    Hey Mandi, I just got hired as a Rca. I went through oreintation. To be honest, they scared us straight. After hearing all the benefits, I think I'd rather be a CCA. But anyway, I'm not a quitter so I'm gonna push through. I'm a mom too. I'm afraid I wont see my kids and husband. But we need to get out of debt so I'm determined. I was really interested to hear you used to have panic attacks and heart palpitations. Thatd what I've been going through. I'm 80+ pounds overweight. I'm so nervous. I don't want to be overwhelmed and quit. I need to make this work✊

    I’m here because my daughter is going through this process. Right now she is doing the driving test. I’m watching videos trying to occupy the time. I’m so excited and so nervous for her. I’m so proud of her. So knows she has a rough road ahead of her, but she really wants this! I’m a school bus driver and I remember how hard that was and how I cried a lot when I first started. But then I loved loved loved it. I hope me sticking that out set an example for her to stick this out. Thanks for making these videos!! She probably watched it. I know she watched a lot before she ever even applied.

    Great video! I'm lucky enough to work in a smaller office in central Illinois. I've been working six days a week for about 2 months now, and since it's a smaller route I'm not forced to put up with Amazon Sundays. I have seen several people come and go, and I've been thrown to the wolves SEVERAL times. Nothing like showing up to a totally new town, and getting thrown a route you've never even seen before. I average about 9.5-10 hours a day right now because it's Christmas. I know that there are CCAs who have it so much worse, but it's one reason I applied in a small town office. I should also be making regular in the next few months, so I can't complain. BUT pleeeeeease. Don't apply to be a CCA if you are lazy and can't handle busting your ass at least six days a week, in all sorts of weather.

    Trying to decide if I want to pursue this position after doing a lot of research. There are a ton of bad reviews so that alone is making me second guess applying for CCA. Your videos are really great because you mention realistic points and offer valuable insights. I don't know if I can do this tbh. I haven't worked for 1 year now and I'm out of shape. I know I'd be miserable and hate it, and want to quit. I commend you for sticking with it, and thank you for the videos! You're going back after your foot is healed I assume?

    I was a letter carrier for 26 years. I retired with the early out for 1992. I was only 45 years old but wanted to do something else. I got my pension and went to Walmart and spent 27 years there and retired. I started getting social security at age 67. I am 73 now but have no plans to work anymore. CCA started after I retired but I can see it would not be easy with such little training. Good luck. Hang in there and retire if you can . It is well worth the wait.

    1st I want to say thank you for your well informative videos. I just became a new subscriber. I am in the middle of got through the steps to becoming a CCA in my area, I just had my driving/road test today and my shadow day is tomorrow. Then I have my 4 day CCA training.
    I have a question, I saw on one of your videos you take about what you take with you and the required uniform to wear. I was curious about foot wear. What would you suggest for foot wear. Like what would be the best waking sneakers to invest in?! I’m transitioning from being a PSE to a CCA and the plant that I worked in the concrete did a number on feet. I am fully aware that I’m gonna be doing a lot of walking, I just want to invest in some good walking sneakers to less the pain that I know will surely come from all my walking while on the job.

    2nd week out on my own. Not casing yet. I really don’t want to. Just let me come in and take the mail and go out and deliver it. But, I guess the casing will come. I can’t believe the paranoia about time. What time did you get here, what time did you leave for the route, what time did you start actually delivering the mail. What time did you stop, what time did you leave the route, what time did you get back to the office, what time did you end tour? Sheesh, I got here at this time and Im leaving at that time. Is t that enough? Last week, my paystub listed as having ONE minute of overtime! ONE. Just keep it if it isn’t rounded to the quarter hour. Very odd about timing. Tough job. I remember what the guy said who I shadowed; “The juice is worth the squeeze “. We’ll see. I like hard work but, nonstop? I need some days off! Or, I could burn out and the USPS will have to go through the expense and time of training new people all over again. Efficient?

      Damn! Well I didn’t have to have surgery, but it was still a long process. And the only reason I saw a dr so quickly is because I called around myself to find a dr that accepted workers comp. I found a Henry Ford network dr, so they were just billing our insurance until I actually received a workers comp claim number - which was about 2-3 wks after my injury date. Shit is a nightmare! I posted a video about a week ago detailing my workers comp process if you’re interested.

