European here. It's funny that bilingualism is treaded as a "weird experience", whereas most people around me are fluent in 3-4 languages. I speak 6 and work in 3 languages daily.
I think the awkward moments were so realistic and really made this movie a 10/10. Perfect casting and the storyline is so good. I can't get over the last scene where she just says sorry and cries as he leaves while hugging her husband. so raw and authentic. 10/10.
As an Asian, Seth Meyers is one of the few talk show hosts I can fully trust to not make insensitive jokes about our culture or act disrespectfully when having Asian guests. I can't get enough of his shows.
I sat stunned in the theater afterwards, sobbing. I had a relatable situation with a boy growing up, except opposite perspectives in the relationship from the movie. It really impacted me.
That’s the wonderful and horrible thing about love. Sometimes it can last a lifetime or just a few moments but the most important thing is that you had that experience with the person-an experience that most will never have in a lifetime.
In The Netherlands there is actually a TV show called Memories where believe it or not; people go looking for their old romances (cut short) which is lovely and sometimes a little awkward with family involved. Closure is so healing though
I've seen this film in the cinema three times - each time I see something, and each time I leave the cinema so moved and holding back tears... She is ace, funny, charming and emotionally engaged. ... I hope she gets all the roles and win all the awards... The film is pretty special
I want all the successes for Greta Lee, she's great at her job and really fun in interviews! Specifically I want to see her play a fast talking new york cop
Just saw film this last night. It’s a devastating movie in lots of ways, but it is also the kind of sober realization of what life is that is necessary to counteract the typical romcom happily ever after, which is hard to take seriously.
I think Past Lives has to be my favorite movie of 2023. It was so realistic and bittersweet. I cried. I laughed. I smiled. I got lost in thought. It was just perfection.
Looking back at my favorite films of the year, it's interesting to note that Greta Lee is in two of them. Past Lives and Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse.
I loveee her commitment to the accent! I moved to the US from Mexico in my late teens and even though I’ve gone back and forth and I still speak Spanish pretty frequently, I can’t help but always think of the subtle ways my accent might have changed over the years.
The movie was absolutely beautiful. It *is* a tear-jerker. I had a similar experience - which is why I watched the film. I was hoping for a different outcome than the one which occurred, but the real one gave the film incredible depth and meaning.
This movie touched my heart so realistically and bended my mind in such a provocative way at such a unique and needed time in my life which couldnt be more divine of an intervention for me. Ive been so hung up on this one girl for the past few months that I met online who lives in China and Im from the U.S. Everyday it drives me absolutely crazy how much I cant stop thinking about her and all the what ifs. I even told my therapist a few weeks before watching this movie "Maybe in another life yeah, haha, I mean its literally another life so of course anything could happen". I needed this closure because this girl has been haunting me to the point its all i think about all the time. I rarely ever talk to her even though i could more if i wanted to. I only say something to her if i think its important enough. All the little connections weve had together are so surreal that my brain keeps replaying them over and over. We had one conversation that got pretty deep about ambition similarly to this movie. She said she was probably just going to be normal after i said Id never be normal. I even went on to tell her shes already not normal later after re realizing how absolutely stunning, bubbly, funny, and vulnerable she really is. I know ive gotten through to her and influenced her on certain things but shes just not meant for me. Im 26 and its time for me to take life serious and stop with all the wishful thinking. Shes 21 and living her life as much as she can. I have to give her that. After all, im just some white guy she met online lol.
So much talk about crying in this movie, and it IS emotional, but it's not A Sad Movie!!! Don't Not-See this because you think it's a downer! My favorite movie of the year.
I lost most of the french I grew up speaking. No big woop unless my Mom hears me struggle through a sentence after fighting my Dad to keep me in french schools for years. Then it's a whole 'thing'.
I've been waiting so long to watch this, but as a new mom, it's hard to get 2hours away so thank you Singapore airlines for putting it on their list, im just going to watch it on the way back again, hopefully in one sitting.
Terrible choice for a promo clip. The whole movie builds up to that moment and means so much more after watching the first 90 minutes. It feels like a giant spoiler alert for the film...
I guess she was talking at some point, and I'll have to go back and watch this again to hear what she said, but she's just so jaw-droppingly beautiful that the whole time I was just looking at her ears and fingers and well shucks I'm just gollyjabbered.
It is bit weird that she didn't get postive feedback from her parents doing movie in korean. Most of parents will be so proud what she is achieved and celebrate her heritage.
No no. It is close to the end, but not the end. This movie is really raw, your emotions will go all over the place. I found myself holding my breath for long periods of the time. You have no idea where the next scene takes you, but it all feels so incredibly authentic. But you may have seen the movie by now though.
Parents are immigrants. I was born in the US of A. Told for years as I was growing up here, that we'd leave the US to go back. Supposed to have gone back when I was 12. But we didn't. I wonder sometimes how my life would have been if I left at age 12 as was originally planned. My whole life would be so different.
I think the male actor’s acting was really good. I really felt the longing and sadness in his eyes and the way he talked.
I’m with you.
crazy how that guys a german korean
He definitely should have said…you know I’ll always love you right at the end….something!
Both of them "spoke" a lot with their eyes. That's part of the beauty of this movie. What a movie!
I love how she speaks about bilingualism. It's such a weird and fluid experience. Most days I feel like I don't speak any language fluently anymore
I also speak a dead dialect with my family, Hakka Chinese. Soo that's wonderfully useful and occupies my limited language ability.

