That long take followed by her walking back and then crying in her husband's arms was phenomenal and a perfect ending for the film, it really got me, I can remember being in the position of the man and having to say goodbye to a close friend who I can't meet again.

@darkel2 I wasn't going to see this film although the trailer intrigued me, but I got a free ticket from Showcase and decided to satisfy my curiosity. As an immigrant, that migrated to the US at a very young age like Nora. It quickly stood out to me that the movie was not necessarily a love story. To me it was about the struggle of Nora with her identity. It's a beautiful film because it can be interpreted as a love story or a story about the struggles with your identity. Loved it!

My interpretation is that Nora chose herself the entire film. It was her decision to cut off contact with Hae Sung when they were 24 years old that led to the situation. They had a chance to be together and see each other then, but she decided that being a writer was more important to her. Then when he shows up 12 year later, she feels conflicted about her decision because her Korean side has been reawakened and she remembers who she was in Korea and realizes she is still Korean at heart. Nora can't be a writer in New York and be with him at the same time because he doesn't belong in New York. He belongs in Korea. When Nora cut off contact, she was basically choosing her writing career over him and put him on her waiting list. Hae Sung may have realized that he was just a backup option by the end of the film and leaves without asking her to be with him in this lifetime. He will probably be able to move on with his life realizing that Nora isn't the same person he remembers anymore, and Nora will be haunted by what could have been. In many ways, she feels stronger about Hae Sung than her husband, but she definitely likes being in New York more than Korea. So she chose to stay in New York for her career and to be with the person that fits in with her chosen life in New York.

The film was imperfect, realistic and almost true to life for our generation, when YM, Skype were still a new thing to connect and reconnect. Brought out so many bitter and good memories, and I am glad I get to close the chapter of this book in my life and finally move on with contentment and closure.

Maybe more movies should be shot on film🤔
2:14 I felt this quality of precision throughout the movie.

This movie was sad. I felt their pain of longing for each other and regrets. I felt Arthur’s pain as well. I have to admit, there were some scenes of stillness that I had to fast forward through.

We just went to the cinema with our friends. Were informed briefly about it but the film left us speechless. Blown away by it. There are so many things to think and discuss about. For us best film of the year so far.

Such a beautiful film. Like it's been said in numerous interviews, the film will mean different things to different people. The sadness of what could have been based on the choices we make in life just really hits home. Celine has made a masterpiece. The last Uber scene where little is spoken between Nora and Hae Sung speaks volumes of a lifetime reduced to a single fleeting moment. There is so much love in this film. My favorite film of all time.

I know this film doesn't really "require" 4K, but it'd be nice to have a 4K release for future proofing. Especially since the movie was shot on film, this would look so good on 4K 😢
