AWESOME Thank You! What a trip down memory lane! I am watching this on a linux install on a flash drive that took about 10 minutes to download and install, and it runs everything seamlessly. I remember the feeling I had looking at the stack of floppies for 3.11 and that shiny new win 95 box.....😁
in ~35 minutes (sorta) this virtual PC went from several versions of Windows earlier than I've ever used (my first was 95) to newer than what I have now (still 10), that's kinda nuts
Windows 98SE was really the point where windows became Windows as we know it today with usb support and everything. You could still use it today and it would work just fine and people would know how to use it. They would just have to make programs compatible with it. That's all. It's like nothing has chanhed since then except the superficial look of it. But it's still same old, same old.
@@marioluigi9599 Unfortunately, it only natively supports up to 1 gigabyte of RAM, or 3.5 gigabytes with a memory patch. If there was a 64-bit and secured re-release of 98SE, maybe it could be used as a modern classic operating system.

I have no doubt whether you can have Windows from 1 to 3.x at the same time, in the same hard drive/partition, but is it possible to have all Windows 9x at the same time in some tricky way, also together with the ones I have mentioned earlier? I learned that MS-DOS 6.22 and later cannot support earlier Windows, but to run Windows ME you need MS-DOS 8.0, and MS-DOS 8.0 is Windows 3.x compatible, I know.

@@KalphalusKal Haven't used VMware much, but from what I can remember, the UI is a bit different, you can only add RAM in multiples of 4 megabytes, and I think VMware Tools supports (or used to support) Windows 9x guests. Might try it again sometime soon.

Do you have a legal copy of all these operating systems? And also i got a pro tip for you: In virtualbox when you open an OS you can click rigth ctrl + F and it will turn your OS into fullscreen mode!
@@memelian4 I just mainly used generic keys; ones that let the user proceed with the installation, but do not activate the OS. Also, I did use fullscreen mode with resolutions of 1280×1024 pixels or higher. The reason I didn't with smaller resolutions is because the status bar doesn't appear in fullscreen mode, so I can't see disk activity.
These compilations show to me a big issue with Linux. I still haven't come across anyone doing an update run from a version that's 10yrs+ to a recent one. Because something always breaks :(
I did that at work a while ago with Ubuntu 10 or 11 to 22.04. Basically no issue: you need to redirect to the archive servers for apt to resolve packages. also the older systems didnt have a release-upgrade mechanism. so you just change the distro name in /etc/apt/sources.list to one newer, and run apt upgrade, reboot, done. in between, you need to pay attention to the many questions apt asks wether to replace config files or not, and sometimes adjust by hand after the installation to incorporate new defaults. but its doable. after ubuntu 14.04, it was really only doing do-release-upgrade multiple times.
10+ years? I don't think I've ever had a distro install last more than a few months before I break something and just want to (*cough* have to) do a new install lol

@@Icywhisker Maybe it's just me lacking in that area of technological literacy, but I didn't think Windows 10 would like it if I switched to UEFI after I had installed it on a regular BIOS-capable system.
@ChloekabanOfficial there is a command you can run within a bios booted windows 10 installer called MBR2GPT.exe - you can't run the command in UEFI. After converting the disk to gpt, it will boot right up in a UEFI boot
@@salatwehr4099 Since the original upgrade VM refused to accept a 64-bit OS, I ended up having to attach the original VM's hard disk to an existing VM with 64-bit support and install 64-bit Windows from there. Afterwards, due to me inadvertently messing things up by adding snapshots to the VMs, I ended up forcing myself to clone the VM that I had attached the original VM's hard disk and installing Windows 8.1 64-bit to. Then, on the cloned machine, I booted from the (also-cloned) Windows Upgrades hard disk to check if 64-bit Windows 8.1 was working. After verifying that it worked correctly, I removed the other cloned hard disk. Needless to say, it was a hassle and it probably ruined the legitimacy of my run (which I also complained about in the video in small-text), all because I didn't want to quit after reaching Windows 8.1 (and becoming an example of the sunk-cost fallacy). Apologies for the inconvenience (and for doing all that just to not have to restart from the beginning again).

@ I doubt it. Windows doesn't seem to support properly upgrading from the 32-bit to the 64-bit edition of the same version normally, as far as I can tell.

Does disk img come when installing os or do you have to install it
As far as I know, you have to obtain any .img or .iso files containing an OS before installing to a virtual machine.
