Roadside Picnic is my favorite SF book, after Solaris. Haunting, gritty and deep, they are unarguably science fiction but that is only a pretext for exploring ourselves. Unexpectedly, cause it's a very high bar, this video does them justice.

This feels like heavy inspiration to the virtual reality game called into the radius. The story, lore, mechanics, art, and playstyle. It all matches. Some stuff differs, of course, because you are alone in into the radius and names for items are changed. But I like how much of stalker is used in a newer game.

Funnily enough, I also went into SoC blind, and I got the True Ending first try. I think it's because that also reflected my own desire: I wanted to know the truth. I wanted to explore. I took unnecessary risks to check out unexplored areas. And I went through hell in the CNPP being so unprepared with not enough medical supplies and just barely enough ammo for my G36C. But it was worth it to know the truth.
Fantastic video! I recently picked up the audiobook of Roadside Picnic, as I was interested in STALKER 2 and wanted to learn where it came from, and I wasn't prepared for the richness of ideas it had embedded into what is a very down-to-earth, simple story. (Btw, the Strugatsky's comments at 2:30 about the origins of the term were written in the afterword of an edition of Roadside Picnic, an afterword you can readily find online. Also some great insight into how it came to be published and what it was like being a Soviet scifi writer during the middle and late days of the USSR.) I think beyond the way the ideas behind Stalkers and the Zone capture my imagination is how incredible it is that both a film and a game series jumped off from the book's core concepts with their own interpretations of the Zone and the people around it. But all of them keep the core questions and philosophical underpinnings of Roadside Picnic to some extent. Just goes to show how many of us can deeply connect to the Zone and its mysteries.
What a masterpiece of a video. This just put into words ideas I had about the stalker franchise, about my fascination with it, with the concept of survival itself. I feel like I understand myself better with this. Like I'm more of a person, almost.

Exactly, going in blind is the best experience. I watched the movie first, but walking around Cordon for the first time was like, "wtf is going on around here?" and then it gets crazier. That's more of a surface level compared to this video, but going in blind is best for both ways. Nothing like being sleep deprived and then seeing objects in a dark tunnel start to levitate and thrown.
This is but a lone comment designed from the ground up to appease the algorithm we have begrudgingly resisted and accepted as the guide to our interests and subjective experiences manifest as media. That said, let this comment raise this video in the algorithmic queue of worldly interests and topics. Amen.
25:34 I don't think this is true, actually. I'm fairly certain that the Strugatsky brothers intended for the book to be pure science fiction and not be tainted by Cold War politics, as evidenced by them choosing to base it in an unnamed region of North America (which very well might have been in Canada, and not the US), rather than in their home country of the USSR.
I would agree it wasn't about "cold war politics" per se. But the book is a clear critique of capitalism, and while not a direct part of the story, the Strugatskys were CONSTANTLY fighting soviet censors to tell the stories they actually wanted to tell. Picnic was one of the worst, and it took years to actually get past the artistic beauracracy's censorship. The afterword of the new editions of the book, written by Boris, goes into this pretty heavily
I love that i had a similar incident with Fox in SOC. I was walking by his place on my way to check something out and decided to stop and talk to him to see if he had any other missions at the moment. While i was there some bandits walked by and started shooting at me through the window of his building. As I was shooting back I heard a noise behind me and when I finished the fight and turned around I found that Fox had stood up and taken a shot to the head that had barely missed mine.

Well, it has nothing to do with Stalker 2 😅 but thank you!
jup, i suppose just stalker makes more sence in that sentance, however my brain was thinking about the timing of the video. Great content though.
@ of course it was in honor of the first new stalker game in decades!
"He was a good Stalker" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First frame is actually from the movie Nice one
I enjoyed this and found it interesting, thank you for sharing it with us.
Love your vids dude
This might be your best yet
Also I deadass jumped out my seat when I saw a 40 minute Riloe video
You can always count on Riloe to deliver a banger at 7 in the morning
Wow awesome video thank you for the lore breakdown and literary analysis
This was beautiful!!!
RIP Fox 🫡
This byfsr is my favorite stalker lore video
as a genZer with a short attention span, I have the pleasure to tell you I stayed for the whole 20 minutes of x2 speed video. you're the best. the sheer quality of the content is crazy, friend.
