    Suzi Quatro deserves FAR more recognition than she has ever received, especially here in the States. Back in the mid 70’s, I played her songs like “Can The Can” at a dinky little college radio station, WGVU-FM in Dubuque, Iowa. Our listeners would often call up & request her songs, saying how much they liked the sound of her bass playing. Maybe NOW, in 2020, the rest of the world will FINALLY catch up with Suzi!

We both knew every song on her debut album when we went to the concert. I was on the floor and got fairly close to the stage. I was start struck. Plus I must say, Suzi was a bit of a looker. I have not heard those songs in years so I just played the whole album, I don't remember all the words but I certainly remember all of the songs. Thanks for the memories. Was fun to catch up.

    P-Bass. Original. 1957.
    She still has and plays the original 57 Fender Precision bass given to her by her father when she was 14.
    Let's take a moment for that all to sink in....

    I recently became a Suzi Quatro fan during the pandemia, when I chanced upon a few videos. Great performer! I know little about the ups and downs of her career (and did not see her on Happy Days) but she certainly is one of the best bassists I've heard, as well as a fine songwriter and performer. This video was quite educational; I don't play bass, but I wish I did (my favorite instrument is a 12-string guitar). I agree with her that the engine of a band is the rhythm section, and she certainly drove her bands. Good to see that she is still around and still performing; I wish her well.

    Happy belated cakeday greetings to Miss Suzi Q. A great favourite here in Australia. Chinn and Chapman may have given her her recording start, but Australia turned her into a superstar- at least here!
    The first album I bought with my own money was a copy of "Can the Can" on cassette in Canberra.

    I am probably the only guy in US that knew who she was before Happy Days. Edit around 6:30 think that riff is on Alice Cooper Schools Out album someplace. If you are into bass that's another great one, Dennis Dunaway

    • @markdp1983

      Thats a shame actually; that her success in the UK and Australia didnt translate into success in her homeland. She should have been just as big in the US.

    • @johnalex6309
      @johnalex6309 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dirk, I hate to break your soul like mine was thrashed, but not everything you THINK is Dunaway was actually Dennis on record. Studio musicians (the same guys that recorded The Partridge Family and The Archies albums) were pretty much the entire School's Out and Muscle of Love albums' staff, except for Vincent Furnier, of course...

      Ha! Not the only one! My family was stationed in Izmir, Turkey in 1974 and they played "48 Crash" and "Can the Can" in the discos (Turkish version of a night club w/ dj) as well as "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet and "Burn" and "Might Just Take Your Life" by Deep Purple. This was my sr. year of high school--I graduated in '75, came back to the states, and it was right in the middle if the Disco era---aaaccckkk!!
