Other channels are entertaining, but you two keep it real. I love watching this channel more than just about anything else on TH-cam. I'm just a low-middle-class dude, but I dream of sailing the Caribbean one day. You two really have something special going here, as I'm sure you know.
Thank you so much Carl! You're right, we do try to show all the sides of sailing and not just the party stuff. But to warn you, we do attend a few parties in St. Barths, haha.
The ocean side of No Name Cay has excellent snorkeling with vibrant coral heads a lots of sea life. Definitely the spot to snorkel if you're ever back in the area!
Love the Bahamas. we had a small blue water power boat with a tender to use and adventure with.... so many fun little spots and the people you meet are wonderful.
Matt & Jessica, great video! I'm not sure we're going to do a cover change demo at this point! Haha! You can't beat the music, water, sun and of course you two! Enjoy! Looking forward to a visit someday when you return. Always look forward to Sport-a-Seat photos in use! We also offer custom embroidery and logos too.
Ha! We had one blow overboard last night in a gust (first time for that) and it floated on top of the water just fine. A quick deployement of the dinghy, and we were off in search with our flashlight. Matt
Wonderful spot to take a break, I don't blame you for staying. Nice hike also. Question how many different mics do you use because when clip of beach w/hammock got real loud for some reason, but sounded so good.
I just purchased a sport-a-seat on your recommendation. I checked youtube as where I heard about it and they asked which channel but gave no place to put that information. I don't know if you get a kick back for the referral but they are not giving people a place to put it. Love your channel. very informative. I especially liked the dodger construction. I am a professional canvas maker but I don't do a lot of ocean going vessels. I mostly do awnings and runabout biminis. You gave me a few ideas. Thanks for your videos.
Good video !! Interesting boom tackle that I thought was a preventer and then you showed it still attached as you tacked (or jibed). The block-n-tackle rig looked like a cool idea for a preventer and a sail shape device. 😊🌸🌷🌹🌺🌻🌴🏝✨📚✏️🥂✨
Lisa, I really can't say enough good things about them. They aren't inexpensive, but with the use and abuse ours have received, they are well worth it. Matt
I saw you had these SportaSeats a couple video's ago & ordered a couple (before the $10 off coupon, oh well). I did reference your channel as where I saw/found them!!
A good cheap butt-pad and all around padding, insulation: Cheap yoga mats from Amazon. 1/4" are hard, like a bathtub no slip. Great for a kayak hull to keep the cold from chilling your feet, also for the footbrace. 1/2" is all around goto cushy. I have a 2' x 2' square I've back packed with, used as a door mat, for years, and 1" would probably do the butt part of what your cushions do. And whatever they're made up seems to hold up pretty good in the So. California sun. I also use them, sometimes doubled over as kayak seat pads, rolled up a back pad. Of course this is the déclassé option.
I had a small out board like that and it ran out of fuel and I was down wind . Knowing it was aboat out of fuel I just raised the motor and started rowing fast if you stopped it cost you about 30ft or so , after rowing about a mile I made it to the mothership .It was at that point I discoverd it had a reserve and by tilting the motor up it dumped the reserve fuel into the main tank area damn could have motored Just did no know .You might check yours
Terry, Thanks for the info Terry.... I'll take a look at that. I'm amazed at how little fuel this guy uses when putting along. Just an ounce or two would get us a very long way. Matt
Love your videos. Would be nice if you could normalize the audio though. Some parts are too low so I raise the volume but then other parts are way too loud.
This video had poor audio, I'm afraid. We pulled out our old camcorder with it's cheap microphone and we never checked the quality before using it. 😕 So this episode and the next one may not be great, but hopefully we won't have that issue after them.
Just spent the last week Sailing in the Bahamas with my father in-law. I couldn't believe the amount of beautiful clear/blue water. What a great place. Do you have any plans in sailing the Exumas?
Dean, we've done the Exumas two times already and loved them, but this time we wanted to go somewere we hadn't been. If you liked the Exumas, try getting down to the Ragged Island chain on your next visit. Amazing amount of coral and fish, plus almost complete seclusion unlike the Exumas. Matt
Watermaker is up and running just fine (need a new feed pump), but the outboard is still tied to the deck. Someday I'll get off my laze butt and fix that thing :) Matt
Those were some great drone shots in the first 2 minutes of the video and the last minute (both the intro/outro of Elements and the island shots). You are now considered partially responsibly for my desire to get a Mavic Pro or a Mavic Air.
I would really recommend going for the Pro vs the Air. We struggle often with wind trying to fly the drone and can only image how much more difficult it would be with the lighter and smaller AIR. Matt