As an Asian, Seth Meyers is one of the few talk show hosts I can fully trust to not make insensitive jokes about our culture or act disrespectfully when having Asian guests. I can't get enough of his shows.
This. Jay Leno had Sandra Oh 3x as a guest; each time he'd ask "So where are you from?" 😑
Well, it is a (lazy) way to start a conversation...
One of his writers is Korean-American. Karen Che. I think that is her name.
Also Ellen times 923843. When she was being cancelled for being a horrible person, I was like oh white people, you're all just now realizing this?
Looking forward to the day when all nationalities are respected and held in high esteem. Why not?

Such a talented, humble, and funny woman. I hope her career continues to "take off"; she's one Hollywood person who's easy to root for.
I watched this (Past Lives) on an airplane and I cried. Wonderful movie.

She is such a great actor.
Greta Lee deserves an Oscar for past lives and an Emmy for her work on The Morning Show
🤔🤐🤨 the move was boring...a 6/10~. an oscar...NOPE!

When an actor articulates the emotional core this well, I decide that I must keep an eye on them long term. Greta is a win.
I loved Greta Lee in Russian Doll - I have tried to watch everything she's in since. Her work in PAST LIVES is fantastic. A brilliant actress
😂 "Dehydrating experience." I'm gonna use that now whenever I cry in movies... and I cry easily. 😅
This is a beautiful movie! I was lucky to catch it in the theater, but I think it would be lovely on the small screen
This is the most relaxed I have seen her when interviewed for this movie, so wonderful to see.
She was the same way on Kimmel. Very relaxed
Honestly one of the best movies of all time. Indescribably deeply beautiful. It better win Best Film oscar.
Greta’s parents are peak Asian parents and I love the anecdotes haha

She's so beautiful..😍🥰
I'd love for her to write a script and expand on the kimjang incident. Then cast Sandra Oh as herself!
Give Greta Lee a Best Actress Oscar nomination. Celine Song’s film left me with this intoxicating nostalgia and wistfulness for days on end.
Watched it on the plane. Wept. Really wonderful movie.
The end of Past Lives hits the same way as the end of Call Me By Your Name. If you know, you know 😢
Love this movie, and the way it was shot in film??? The ending left me bawling.
I cried throughout the whole movie. Never seen something so emotional
Bilingualism is a true gift, Americans have always taken other languages for granted.
100% agree
Wonderful film and I hope she gets the Golden Globe for her role. She's great in the MOrning Show, too.
She unfortunately didn’t 🥺
I myself watched Past Lives on a plane and wept violently lol it was so fucking good
What a gorgeous, elegant actress
She's just the greatest guest!

She seems like she can be anyone’s best friend. Like she would make anyone feel comfortable

I have to think that anyone that recognizes Greta Lee on the street would yell, "Sweet Birthday Baby!"
