Would be cool to see a video on it maybe, I think it deserves to be showcased alongside mods like this and BTA.
If you haven’t heard of it already, the Authentic Adventure mod is another great total conversion mod. It’s a lot newer, but it essentially rewrites the adventure update into something more similar to what the playerbase expected when it was announced. It has some amazing terrain generation and overhauls a lot of structures and features. I’d recommend you check it out, and great video as always!
I prefer the way this mod does backporting features over how BTA does it. The way BTA does it is by making unnecessary changes just to be different, like, “Oh it’s not a hopper, it’s a funnel,” and “It’s not a banner, it’s a flag!” Where as the way Reindev does it is by picking and choosing what features feels natural, giving them a classic looking texture and giving them a new context.
BTA doesn’t really try doing backports at all, instead trying to find a different solution to the same problems. Though some features are inevitably pretty similar, they’re trying to find new ways to approach similar ideas, and a lot of features feel like very unique takes. I don’t think one method is better than the other, and there are definitely things that I wish BTA would backport, but I understand the devs’ vision and to chalk it up to lazy changes to make things stand out more is pretty reductive

Hey, I really enjoy these oldschool minecraft videos and the mod showcases for the older versions. I got myself into better than adventure recently and I've been really enjoying it. Great content
As a person among the first who datamined Dusk's Wendigo back in days when only Episode 1 was out, seeing them in Minecraft is both surreal and VERY scary and also very personal, in a weird way
The wendigo is seriously one of the best designed enemies I've ever seen in any game. I've played through Dusk a handful of times now, and I'll never stop having the biggest rush of "oh shit oh fuck what the fuck is this fuck" every time I hear the sound effect. Pretty sure I've heard the sounds in dreams before. It's just a part of my identity now.
Wouldn't mind seeing Dusk's Windigo as a separate mod for regular minecraft. Alot of enemies from Dusk feel like they could be implemented well into minecraft like the bone balls and black goats
@@NuculerToast I know that Lycanite's Mobs went after a lot of Doom engine shooters for monster ideas - Nether enemies obviously are from Doom, but there's a good number from Hexen, too. It can very much work!
Minecraft now, has just put so much in to exploration. Explore explore, find buildings and pyramids and whatnot, that I genuinely dont feel anything from it anymore. I miss the emptiness of the oldgen. Its more absurd generations. I like to know that somewhere out there, lay the farlands. I like making minecraft my own purpose rather than its purpose being mine. Of course, I think im far past the age where I enjoy minecraft now. Its moved past, and ive moved on. My interests change. But I know that my past joys and wonders and memories will be forever perfectly preserved in those older versions. It was fun while it lasted
For me it still carries the original fun of having and making my own worlds, its just that now a days, unless you are playing with people, coming across empty and abandoned structures kinda just makes you feel all that more empty as well. Like it isnt your world, youre just exploring what came after
The issue I have with more modern Minecraft versions is they have very little balance between emptiness and having structures or just simply an exotic biome. Imo it went downhill once they started making oceans "interesting" where you'd bump into shipwrecks every few minutes
I just found your channel today, couple hours ago, and I'm honestly hooked. Maybe it's because so far it's mostly well-thought and -written minecraft videos (though I'm starting the video on the simulators), maybe it's the style of delivery and personal touch you add to your videos, maybe it's the custom visual and audio style to the videos (and I'm loving seeing how things change and improve things in each video). Realistically, it's all of these factors working together. I'm inspired to check out some older minecraft versions and the mods that have been mentioned; I started playing in 1.4 I believe. I'm fond of the recent game, but it doesn't have quite the same touch as earlier versions. I'm excited to see where this channel continues to go!
It's really funny how Minecraft Mod Reviews have evolved from the days of hyperactive excitement overload to modern day video essays. Incredibly well done. This video has made me want to play the mod!
god i love your videos and your style keep it up my guy feel free to venture away from minecraft whenever u feel like it i will watch whatever you put out your stuff is so entertaining lmao
The amazing thing about minecraft modding community is how they can make a completley different game with minecraft and sometimes even an actual new game like Vintage Story!
Those new pickaxe material modifers is likely inspired off the aether, they had similar gimmicks, and I like that it adds more thought to simple things
I remember Beta 1.7.3 vividly, because We did not have home internet at the time, so i packed up my PC and took it to my Grandparents house, so i could download and install Minecraft. I was then able to use a USB drive and download mods at school and take them home to play and experiment with.