Wind is a consideration of mine for sure. So far I've experienced light buffeting during a programmed Bebop 2 flight. I can't imagine going for anything lighter even if it was more powerful. I've heard the Mavic Pro 2 will be announced around April and it might be a good time soon to get a Mavic Pro on sale or refurbished. th-cam.com/video/0y-fUxFFJWg/w-d-xo.html
I like the pink snorkeling outfit, complete with pink trimmed fins ! Any ideas why there was no coral or sea life ? There might have been some fish around that wreck.
Jack, I really think it was us expecting coral heads all over like further South in the Bahamas chain. We've since heard a ton of good places to go, but of course, that was after we were there :) Matt
I love my little 3.3hp outboard. It's a 1996, has been dropped overboard and all other kinds of neglect, and still starts without issue. Now, our 9.9hp is a different story :( We've gone through a few camers, but this may be from a new lens. Matt
A wonderful video indeed for a man north of Boston....sitting at the helm station (my desk) with the outside temps in the teens and less than tropical breezes blowing at 20 knots. If I close my eyes, I can see myself up on your bow...thanks. I do have a question for you though. Many other sailors are reporting a dearth of fish and live coral. Have you observed this as a trend or just bad/ unlucky choices in dive spots?
Alan, Only in a few places have we returned to the same spots, so our observations are limited. In one area, we did note a complete change in only two years. But, due to the limited example, I cannot draw a conclusion. Matt
Cool, I hope you two did some snorkeling and spearfishing in the Double Breasted Cays, because it's a great place to do that at.. You can even get Lobster and conch, and then you could have some great conch salad.. lol.. Peace!!
Really enjoy your videos. Have you ever considered a meet up with Shaun and Julia Sailing or Shaggy Seas? This would be awesome for you all to cruise together for a week or more? Fair winds and following seas. And good luck with the fishing, try a diving lure. If you want send an email and give me a address to send you some!
We'd love to do a meet up, butunfortunately missed all the youtubers with our faster schedule. We're now in St Barts (1000 miles away from the Bahamas). Matt
Bungee cord works well too, but set-up was easier with the downrigger clip as it is always out. The line goes from a stern cleat forward about three feet to a downrigger release, then back out the boat to the lure. When the fish strikes, the release clip opens and lets the fish build up speed after they turn away from the boat. Taking up the slack, the fish sets the hook themselves. Matt
We like hors d'oeuvre sized fish :) J/K. Unfortunately, the coral around that depth was too far out with that outboard.... I really need to fix our 9.9hp soon! Matt
Not only are they in the Bahamas but their last video Billy was kiteboarding at Tahiti Beach where Matt and Jessica just came from. Just can't tell how much of a delay there is to edit and post the vids for each channel but I doubt their paths crossed.
We're about two months behind (on purpose due to wintering over in England for 2018-2019 and wanting to keep content coming) and I think Tulas is about real time. Matt
Good video! Also, be skeptical and cautious when approached by sociopaths and stalkers. What they present as fact is not necessarily true. You should report them to the police, they are criminals.
We don't know if we're looking in the wrong spots, or if the areas are being over-fished. It would have been nice to be able to get back to the Exumas and fish some of the same spots so we'd know for sure.
Did it appear that there had been coral and it died, or never had any coral? Some of the problems facing ocean life are the high acidic levels in parts of the ocean that are killing off the coral, which is where the kitchen for the fish is located. But I understand that there is no longer a threat to our oceans because climate change is just a hoax (pun intended).
@@MJSailing No Name Cay has excellent snorkeling - there's definitely lots of life in the area, but only in certain spots. When I was there, the locals suggested No Name or Fiddle for snorkeling and No Name did not disappoint
I was too cheap to pick-up an extra 1 gallon can when in the Abacos.... learned my lesson there and now have one in the dinghy always. (this isn't our first time running out of fuel) Matt
Jason, We would have loved to. We actually have mutual friends, and were only a few miles away from each other last month, but we were on our way out of Florida when we found that out. We are now 1000 miles South in St Barts. Matt
It turns out we took the SAME window from Palm Beach to the Bahamas on March 1st, but while our destination was the Berry Islands, theirs was the Abacos. Would have been cool to cruise together though.
Jess is friends with Ruby Rose, but we've yet to meet in person.... they are just a few weeks behind us. Shes now planning a get together when we get to England. Matt
Good stuff. I think you would also like Sailing Nandji, good peeps. I've sub'd over 30 sailing channels, in hopes within the next few years I can unload, sell the house and start sailing solo. MJ Sailing, Ruby Rose and Sailing Nandji are in my top 10, if just for the natural presence you all have:)

