Played behind Delbert and ran around with him and his band in the 50's and 60's. In Fort Worth we had a very supportive band environment. Everybody supported each other. We partied together and stayed up late...going to the White Sands Supper Club on Jacksboro Hwy to listen and sit in with Leon Childs who played all night. Great memories of a time past.
@@buckhorncortez No need to be a smart assed sarcastic dick. You and we all know what he meant . He's praising him. Delbert can sing any thing. pop, Rock, Blues, you name it. He,s my favorite solo artist plus he knows how to surround himself w/ Class Musicians. Keep Rocking Del!!!😅😊😂❤
I met Delbert in person in Winston-Salem, NC, in 199? I love the harmonica. Delbert hugged me in a place corner of Stratford Road & Healy Drive.. Not a very large building. Great memory!
The one and only Delbert McClinton in his prime with a kickass Austin Texas band from 1989.... Doesn't get any better.... This song has been attributed to be written by Aaron and Milton Sparks but this is the now famous reworked 1949 version by the the great Memphis Slim (Peter Chapman) with totally different lyrics than the original from 1935.....
When touring with the Beatles in the beginning, he taught John Lennon how to play the harmonica. John played the harmonica in "Love Me Do". Thank you, Delbert!
Bear in mind, this was 1989! It is my impression the folks in that German TV studio are completely clueless... regarding this (infectious) style of music.
1:28 Delberts voice has that great rasp mixed in with a little Texas drawl and, the way, he bends pulls a note right into position… Still blows me away🎉 sitting here with my right foot in a cast, it is so hard not to keep time with that big band sound. Wow🎉🎉
@@the-magictones the trumpet player really lays down I mean sounding horn🎺 it takes quite a lot of skill to blend a trumpet into a rock band; another trumpet player that is also terrific is the player with the Mavericks. As a lead guitarist, I really enjoy a great trumpet sound and you guys are laying it down.🎺😎🎺
Wow! Great band putting together such a great rendition. Listen to the band at 4:15 and tell me you want to just get up and dance! As a sax player I just wished Delbert would have added one more horn!
At 3:25 the piano player starts his solo and it's a straight up chorus of the head to Thelonius Monk's Straight No Chaser, a classic bebop jazz tune. I think it's incredible that he did that and moreover that it fits perfectly.
@@chrislafra4945 Thanks for correcting me. I have listened to so much jazz all my life that I knew it was Monk but my Old Timer's Memory makes remembering names of things when I need to very hard.
Nice catch!! It makes sense though, jazz is just sophisticated blues, and blues is just gospel for people who like to party, and it all eventually turns to rock and roll. Music often moves in a circle and ends up back where it started, or ends up fitting right in in a new neighborhood

Hi Jim, thanks for chiming in on memory lane. 😊Those sure are memories of the time when Delbert played with The Straightjackets and The Rondels?
@@the-magictones wow. Yes we were in high school when Jack's Place had the Straightjackets. Great memories.

The piano is exceptional on this song.
Delbert makes this old lady feel so good I just have to dance. ♡
It really was the 80s - guitar player in a blues and roots band playing a Charvel with a Floyd Rose, active pickups, and shark tooth inlays! ;-)
Been following Delbert for years. He's a Fort Worth boy. Going on his Blues cruise in January 2023.
Wow, have a lot of fun on board!
My father went to high school with him. Arlington Heights high school.
This man is a true miracle!

Such a powerhouse. Delbert has been paying dues since the 50's. It's really hard to imagine the miles he has put down. Amazing.

I must assume that this type of music and show was rather new to Germany at that time: 1989… Delbert was (and is) known to insiders only. What a pity!