BROOO! I did the same thing, except i took that usb drive with all the mods and also had the actual game on it. Me and my friends would swap it around school and let people make copies, one time we even were able to upload it directly onto the schools computers so that everyone at school could grab it and play. Felt like an absolute king
decided after watching the first 5 minutes to go ahead and give this a try (no spoilers) and while i havent run into a lot of insane changes to classic indev since ive only been playing for about 10 minutes, thanks for making this video. playing this and exploring old minecraft for what it is made me vividly remember my first time playing minecraft on the xbox 360 demo when it first came out. missed this feeling
Insanely good find Bingus, I would never have heard of this if not for you. Early Minecraft might not beat out tech mods for me as my preferred way to play, but I can imagine spending a good few hours in this just trying to make something cool. It would be pretty funny to gaslight someone into thinking this was actually how Minecraft used to be.
It's easy to gaslight people, with the infdev and early alpha versions because of the insane amount of secret Saturday features that were removed by the next week if not the same day with a patch. Notch really loved to add random shit just so he could see how it looked in the game.
It feels like they're not afraid to use some of the more whimsical ideas that come, like giant beehives and skylands. These are some of the things I love most about terraria, how fantastical yet familiar things can seem.
I have always thought that Mojang not making Minecraft into a modular game is such a waste for what is one of the flagship titles for the sandbox genre. Activating or disabling different features should be a setting, allowing players playing with old world generation while keeping stuff like new minerals or mobs. If a mod can make it happen, Mojang could without a second thought.
I was so sad and let down when they removed Fog. I even stopped playing for a long while because it changed my experience so heavily. I played almost 100% with the closest fog setting, and it made my world stay mysterious and undoscovered. Features only a few dozen blocks away were interesting impactful and I had to connect my builds with clear paths to not get lost. It also made it necessary for me to think about my world in more mindful way. Try to remember what laid ahead or in my mind try to make out a map of what things really looked like. When I return to this save file now, more than 10 years later, there's no mystery and no ambience. It's almost silly how scary or intimidating some directions were to me bacl then, that is just a completely normal hill or pack of trees. The small area I claimed for myself and wandered around felt so huge, but you could fly past it in 2 seconds with an elytra. I would argue hard that it is not the same to keep a low render distance. For a long time I was the annoying friend that complained about the game removing a feature that made the game "less bad".
i don't know which I love more, "Hello, Bingus, I'm Chondo" or "Hello, Chondo, I'm Bingus," but I was delighted to hear it either way. Maybe alternate?
when you pulled out that cauldron and spawned the foxes i thought you were gonna reveal you were fucking with us the whole time and playing a modern version with a texture pack and just presenting modern features as if they were new and part of a mod for old minecraft
I think the reason that these old versions of Minecraft still have appeal today is because, unlike the current version of Minecraft, they feel complete and finished. Even though all of the features of old Minecraft are also in new Minecraft, most of that additional content is underwhelming and half baked. The new cave system, which changed the way the entire world was generated to accommodate it, only added 2 new cave biomes, leaving the caves to feel like they're still in development, when the old caves didn't have this feeling. Hell, the villagers are STILL being overhauled and developed, which were introduced to the game 12 YEARS AGO. They've felt unfinished this whole time. The End is still only one biome with 2 structures. And they keep adding half baked ideas that highlight how shallow most of it is. Mods like this show what could have been: a more well-rounded expansion of the original concept.
i love the new changes but as a classical pianist, chopin's piece in the ost is really jarring. it's like hearing your morning alarm in the middle of the day
You can't just wait 15 minutes in to mention that this uses cubic chunks! That opens up such massive opportunities! I can't wait to see where this goes as it continues development
my first introduction to minecraft was pocket edition, so the cyan rose and nether reactor core hold a special place in my heart. I remember using the reactor core as a floor block in creative houses because I liked how cool it looked this video really made me realise just how much I appreciate the old versions of minecraft

its so cool to see you here!!! i cant remember if i've been in the comments, but i've actually checked out your series! did you see that the reindev nether update announcement is coming up?
also, not to bug you (because im in the same boat lol) but do you have plans for another episode soon?
@@binguschondo lowkey feeling starstruck with your reply- i watched this vid like 4 times over this year just because it would get me excited to make some videos surrounding ReIndev. So thank you for the kind words.
Yes!! I did see the nether update!! Sadly i won’t have a video out on release!! But i definitely want to cover all of the stuff included and i think the community surrounding every mod and update is amazing! Its rare we ever get consistent updates out of MC mods nowadays - in response to the new episode-> I am very happy you want to see a new one 😳) but between you and I….. I’ve been cooking something new up for next week
@@binguschondo you are not bugging me at all I’m so glad you want to see another hahaha. Same for you I’d love to see another really high quality ReIndev coverage video from you. Also your illustrative footage transitions are genuinely like the most engaging thing ever lol
@@CJ2CUTE thank you so much for the kind words!! i'm looking forward to whatever you've got coming out!! i've thought about starting up a reindev series as a way to give more coverage towards this wonderful project, but haven't been able to make a lot of time for youtube. i hope to see both of us with some great new videos here soon :)
@@binguschondo amazing!! Well I can’t wait to see whatever fantastic content you produce and yes same to you!! If you have any suggestions for what you might like to see in the series (reindev content or otherwise) let me know!! I’ve got lots of ideas but i think I’m definitely missing features like the aether- so much to do!!