i must say those are nice seats! and durable. good to see you have fine weather now.
Brian, They really are a great product. One of the only things we HAD to keep off the last boat.
Matt
We loooooove those seats, and they've been put through a lot over the past 8 years.
Beautiful shots of paradise .... A very good episode... much thanks for sharing .... Cheers
Thanks David, we're glad you liked it!!
Thanks for the video. Keep having fun.
A little too much fun, lol.

Sport-a-Seat do the seats float?
They do but are not a flotation or safety device. Please check out our FAQ page. www.sportaseat.com/faq/
Ha! We had one blow overboard last night in a gust (first time for that) and it floated on top of the water just fine. A quick deployement of the dinghy, and we were off in search with our flashlight.

See that...Glad you recovered it. Nevin used to tell everyone that a length of cord etc. is great to keep clipped or tied to the handle just in case!
Nice view of the harbor from the trail point!
Thank you! Yes, we're so happy we found the trail that leads out there. 😍
Another great episode Matt& Jessica!
We like the sport a seats great value! Very versatile.
We have gotten so much use out of ours with these two boats, I couldn't imagine cruising without them now.

Awesome video, as usual, guys. Keep up the great work!
After seeing your recommendation for Sport-A-Seat I bought 4, in grey of course. Thanks

Only 30 days or so till they start splashing boats in Michigan! Your videos are great....Nice Adventure!!!
I don't miss waitng for our mooring to get installed so we could splash our boat each spring. I would go crazy waiting for them!
Matt
great video, always a treat to see, keep it up, safe travels and see you out there one day
I was wondering about not finding any fish? Is that normal? I love to fish. It’s nice to see couples enjoying each other.

We're not really sure.....we may have just been choosing bad spots.

Yeah... we were back to florida and on to the Caribbean as quick as possible.
Matt
Have you seen the YT Gone with the Wynns where Nikki painted all the pads in their cockpit with chalk based paint.
I've been trolling with a yoyo reel and a short piece of bungee cord. How to you use a downrigger release kit?
Bungee cord works well too, but set-up was easier with the downrigger clip as it is always out. The line goes from a stern cleat forward about three feet to a downrigger release, then back out the boat to the lure. When the fish strikes, the release clip opens and lets the fish build up speed after they turn away from the boat. Taking up the slack, the fish sets the hook themselves.

I wish my greatest concerns were if my fabrics on portable chairs matched, because I would have zero concerns at that point.
Remember those seat were in storage when you were working on the boat
Good video! Also, be skeptical and cautious when approached by sociopaths and stalkers. What they present as fact is not necessarily true. You should report them to the police, they are criminals.
Ha! I see you went to the Jason Wynn school of dingy rowing. ;-)
Except for Matt actually has a few muscles and don't have the upper body of a coat hanger.
SV Barry Duckworth Ha! Yeah, I think they could use Jason as a small blade jib!
Why do you think it’s void of fish and coral. Hurricanes??
Nice episode guys! Too bad about the sea life. That's disturbing to say the least.
We don't know if we're looking in the wrong spots, or if the areas are being over-fished. It would have been nice to be able to get back to the Exumas and fish some of the same spots so we'd know for sure.

Matts eyes only eh, how do do you think the other sailing channels got big subs!!?
What do you mean by 'big subs'... is that a euphemism for something dirty? :)
Matt
Were you ever successful spearfishing in 5 feet of water?
In the Ragged Islands of the Bahamas....yes.
If you see any lion fish why you snorkel or scuba dive spear it. It’s an invasive species that is getting out of control in the West Indies.
Yes, we try to spear them whenever we can, and they're a very tasty meal too! 😀
Well the absence of life has nothing to do with fukushima.
Go in with a camera and the fish come right up and wave to the lens. Go in with a spear gun and they all get lost.
Hope you guys run into Shaun and Julia Sailing or the Ruby Rose, you guys would get along famously.
