I would not begrudge ad reads.
I support creators I like and feel like are doing the right thing. You aren't trying to sell me anything, you aren't trying to be money grubbing, you aren't terrible people. Ad reads and promotion is fine when we understand that it's because you need to eat too. There's a difference between sheer greed and helping people do what they love. It's obvious to me which side you are and if i wasn't dead broke right now I'd be helping you guys eat
In the world we live in where my tv shows me an ad when I turn it on, Im happy to listen to an ad read knowing an artist I like is making money to be able to live and keep creating instead of just giving Visio more money
Building off the idea of telling the story of Halo Infinite's development, how much of a mess it was, and what its really like to develop a game, you could loop or parallel its story to the mythologized stories of past Halo games, how Halo 1 was made under the severe crunch circumstances and out of completely different ideas from the final product, but underline the throughline reason why any of the work on Halo happened at all (why so many labor hours was spent on these projects and why there is something of note for the public) was the passion of developers and a mandate from a corporate owner, the former being an inspirational force, the latter being an oppressive, often times counterproductive force.
I wouldn't mind an ad-read of a less liked company/product if it presented, very fun/entertaining. But it is more difficult than on a TH-cam, unless ur pst A patreon goal, to stop adreads sounds fun
Would love a Patreon. My need for completely unlistenable podcasts is that which, the more up my alley said podcast is, the less likely it will be profitable. I am locked in an accursed hell of my own making. I'd happily trade a fiver for this breath of... air.
Advertise the podcast more directly at the end of a video I found it from the king Kong video on the noodle channel thinking it was an Easter egg one off and I can't live without it now literally my favorite content now if you did a patrion I would be super down for supporting through it
I am what is colloquially known as a poor, so I've only ever subscribed to something on patreon for a few podcasts. (Dungeons and Dames for extra episodes and I think another pod for bonus episodes. I bought a month, downloaded the eps, never bought another month) I think what you said about being less likely to directly support either through patreon or kofi or directly through youtube (I have directly supported that way before, usually when a survivor of sa or an abusive relationship comes forward with a story) when someone does an ad read, especially when promoting both the ad and the patreon/kofi/etc in the same episode does ring true for me personally, as someone who listens to this pod close to the upload date.
as long as you guys make ads entertaining and do bits and stuff i dont mind them at all :D im here cuz i enjoy the podcast if theres ads for ball shavers or patreon pages in between idc :3
don't care about ad reads, get that bag another podcast I listen to says this about their mention of their patreon: "the money we get from patreon goes to ensuring that the only ad you hear on the podcast is this one." similarly, you could lead or trail ad reads with "our current patreon goal is to not have to do ad reads, and you can help us get there by joining at..."
I haven't seen anyone else comment this yes, but through Patreon you can set up an ad-free RSS feed of the podcast. I feel it is the best compromise for getting those sponsorship ads, but asking people to sign up for Patreon. To me it says "We are selfish and would like to have food in our fridge, either listen to ads or pay us and don't." Which is fair.
I didnt watch this sooner because I was too busy doing other things and was waiting for the right time to listen to this while doing other stuff instead
As much as I hate ads, and maybe once in a blue moon will subscribe to someone on patreon. I think y’all should do both because you guys are probably my top 5 on my TH-cam rn
I personally don't factor at all the different forms of monetization, if there's a 1$ tier I'll chip in to offset my use of ad blocker; but it depends on my financial situation and what the benefits are to go further. I.e Art patreons or patreons that provide some kind of assets I can use for my D&D campaigns or game projects.
8:18 Honnestly, you could do something similar to Adeptus Ridiculous which is if you have an ad that week you dont advertise the patreon, but if there is no ad read than you talk about the patreon instead.
I would love this podcast and would love for you guys to keep making it as long as possible. I personally do not have the disposal income to pledge to a patron so I would be totally okay with ads.
Patreon is the way to for this, I think. I don't think people (myself included) really mind ad reads on podcasts that much, especially if they're always the same length and roughly the same spots, but can really break the flow for something like this, and it doesn't seem like you guys are fond of them here anyways.
I think doing ad reads until you can make enough through a patreon should be alright to do as long as there's a tier that allows people to help with removing the need for the adverts, it shows that you do have a goal in mind for the patreon itself
I've never cared about ad reads, since they started being a thing I've just ignored them and at some point just started using sponsor block, I don´t care that people make them, damn, if I could earn money by saying something I don´t care about to people that don´t care about it I would barely hesitate
