  • For the past 15 years, composer Anders Jallén has been working on translating the text of The Declaration of Human Rights into an oratorio. I was extremely impressed by the scale of this project, Anders' perseverance and the way he has let this idea grow. The composition is finished and so far one part has been recorded. Nineteen singers and one spoken word voice over bring an unparalleled version of Article 12, about the right to privacy. This is part 8 of the complete oratorio Anders performs. It is Anders' dream to turn all this into a spectacular performance in the long term, in which music, singing and visuals reinforce each other on a stage and the various components can also be released separately as an educational project. I join his dream and as part of my concept Mini Music Movies we have created an 'art track' to inspire audiences and potential partners.
An art track is a simple form of visual movement that accompanies music, the intention is for you to be able to absorb the music without a story. It is a meditative form, the viewer can get into the stream of the moment and let his/her thoughts flow. In the art track you see an iris constructed of 8 layers. It represents a watching eye giving you a big-brother feel. The Declaration of Human Rights article 12 states that we all have a right to privacy, moments away from big broter. For the shape of the iris I used audio-reactive animation. Each layer of the iris rotates at its own pace and is connected to an audio layer with a group of voices singing. The voices control the erratic movement of a visual layer. When the voices sing, volume, tone and vibration create a movement pattern that responds to these three elements.