After watching this video a few weeks ago I joined the discord and have been playing on the public/anarchy server hosted by moderators of the discord every day. It's remarkable how the variations and additions of this mod not only add to the MC experience, but build entire new ways of playing the game. If you're on the fence about this mod but also really want a reason to play MC again, I recommend trying it out.
Hey, I really enjoy these oldschool minecraft videos and the mod showcases for the older versions. I got myself into better than adventure recently and I've been really enjoying it. Great content
As a person among the first who datamined Dusk's Wendigo back in days when only Episode 1 was out, seeing them in Minecraft is both surreal and VERY scary and also very personal, in a weird way
It’s coming for you in real life, too.
@@chrislaezur730 *brruuuhh*
Bringing the Wendigo's from DUSK is SO cool !! Even down to the noises !!
thank you for making this video. you've re-introduced me to my childhood memories in a way different aspect. looking forward to playing this. :)
The Dusk Wendigos are just. Such a good touch, and also horrific.
I'm excited to see where this channel continues to go!
been playing minecraft since i was 6 back in beta. you've convinced me to try this mod, it looks so fun! good video!
Absolutely love your channel, you’re a goat
I'll admit I was dubious... then I played it for 5 hours last night and am about to jump back in. I'd forgotten how much fun "old" minecraft was!
the Wendigo in the Fear section is cool. I didn't think porting the DUSK enemy would work that well
I LOVED the old beta world generation, with it's knife canyons and floating islands, overhang mountains that'd stretch for hundreds of blocks
It's really funny how Minecraft Mod Reviews have evolved from the days of hyperactive excitement overload to modern day video essays. Incredibly well done. This video has made me want to play the mod!
Beta 1.7.3 is an amazing build on its own. This is great!
This video was great! Thanks for letting I as well as many others know about this mod. I'm totally gonna check this out for myself later.
god i love your videos and your style keep it up my guy
feel free to venture away from minecraft whenever u feel like it i will watch whatever you put out your stuff is so entertaining lmao
The amazing thing about minecraft modding community is how they can make a completley different game with minecraft and sometimes even an actual new game like Vintage Story!
congrats on the milestone, and a great video like always!!
There's already a mod like this called "The Right Branch of Development"
That's pretty bold title if you ask me, cool
Felt like an absolute king
wtf is a bingus and/or chondo??
loved the vid, thanks for sharing this, I've been looking for something like this
decided after watching the first 5 minutes to go ahead and give this a try (no spoilers) and while i havent run into a lot of insane changes to classic indev since ive only been playing for about 10 minutes, thanks for making this video. playing this and exploring old minecraft for what it is made me vividly remember my first time playing minecraft on the xbox 360 demo when it first came out. missed this feeling
The Wendigos in The Fog are a lovely reference to Dusk!
I mean, ripping the most iconic enemy from DUSK sure is a move you CAN make. It is a bit lasy though.
This would be completely overkill but I would love it
Man your videos gives me Nes, Atari nostalgia and especially not beta this is Indev Minecraft which i got hit Hard by so much Nostalgia
I keep getting recommended Sir Bingus constantly.
I am not complaining, these videos are so well made.
Thank you Sir Bingus. Thank you.
thank you, warrior ducc
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindev.
i don't know which I love more, "Hello, Bingus, I'm Chondo" or "Hello, Chondo, I'm Bingus," but I was delighted to hear it either way. Maybe alternate?
just you wait
when you pulled out that cauldron and spawned the foxes i thought you were gonna reveal you were fucking with us the whole time and playing a modern version with a texture pack and just presenting modern features as if they were new and part of a mod for old minecraft
Not to mention *The Fog* also has herobrine attached to it
I think the reason that these old versions of Minecraft still have appeal today is because, unlike the current version of Minecraft, they feel complete and finished.
I remember using the reactor core as a floor block in creative houses because I liked how cool it looked
this video really made me realise just how much I appreciate the old versions of minecraft
The second I saw the cyan rose, I knew this was the real deal. It made no sense but I loved that flower
100k+ quality content. Making me want to go check out the ol' days of AdventureCraft too now.
10:15 that is straight up an enemy from Dusk by David Szymanski called the wendigo. The sound effects and behaviour are basically 1 to 1 the same