As someone who listens from the RSS feed (which I assume is costing you a lot more to host than TH-cam), I'd definitely be among the first to shell out for a Patreon, especially if there's bonus stuff.
Pretty funny talking about Halo considering the massive leak with all the MCC stuff that is now on the internet and all that came out about it and how nothing will be developed on it now
was waiting for this to get uploaded to spotify and decided to just listen to the youtube upload instead and within 5 minutes it got posted to Spotify ...... how did they know...
yk, if i were to be working on the halo video, i’d want to categorize each kind of response and interview into different groups, and rather than losing a lot trying to average that into one story, tell each of those v e r y different stories and let the viewer understand how complicated it was too, this story can’t be linear and it shouldn’t, part of the charm to why it was so bad is the chaos in which it can be recalled, that adds to the story itself, it doesn’t remove from it if you really wanted, you could add poll-based questions on a wide audience of people who worked on infinite, so whenever you make a claim, you can put it up at the bottom of the screen saying how likely this claim is to be true, and by how many people agreed with it. the story just really can’t be done in absolutes, let the viewer decide what was and wasn’t
for midroll yt ads put as many as possible and just have timers u both can see that go off and be vaguely aware of them while ur both talking. there will just be a constant count down that will inevitably cut u off and u will spend mental energy preparing for when it will as u stare at the number go down while u speak. make sure its a very loud familiar alarm sound thats either from the ios or android alarm app and have it barely cut off in editing so u hear half a second of it before the ad takes over. make it seem as if time has passed during the ad break so it seems like u both took a break even if its just been the seconds u take to turn off the alarm. idk why i included that last bit becuz its such a nothing burger in practice but there's just some aspect of it i find funny just imagining it working like that behind the scenes p.s. i will also personally never experience the ads becuz of my ad block which makes these suggestions very ironic and i would apologize for that but i genuinely would rather just throw a buck or 5 at ya cuz it would be easier and better than the cents i would contribute over idk how many months and ads i would end up watching as an individual. if ur gonna sit on patreon idea for awhile please just set up a ko-fi rq in the mean time cuz i will genuinely promise to donate 2-5$ per ep release or something cuz this has genuinely been one of my favorite podcasts of all time lately. i straight up binged a couple eps i never listened to before the other day. i feel stingy after typing out this promise i should honestly be giving more within reason and my budget, i just really like this podcast
Please Mr.Noodle man and Mr.Noodle Sam, doing a reading of the Halo Infinite video would be a great episode of the podcast and it might be a really good opportunity to attract new listeners
just a note, we can see when a new video is about to go up because it shows up as "private video" in the playlist. i saw this one yesterday (saw it listed as private video, couldnt watch it) i doubt anyone involved cares about us knowing when youre uploading a new video a little in advance tho
At this point I accept ad reads (no matter how shitty the company) as a nessacary evil of content creation. As a viewer, I do not care what is being advertised to me (I will not be buying), all I care about is people I like being paid (especially if the ad reads are entertaining). (I agree that no more ad reads would be a good patreon goal too.)
I think if you respect your audiences intelligence you can take money from even the shittiest corporations knowing no one to very few members of your audience will fall for it and you get to mooch away some of their profits 💁♀️
Anyone who complains about a creator reading an ad to be able to eat while they consume the content that creator produces for free is an idiot. Plug some ads, please eat food.
NICHE?!???? we big. - No seriously though ad-reads are non bothersome, patron is a good option too, but I agree that caking both is a little much. Personally prefer ad-reads.
Halo Infinite video sounds like a video series that gets released as it gets done! Sounds like some projects I've worked on outside of the game industry... Too many teams and too large of an org to make succinct decision making.
I've never thought about a channel having sponsors and a Patreon as 'double dipping'. To me, they are just different ways of earning the same income. Though, I do support a lot of Artist on Patreon so they tend to no have large channels or channels at all.
It's my favourite podcast where the boys talk about a funny picture I can't see.
The number of viewers has stopped going down, huge ramifications for the podcast lore.
scientists are crying and sobbing
I like Julian's suggestion of doing ad reads til the Patreon is profitable. That seems fine, and funny!
I agree. Maybe even make it a patreon member goal
I think it would be funny if the tiers were like
1. Don't be a corporate sellout
2. Be able to feed ourselves
we invented Sponsorblock to solve this problem :)
I agree with this also
This is what podcasts will look like in 2005
Sam explaining how he scale creeps Noodle in the same episode he scale creeps Noodle is GOLD.
Parasocial relation strengthened : )
I was scared for a few second that my very pertinent and interesting question would be over-shadowed by the funny picture we couldn't see.

