all cameras in my house are on specific VLAN and they have NO access to internet. The firewall is flooded by the requests from these cameras... - no way - you better stay inside my LAN only my dears ;-)

I do not have a doorbell, but I do have Wyze cameras with their default OS stripped out & them just running with RTSP protocols. And they connect to a RPi4 running MotionEyeOS. Or I can call up any camera from any Google device with a screen from anywhere that has access to the internet. They're a must if you own a dog & skunks live in your area, nothing worse that dealing with a pet that been sprayed by a skunk at 3 am in the morning, you'll be spending the night washing your dog until mid morning.

@@dvuemedia I think you could still use a SD card, but I do know any reason why you'd want to. A 10 TB hard drive are less then $200, & that would be a lifetime of camera's video feed only recording when it'd been triggered by movement.
And there are walkthroughs on TH-cam on how to reflash the wyze cameras bios to be dumb, so they're password protected & RTSP only. Right now wyze cameras send all of their audio & video to China FIRST before sending/alerting you, & they make you pay for it. So FUBR
A SBC running MotionEyeOS will do the same thing for you locally & be completely in your control, & you can connect a Terabyte hard drive to it for storage so any video or audio record will be saved. MotionEyeOS can also be setup to automatically send any movement that sets off an alert to your phone, or even to your smart TV screen(s).
There are even videos on YT on how to add an external antenna to the wyze cameras to extend their range. And you can even set it up to do recognition, so it knows the difference between your neighbors cat & a bear in your backyard.

  • @SlinkyD

From my experience over the past, these recording systems are horribly insecure & the apps are worse. The app can usually be replaced with anything that can do RTSP, the cameras usually need a firmware upgrade.
Been that way since the BNC cameras days. The "security" settings are all there and turned on but all you need is a oneliner from a terminal to see video from somewhere random.

@@tiagoreis5390 once you don't allow cameras to reach internet, your app on your phone cannot see them. But since I use them with home assistant, they are exposed to home assistant so I can use home assistant companion app on the phone to see the cameras and to control them - I have access to home assistant remotely from my phone with some other means of protectintg the IoT at home

I have ring, no monthly or yearly cost. Better quality than this. Plus it hard wires no charging battery.
Ring can use your door bell chime in the house. So it works when internet is down.
The monthly cost you talk about is for a life time warranty on 3 devices. You don’t need it.
