Some shallow water sailing through the berry islands. I set off from Little Whale Cay between two shallow banks in the lee of the Berrys, to find a deserted beach on the tip of whale cay. A perfect day.
I have the spars for a snark lateen rig. Just wondering - do lateen sails have draft or are they flat and the draft is provided by the slack between the upper and lower spars? Is the draft provided by curved edges or sewn into the seams of the sail?
If I understand your question correctly, the draft is provided by the slack between the spars. When you pull in the sheet, you're also pulling in the lower spar which take the draft out of the sheet.
I was sailing through very shallow water with banks of sand that would reduce the depth to around two feet. To avoid digging the dagger board into these banks I had to adjust the height. Not very common but necessary in these waters at low tide!
I really liked the skeg board. the handle and rope attached to it. I need to modify mine. great video, thanks for posting
I love when the rope came off. man your living the dream. I just bought my sunfish last week, and these are my plans
Gorgeous water. Love the sunfish, such a simple yet effective rig.
Fun video, I have reconnected with a Sunfish in my seventies. You should do more
Me too I've sailed all the great lakes except lakes Ontario 😢since the 60s, still do today, Thomas in Michigan 😂
Beautiful! We just sailed a couple days on the north side of New Providence on a Hobie Wave. Water wasn’t quite that pretty. Cheers, Chuck
Thanks for sharing with this old Hobie sailor!
Takes me back to my days as a teenager in the 1970s sailing Sunfish in Belize, Central America.
I must hand it to ya, swell job and video. Splendid sailboat indeed. For a bit, you were working...
Bow, Stern no life jacket video.
Very impressive
Ohh what a beautiful place to sail!! very nice!, ... I wish we had something similar here in west texas :( ..lol
It's nice to have a cleat for the boom line; it gives you a free hand when it's set... ( Do they come standard now, or are they an add-on item...?)
I added the jam cleat myself - absolutely crucial for longer trips
Thank you for sharing. It looks like a great place to sail and explore. Did you rent the Sunfish there?
This is my own sunfish. If you're lucky, somewhere on Chub or Little Harbour might have a place to rent

I don't understand the constant adjusting of the centerboard. Help me out?

Could I know where are you picked up your center board/dagger board?
The dagger board came standard when I bought the boat in Miami. It has definitely needed a few repairs over the years
I bought mine dagger board and rudder on Amazon all fiber plastic, love it wood didn't hold up 😢my boat is from the 70s still have it today ❤
What kind of block do you have?
Nice!
Sailing a Sunfish with no life jacket.
Where are the Berry islands?
In the Bahamas northwest of Nassau. The water is very shallow and requires local knowledge so not many cruisers visit them.
Is that in the United States and can you make more videos like this
It's in the Bahamas. I grew up there and sadly we have moved on. I don't know when I'll be back, but when I am I'll be back in the boat
😍😍