THE BEAT KICKS THEN I START RAЯ 🗣️🔥🔥
You don't understand, these intro jingles at the beginning give me life
WWOOOOO
I personally dont care if you guys do ad reads, just make them funny. I would totally support a patreon too, assuming there was a teir I could afford
lol i'm still flabbergasted that the ad break for the most recent video was literally jingling keys
What they're describing in the later half about the Halo Infinite script sounds an awful lot like the movie "Adaptation" by Charlie Kaufman. He famously took a book that was supposedly impossible to adapt into a movie and made it a character study and a movie about writing itself.

@johannesviljoen9656 hey that's more content for me to consume
The experiences explained on this podcast are the ones that most closely mirror my own artistic experiences and ways of working and I don't know how worried I should be
Julian you're doing it again, now i REALLY want that halo video, i neeeeed it
Thank you sam, for pushing him into a such an interesting story, pls consider it

I NEEED ITTTT
The idea of a patreon goal being the end of ad reads is pretty cool in theory, but I am also a big fan of your transition clips and their early 00s commercial vibes
25:58 is why i listen to this podcast. we get to be on the cutting edge in the world of fucked up video-essay-ism
Love the ad reads on the Noodle channel, wouldn’t mind at all
You might be the only co-hosts on this planet i might trust with making add-reads funny.

this is julian
i think i might, thanks for the recommendation
19:16 NOODLE MY BABY I'M SO SORRY FOR ASKING SUCH A TOUGH QUESTION 😭😭😭
I've been dealing with A LOT of creative blocks and i had to ask my fav creator. i literally jumped 😭
every time i see the channel name in these titles i keep thinking that this is gonna be the last episode lmao
As a consumer of Noodle content and especially these podcasts I can say that I personally am totally fine with y'all doing sponsorships. You do what you gotta do to make that money, and I'll respect it, as long as it's not a product that sucks ass.

Can’t you guys just do a radio ad break skit for Hello Fresh or something? I’d find that hilarious and you’d get money!
paying billy in wet cat food
Lads take the money, I love this podcast and would like more of it. Shill till your hearts content
Honestly more people need to be as picky as you guys are about ads and I think it would make both the products and the ads better.
personally i don't really mind ad reads, usually it's just a good few double taps and on with the day, if it's funny enough (which yours are pretty funny) i'll let it through. patreon don't really bother me much too unless it starts gating content but it's not too bad. gotta make the bag
I'd watch the halo script 20 years from now. Let it cook. 💛
Billy is paid 4 dollars per decahedron and I think that's agreeable
Every time I watch this podcast I think "wow that not noodle guy sounds like Jon Benjamin (bobs burgers)
Koffi is also a great alternative to patreon
honestly id take ad reads over midrolls if it was more consistent for you guys
19:18 is an insane question combo LOL
intro is fire and so is ending on that question lmao
when it comes to monetization id probably just do ad reads i like the uninterrupted experience of hearing u guys ramble but stuffs gotta be paid for so
As the audience, get your bag. I know what I like and I'm ok suffering an add that directly supports that. If you have to read, "I like audible" 25 times to make this work, c'est la vie!

A patreon goal, to stop adreads sounds fun
I have joined patreon in the last five minutes SPECIFICALLY to check multiple times every day for this podcast to show up (this is not a joke)
This is the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Would love a Patreon. My need for completely unlistenable podcasts is that which, the more up my alley said podcast is, the less likely it will be profitable. I am locked in an accursed hell of my own making. I'd happily trade a fiver for this breath of... air.
Im madly in love with this podcast and i think you should monetize in any way that keeps this shit going
Hey man, I just wanna hear more of the two goobers talking about stuff. And also eventually the release of six fm....
the beat kicks and i start raar

It took Robert Caro 7 years to write The Power Broker, when can we expect the book about Halo Infinite's development?
I think if you respect your audiences intelligence you can take money from even the shittiest corporations knowing no one to very few members of your audience will fall for it and you get to mooch away some of their profits 💁♀️

BAG TALK PODCAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who complains about a creator reading an ad to be able to eat while they consume the content that creator produces for free is an idiot. Plug some ads, please eat food.
these two canmot be allowed food, can you imagine if they were Properly Nourished and not fed Pure Black Mold spores?
NICHE?!????

No seriously though ad-reads are non bothersome, patron is a good option too, but I agree that caking both is a little much. Personally prefer ad-reads.
Halo Infinite video sounds like a video series that gets released as it gets done! Sounds like some projects I've worked on outside of the game industry... Too many teams and too large of an org to make succinct decision making.
Yay more podcast!
you deserve all the money
Over 3 listeners!
Maybe you could try to make the ad reads entertaining like in Noodles normal videos
The Halo video is Noodle's Detox
Ad reads are fine, get that money king(s)
I don't really care either way on the ad-read/patreon topic. I just want Billy to be sicko freak rich.
why, why not in apple podcasts or spotify yet? i refuse to pay youtube so i can listen with my phone off 😔
Insstead of Ad reads, why not merch? I'd buy an enamel pin you guys put some effort into
Or instead of enamel pins, you could do buttons
You welcome
I've never thought about a channel having sponsors and a Patreon as 'double dipping'. To me, they are just different ways of earning the same income. Though, I do support a lot of Artist on Patreon so they tend to no have large channels or channels at all.
Theres a patreon? How was i supposed to know I always tune out adreads subconciously.
A patreon would be good but I want an option to put something like "sponsored by" on the video in the background
