    I've *loved* so many alternative helmets until I rode with them for 30 mins. I hope your HJC experience is 100x better than mine throughout the years, especially on higher speeds with that bottom detent as well as the outside side pins. Definitely loving your videos though, so please don't take this to heart.

      I had heard elsewhere that some people experienced a whistling sound, but I didn't find that. I had it up to 85MPH on a naked bike and it remained quiet. Maybe it was the older RPHA that had the issue?

    The knob on the outside is not for adjusting the pinlock. It’s for layered tear offs that go on the outside of the helmet for when you are racing. That way any bugs or kicked up dirt gets on it you don’t wipe the visor, you just rip off a layer and you are good to go.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, somebody else mentioned that. I've never seen them on the road, maybe it's more of a track day kind of thing.

    Yesterday I was going to shop for buy RF-1400 but i buy RPHA 11. I feel more comfortable, fit and coming with both visor. That's really nice.

      I've had mine for a few years now, and it's been a great helmet!

    You mentioned about the pin lock adjustment screws on the outside.... I just want to let you know that they are for tear off visor strips that go on the outside of the visor for track racing so when you get bug splats you can tear off the film and it leaves another clean film you can tear off when it's dirty when racing also this is a road and track focused helmet hence the tear off screws aswell as the pin lock on the inside

      Yeah, somebody else mentioned that too. Obviously I don't spend too much time at the track!

    Those are tearoff posts for visor tearoffs.
    The padding is baked with silver ions to make it naturally anti-bacterial

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tear-off posts? Huh. I just looked up, apparently you need to buy the sheets from Shoei! I've been trying to find an additional pinlock insert for the RPHA 11 shield, but so far I'm striking out in the US. Not sure why, but they don't seem available.

    • @tony_omaye
      @tony_omaye 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tinderboxarts try revzilla. They have the pinlock inserts for the HJ-26 visor, which is what the RPHA 11 uses.

    nice video very informative, my question is the ventilation good? because I easily sweat

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The venting is not, like, a wind blast. It's more diffused and gentle, but effective. However, if you ride a bike with a big fairing and windshield, the venting will be less effective. On my naked Bonneville I can actually feel the vents on my scalp. On my BMW RT, I don't feel it unless I have my sport windshield all the way down. So, it's probably most efficient on a sport oriented bike with your head down. That said, I haven't had complaints compared to other helmets I've owned.

    What was your older helmet. I'm thinking of getting this but coming from an i10 I wonder if it is worth it.

      My previous helmet was an HJC FG-17. Not a bad helmet, but I wouldn't go back.

    Do you still have it? How does the matte finish hold up? Does it get crappy overtime?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still have the helmet and it's my main one. The matte finish holds up fine, but of course the helmet gets dirty like any other. There are plenty of bug spatters. As far as scuffing, it holds up at least as well as a glossy helmet. Maybe better, since a scuff doesn't really stand out as it does on a glossy finish.

    Was it very easy to remove the logo? I'm slightly worried it will chip off over time.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the helmet has a matte finish, the logo is usually just a thick sticker. Poke at the edge with your fingernail and it will come up easily. If the helmet is a gloss finish, though, the logo may have a clear coat paint over it and it cannot be removed.

    My head is 55.8cm. The guide tells me to get a S, but I’m doubting if I maybe need a XS. I tried on the S and it felt great, but there was a little bit of space; I was able to rotate the helmet up and down quite a bit. When shaking my head from left to right there was also a bit of delay in the helmet because it was’nt completely as snuck. Then I tried on the XS, but it felt exactly the same. In the store they told me that was because it has been in the store for quite some time; the materials got smaller due to fitting so many different heads. The S is from 54-56cm and the XS is from 52-54cm, and my head is 55.8cm. I wasn’t able to find a store that had both the XS and the S as new demo’s. Anyone got some tips for me? Maybe buy both and return one of them?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm writing this from memory, but I believe you can buy different cheek pads for better fit from HJC. It may be that the overall helmet size isn't your issue, but that you need larger cheek pads. Retail stores may not have this option, but check with HJC directly.

    • @James-uz9se
      @James-uz9se 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tinderboxarts so what you're saying is that the helmet itself differs from size depending if you buy a S or a XS? I thought it was just the padding that is different. Could you confirm that?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I'm not sure about the XS versus S shell size, actually. But I just mean that I think they offer different padding sizes so you can fine tune your fit. So, you find the shell size that seems to fit best, and then you change out the pads if you need to. It may well be that the XS and S shells are identical and just the pads are different. Don't trust the retail stores guys, though--better to message or chat HJC and see if they can sell you different pads or not.

    • @James-uz9se
      @James-uz9se 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      tinderboxarts The S and the XS have different padding sizes 9mm vs 12mm, and 40mm vs 45mm. But I don’t know if the shell has a different size too. And if you can make an XS from an S by ordering different paddings. What do you think?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't know for sure, but it does make you wonder if padding is the only difference between the XS and S sizes. It sounds like you need thicker cheek pads either way. Check with the company, but it's also possible that this helmet is just not a good match for your noggin!

    Is it pretty quiet?

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I already have hearing loss so I'm probably not the best judge, but, yes, it is quieter than other helmets I've owned. I'm sure with more money you could find a quieter helmet, but I would think the RPHA 11 is about as good as it gets in this price range.

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to my wife, it's big. A very big head. I measure about 22 inches circumference. Of course, the shape of your head makes a difference too, so don't put too much emphasis on measurement.

    how did you take off the logo and sticker, Thanks

    • @tinderboxarts
      @tinderboxarts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to be careful--on the matte finish helmets you can easily remove the sticker by catching the edge with your fingernail or a similar tool and pulling upward. The sticker residue comes off easily with Goo Gone or similar. However, if you have a gloss finish on the helmet then the sticker probably can't be removed. They spray a clear coat over the sticker and you would leave a mess if you peeled off the sticker.
