    This is amazing! We need this in Berlin, we would have needed that already 20 years ago. I was so scared to go by subway as a child, teenager and young adult, because I was harassed every day in the street, on buses and trains. It got so bad, that I felt constantly in fear and had the feeling of being followed and haunted all the time. And when I had the courage to ask someone for help, they didn’t help me. Then I started to mostly wear wide, dark clothes, was hiding my hair, so that people might confuse me with a boy from the back. I started fighting sports and after 1-2 years it got a bit better. But this just took a lot of joy from my teenager years, to go out with friends and have fun. Often I cancelled invitations and stayed home because of that.

    I live near Toronto and have never been groped. Two days in London and I was groped by a teenager. It seemed like he had full support from his friends. It was the most bizarre thing I have ever experienced. I filed a police report and the police didn’t seem to mind. What an awful feeling. One quick google search showed me this was a huge problem in London. Funny thing is, I googled a couple other Canadian cities just to see if there were many new reports about public groping.. there we not many in comparison to London.
    How sad. My heart goes out to the women in this city.

      John Turner Exactly this strategy is not logical. I was stopped by a transport police officer who accused me of using my phone as a pretence to watch a girl's luggage. He called two more officers. While waiting the girl overheard and came over to say I was standing there before she even came. Nonetheless the police came and took half an hour to background check me. Of course I complained, and was told it was a high crime area. Funny thing was they couldn't check my story because the CCTV was blurry. Go figure 🙄

    • @joycinhaborges2618
      @joycinhaborges2618 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I see your logic but it is slightly incorrect. They step in to stop someone getting assaulted, which of course is right. An offence can be attempted and that attempt in itself is an offence. It is quite difficult to prove in these cases as someone going back amd forth on tubes standing behind people can come up with some ingenious excuses one simply being they like tube trains. But with enough evidence, like watching someone prey on people and follow them it may be possible to get some sort of attempted offence. It must be frustrating because if they step in chances are nothing will happen to the 'perp' but it wpuld be wrong for Police to allow someone to get sexually assaulted so they can get a conviction.

    • @oh-totoro
      @oh-totoro 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joycinha Borges, the OP is absolutely correct. There's no way on earth they could ever get a conviction for sexual assault. It's not a crime to change trains too often, or to look in the direction of girls, or to board a train behind a girl. There is no way they could ever prove what their intention is. What if their intention was pick-pocketing? Or maybe even just to talk to the girl they just spotted on the platform? They would be doing the very same actions. And thus, they could never be convicted, as you could never prove what their intentions were.

    • @joycinhaborges2618
      @joycinhaborges2618 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totoro Never say never. It comes down to a reasonable person test. Intent is proven every single day without the offence actually being comitted. The pickpocket scenario would be a hard defence in cirtain circumstances. i.e pickpocketers dont stalk victims for a great length of time as if the mark was too hard there would be 1000's of others to choose from to pickpocket from. Add in a persons background i.e they have several convictions then a case starts to build. I accept it would be difficult to get 12 jury members to agree but certainly not impossible.

      RS2002 Agreed. Exposure means addiction. People become addicted to stimulants. Drink, drugs, gambling, prostitution. Further, there are those who, while not addicts, still foster an unhealthy relationship with their stimulant of choice. Likewise, many people abuse drink, but it does not necessarily follow that they are alcoholics.

      BF TE Yes, the crime rate is low in Japan. However, the Japanese very much favour role playing games over violent games. Of course, there is some violence in RPGs but it's a far cry from Call of Duty and the like. In FPS the violence is excessive but in RPG's there's a lot of adventuring and discovering too. The Japanese are avid travellers are they not?

    I'm fairly sure the law needs to get its definition of sexual assault and sexual harrasment right. Assault means using some sort of force, whilst harrasment is a bit different. Both are screwed up though but I don't like how they havn't been clearly defined like in this video.

    • @grandmage1925

    Wait, how do you know 100% that 90% of cases go unreported but TFL knows that’s reported... unless you are estimating.....

    • @seallofapproval
      @seallofapproval 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They survey people who have taken the tube asking if they've experienced harassment and what they did in response. However, a lot of the time, these surveys are sought out by people who have experienced harassment so the real percentage of unreported cases might be even higher.

    What is the cost benefit against the fact that there are already uniformed London transport police. Be visible as a deterrent. In the event of an assault, as a victim be vocal. Call them out publicly. Tell them to "stop brushing up..." Get other passengers on your side. Even if most are cowards you will always find supporting individuals to stand by your side.
    Don't lose your cool and remain firm. Speak loud and clear, don't yell and stay in control. Other passengers will be far more willing to support you if you appear strong on the outside. (You can have a cry with a friend later).
    The power of good citizens will be far more effective in countering a few depraved individuals and will set a better self regulated culture that we will all benefit.
    And those inefficient police resources could be freed up more effectively.

    I do hope people who have been victims of actual harassment & suffering receive their justice, however, lets please be careful not to take this out of context! The way in which a man & women meet in romantic cartoons can't always be true for the majority of real life, most of us lack access to the events/times & places you need to be in to talk to someone so we, therefore, do our best to win their attention as & when possible. Harassment is more like if someone asks to be left alone & you refuse to acknowledge it. Everyone has a Yin to their Yang to miss out on it because we've devolved to a stage where approaching someone is deemed as harassment is ridiculous, forcing each other to wear masks will only enhance our lack of love connection & community! Drop me out whens the next flight to K-Pax!

    Some weirdos on the tube I've only ever used it a few times in my life but I recall being stared at on a number of occasions for no apparent reason one that stands out was three lads in hoodies bunched up close together on the seats while the train was empty heads facing down constantly looking at me for no apparent reason completely filled with hate in their eyes I tried to ignore them but in the end I had to do it back I did it until they got off the train I won't be intimidated by any person seems to be an undercurrent of hate in London that most people don't see but believe me it's there drugs different cultures and the gulf between rich and poor no doubt plays a factor.

    I remember it was my sisters birthday and I treated her to the theatre performance of Mamma Mia. We got off at our train stop. We were both wearing smart dresses. As we were going to acend the stairs to the street we passed a couple of young men. I remember as I passed one of them reached his hand up my dress and grabbed my crotch. I looked back and they were just laughing and staring at me. I would of reported it to a police officer but I didn't want to disturb my sisters birthday celebration. I wish now I would have. Its not ok that men like that think its OK to take advantage and assault you.
