i've never owned a drone before but decided to purchase this one based off your review. and i'm glad i did. 2 day shipping from amazon for $220 and thats with *2* extra batteries for a total of 3. i can confirm the 2 antenna are purely for "looks". they are useless and you can simply extend them and then pull them straight out, so i took mine off. the 5W is an amazing little drone and i have spent 4-5 hours flying it already and i just got it 2 days ago. i'm gonna look around for one of those faster chargers you mentioned in the review. to anyone looking for a nice beginner level drone thats packed with features, i can't imagine anything coming close to this one. if your using an SD card to capture video/pics, make sure you format the card to FAT32 before using it or it might not work. i'm using a sandisk 128gb ultra plus in mine and i had to format it that way before the camera would record to it.

Great tips and review! I recently purchased a Bugs 5W I did the propper calibrations and binding however after unlocking the motors for a flight it would not fly up. I noticed that the transmiter battery level was at two lines....could you tell me if that was the reason for it not taking off, thanks!
It could very well be that, if either the batteries of the transmitter or the drone are not properly charged (and have low power), the quadcopter should have failsafes to prevent take-off... Make sure that all the batteries are properly charged and that you are in a spacious outdoor area (where GPS signal can be established) and hopefully that will produce a successful take-off...
I can't use the feature like follow me mode or PoI mode. It show message on the app says "..not in hover mode" like displayed in 20:15 . how do you solve that ?
It needs a solid GPS lock (with sufficient satellites) for that… I believe it needs 8 or more satellites for that feature, so you simply have to be in a wide open area (with a clear view to the sky) and wait long enough to acquire enough satellites…

Thanks... there is a rubber stopper at the top of the transmitter that you have to slide out and remove and at that point, you can slide in the mounting piece and then I believe there is a ball and socket piece that simply connects together and that makes the second half of the mount and it should be all set…
The uploaded footage might have a few mild frame skips, but if you are noticing an excessive amount of lag, that may simply be that the video is buffering or loading from TH-cam…

Oh that simply means the control mode (whether the altitude stick is on the left or right). In the US, it is common for mode 2 (where the altitude stick is on the left and the rudder is on the right). In other places (like China) mode 1 may be more common (which is where the altitude stick is on the right and the directional control is on the left)...
Nice video footage! Really got me excited because I have a Bugs 5w on order from Amazon arriving in a few days. I'm so excited to take some aerial videos of St. Croix USVI! That’s easy: “iMovie” in the Apple iOS app store. It is free, has plenty of features, and works well with your iPhone 8 or iPad… You can buy an SD card adapter for your Apple devices and simply put the footage from the drone in there using the adapter and then edit it with iMovie...
If by ‘best’ you are referring to which model has the most advanced features, then probably either the Bugs 3 Pro or perhaps this one... MJX has three GPS models: * The Bugs 2 series (C, W, SE) * The Bugs 3 Pro (only) * The Bugs 5 (W) They also have The Bugs 8, Cyclone, etc. The Bugs 3 Pro is a powerful GPS drone that can take a GoPro-like action camera, has brushless motors, long flight distance & time, etc. The others are similar, but don’t mount GoPro-like action cameras. The Bugs 5W does have a remote tilting camera, which is great.
Hey great job man. I absolutely love that drone and cannot wait to grab one. I really feel MJX has stepped up their game with the product. If there is only one thing I can say I am surprised about is that the antennas are fake I think they were put on for cosmetic reasons but I think MJ asked definitely could have installed some good intent is never the less the range should still be 1000 m

Yes, it works (this is how I always charge my Bugs 5W). We’re simply using a better balance charger than the one included with the drone... That’s all that’s going on here...

If you are referring to the VR goggles where you insert your phone in, then yes, but if you are referring to 5.8 GHz Fat Shark goggles, then no (since it has a WiFi transmission, not a true 5.8 GHz video transmission)… You can get a standalone 5.8 GHz AIO camera and place it somewhere on the drone and use that instead… That’s a possibility...
I have not tried it in goggles (just on the controller mount) & it does well. I would only fly a true 5.8Ghz non-WiFi drone with FPV goggles (as the latency & breakup with those is minimal)...
I would recommend the 4W because the camera actually shoots in 2K (while the 5W shoots in 1080p) and the colors seem to be brighter and sharper… Also, the drone is more convenient (as it folds, is more compact, and has a set that includes a dual battery charger along with a case)…
Well you can always fly the drone without a phone (with GPS and even record video without even having a phone connected to it), but unfortunately if you want to use the FPV feature, you would need a relatively new phone that supports 5G Wi-Fi, if not, you will not be able to get the FPV video… But you can still fly the drone and record video…
Both the motors and propellers for this quadcopter should be available at either GearBest.com, TomTop.com, and/or BangGood.com. Changing them out shouldn’t be too difficult, simply un-screwing part of the fuselage and wiring them in should make the motor installation easy and the propellers simply have a special screw at the top that you simply un-wind and place them in and then tighten them back up...

The drone's app & 5g wifi video does work well with an iPhone 6, but has not been tested on an iPhone 5s. Online it does say that the iPhone 5s does support limited 5g wifi and I believe that phone model is new enough to support the 5g wifi of this drone, but I can't say for sure. I believe the drone’s camera only records video and does not have any audio… This is true for many new drones, as the audio would simply be loud propellers moving through the wind… Usually drone footage has a musical or narrative audio background…