    I just ended my nightmare at the post office after 5 weeks. I went over a month without a EIN (ID number) or time card. Every day I had to fill out a 1260 time card. I also have yet to receive a paycheck. The end came for me because at 6’ 4” and near 300 lbs the truck is just too small for me. My back hurt so bad by lunchtime I was moving like a snail. Also, I had to twist my foot so much to hit the gas pedal It’s still hurting 4 days after leaving. My last day was a true nightmare in monsoon rains with more mail and packages than any other day. The truck I had was idling at like 3,000 rpm and would take off like a rocket when put in gear. It was also constantly backfiring. I was just over halfway through the route when it got dark and the dome light went out in the truck so I couldn’t see the mail. I tried using the cargo light but it just wasn’t enough. I had called the supervisor earlier relaying my circumstance and they offered no help. So after sitting for 30 minutes waiting for their call I just returned to office and quit. My journey also included showing up for the driving test and not being on the schedule (a 1.5 hr drive to the location when another one was 10 mins away) and showing up for my shadow day and again not on the list. There are serious issues there and I’m glad to be gone. Most of the people I worked with including the main supervisor, postmaster and trainers were fantastic. I’m in California and according to state law they have to pay me 72 hours after leaving. That will be tonight at 6 pm. I highly doubt they’ll have a check for me. The law also says they will owe me my average daily salary for each day the final check is late. I’d probably have to sue and hire a lawyer to get that. I’ll be reporting them to the state labor board since I haven’t received my pay yet too. As far as the basic job goes it was actually fine. I’d suggest if you’re training on a route to look at Google maps to plot it out. I marked parking locations, uturns and msp points on there. Also on my phone I kept a note with address ranges for say walking portions and the times each day certain points were reached. It only took me a couple of days to get all the streets and address ranges memorized. Also, I’d suggest when delivering to not only look at addresses but to memorize the names of the occupants. It makes casing and delivering the mail a little faster. I do have a whole lot more respect for the people that do this job. I don’t think it’s nearly worth the pay though. Hopefully, I’m going back to my desk job making my own hours and long lunches. The post office schedule is worse than the military.

      Wow - I would say that sounds like a special kind of hell. I am sorry you went through that! I am surprised you didn't receive any pay or the EINs. I received that info in orientation. I've been a CCA for 4 months. Far as size goes, you might have a tough time carrying these weight lifting sets and big boxes of dog food people order. Also some houses have large steps that you might have to sort of step way up to get up the steps. Another thing you'll have to figure out is how to carry your stacks of mail and flats (magazines and anything not letter mail.) With your height at 4'11 I imagine your hands arent big so you'll have to carry stacks of mail in your bag like I do. I gots small hands. Good luck! It's not a difficult to understand job but it is lots of work. Get good walking shoes and the only dogs to really worry about are the little ones.

      Tyler Johnson get phone numbers to other CCAs and always your managers. Ask questions. Follow the mail. When you finish the split- go to the next piece of mail and park outside that house. Start there. Make sure you pay attention to your flats. They are rubber banded by splits. So when you grab your mail grab all of what is included in the next bundle. Sounds like a lot- but you’ll see. You got this. Every day will be easier than the last.

They only hired me but then again they hired a lot of casuals and MHA. I was thinking about PSE or window clerk. But I will see how this goes. They said the bigger the office the better because you can move up the list and more hours. The smaller the officer not a lot of hours.

    • @FranticPandaTTv
      @FranticPandaTTv  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elizabeth Olufade it’s all good- I like questions. My office has 63 routes- there are 4 offices in my city and mine is the largest of the 4. So the CCAs move up in the city. 34 CCAs for the city so we all get a route at whichever office is available. Hope that makes sense. There was a hiring freeze over the summer. They have to get approval to hire CCAs. When they hired you they may have hired more than one, but they didn’t make it through the background check or a number of things. They may still try to hire more.

      I'm sure you have this figured out by now, but I would just explain that I have everything in order by drop off number, not by address - sometimes that helps. Sometimes I would have to go further and explain that we can't grab for individuals for several reasons, but one is that we are on a time constraint and I don't have time to go through and look for a special piece of mail or package for everyone, but I would try to get it to their home as soon as I can. Also - it can be a huge safety concern for you as a carrier to turn your back to a customer and be caught off guard.
