I was pleasantly surprised when I went to China. It was nothing like we've been told back home. It has the most amazing Civic Infrastructures and cheap Civic Services. Their public transport is second to none. Their Bullet Trains between Cities, their driverless RoboCabs, EV's everywhere replacing the combustion vehicles, fast charging stations, their Internet is super fast with fast 5G EVERYWHERE in China, and soon to be 6G. Their smart AI Skyscrapers, the abundance of food, the cleanliness, the safety, and shopping without fear even at 3am in the morning. To see the REAL CHINA, people need to get themselves a passport and visit China. Our Media are not telling you the truth about China.
China is a civilized, open, clean, orderly, and beautiful safe country. Even if you walk on the streets of China at two o'clock in the night, it is very safe. The quality of life of the Chinese people is also very high. China's rural areas are also very clean, and the roads are also very safe. Very well built. I used the 144-hour transit visa to Beijing in May, and I went through without problem. I applied for a Union Pay debit card with my local bank and tested out while in Beijing to see if it worked. It allowed me to use it to pay cashless in restaurants and supermarket or any shopst that have the sign Union Pay.
I had linked Mastercard to my wechat wallet. However, through previous experience, it would work only when certain merchants provide such transaction, which often has a high conversion fee. However, it would fail payment at local smaller merchants.

In fact, many places in China have such a gorgeous night scene, I don't know if it can be called a light show, because every night they light up these cyberpunk like lights, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing are more typical representatives. Although the development cycle of these cities is too short, they are still developing at an amazing speed, and in the near future they will become as sophisticated as Shanghai. I had been living in Shanghai for like several years before I moved to Suzhou city. Shanghai is a incredible city to enjoy. I have to admit during summer,Shanghai becomes the hottest spot for tourist, which means you will be putting up with long queue. The places the TH-camr went are tourists attraction but if you wanna dive into Shanghai like food and life there,I highly recommend other areas like Jing’an temple and Xuhui district.

there are so many people in shanghai because it is summer vocation now, many parents are traveling with their children all over China. Welcome and hope you can be back someday.
I was born and raised in Shanghai, hope you had a good staying there. I think the airport staff was confused, 144 hr transit visa shouldn’t be an issue. I fact I just came back to U.S. from China in late July. Aside from the Alipay and WeChat pay system which weren’t convenient to foreigners, Shanghai is a magnificent and very tolerant city.
Yes Shanghai is so much better than for example Beijing which is more focused on government regime nonsense. While Shanghai is more focused on freedom and doing business.
More than 50% of new car sales in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou are either fully electric or plug-in hybrid All buses are electric. Really made a difference in air quality. There are a lot less smog days.
Because the mainstream media only shows cloudy skies in China to say China is the biggest polluter in the world 😂 in major cities like Shenzhen now, most cars are electric, the streets is so much more silent. You only know what I meant if you actually been there
As Chinese I didn’t know there is a thing called transit visa, it looks like so much more foreigner friendly than the regular visa. And thank god that you can bind your credit card to Alipay just right now, this is a new feature that makes foreigners live in China so much easier! It charges though😂

if you have more time, i recommend visiting Zhujiajiao in the outskirts, where you get to taste what life in 700 years ago was like, similar to Yu garden but far less touristy and locals still live there. enjoy your stay in china.
It is the summer vacation for kids, and this is the first summer vacation after the pandemic. That's why there are so many peoples in big cities, Shanghai, Beijing, etc..
Now it is summer vacation (July and August) in China, so there are many people. Because college students will travel with their friends and classmates during the holidays, and because primary and secondary schools are also in the summer vacation, parents will also organize tours as a family unit. Moreover, July and August are the hottest times in China. It is not recommended to choose this time to travel to China.❤
Beautiful easy going show well made👍, not only 144hr visa, business visit can have onsite visiting visa with business letter, even multi entry visa with the supporting evidence. It is the right way to go to open to the world. Shanghai's crowded streets at night is the most I ever seen as well.
Going to Chengdu in a few months on the same transit visa. We will be in Vietnam and will have a return ticket. I believe we will set up WeChat pay, as well as get some cash. It looks like we will take the new fast rail from Honk Kong to downtown Chengdu. If all goes well, we would like to spend a month in China. We have spent 2 weeks there several years ago and are looking forward to returning. Thanks for the video. Well done.
Alipay is more convenient for foreigners because it can be tied to international bank cards, and I suppose if you want to go to Chengdu from Hong Kong, flying is a better choice because it will take you 9 hours and 45 minutes by high-speed train which is been too long since you only have a 144-hour transit visa. I suggest you fly from Hong Kong to Chongqing for a day sightseeing, which is another extraordinary giant city not far from Chengdu, then lastly transfer to Chengdu by high-speed rail.
Thanks for the advice. We're still working out plans. Since we'll be in Vietnam for at least six months, we might bite the bullet and get a 30-60 day China visa and not be rushed by the 144 hr. Time will tell. Thanks for the advice.@@jasonshen6981

Great vid Joel! My girlfriend and I are flying via China when we go to Australia later this year. Do you need to sort the transit visa before you get to the airport or is this what they were sorting for you? We will only be in China to get the connecting flight which is around 2.5 hours after we land so wont be leaving the airport
You don’t need to apply before hand for the transit visa, the only thing is if you are having to go through customs it took us about 2 hours to get through you may not have enough time to connect, but I think we didn’t have an especially long queue
It is supposed that you do not need to go through custom checking if you stay inside the airport international transition area, and certainly you do not need a transit visa unless you want to get out of the airport during this 2.5 hour period.
If you're just transiting at the airport, you don't need a transit visa! Because there is no need to go through customs. If you want to go to Shanghai and need a ticket to a third country, you can apply for a 144-hour transit visa!

Not normally busy like this. People from all over the country run into Shanghai for their summer school holiday.
Welcome to Shanghai, China and enjoy your experience, cheers!
Very glad to watch and hear nice things said about China when the warmongers keep wanting chaos. Cheers
@user-sv6hl8rp6j 😂😂😂
Next month will get back to Shanghai, can't wait! Hope we won't put on too much weight😋
Welcome to my second home Shanghai after 9 years here. Seems you did all the typical tourist things, Nanjing Road, Yu Garden, Pudong skyscrapers. I think French concession is nice to stroll around and see old Shanghai. Hope you had a good time!
Welcome to Shanghai, esteemed guests. If needed, I can take a day off to show you around.
Shanghai is my hometown and it's so nice to see a video of you guys visiting my home. Hope you enjoyed it!
there're so many nice places you can visit in China, if you like landscape, please go to West part, if you like minority culture, please go to Gui Zhou, if you like noodle dishes, go to Xi An, oh, so many.....
Welcome🇨🇳😊For the rural area I recommend the mountains at the middle south. Those mountains some are so beautiful that you can actually touch the cloud. 😇
Great suggestion! Definitely!
hey Joel, welcome to Shanghai! your video is amazing!
You're always welcome back to your second home of Asia - the land of adventure, delicious street food, ancient culture, outdoor activities and smiley locals.
Wait, ur camera must been lying to me! Cuz this is different China than my government and media have been showing to me!
Bring yourself to see the real China with your own eyes bro
In fact, many places in China have such a gorgeous night scene, I don't know if it can be called a light show, because every night they light up these cyberpunk like lights, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing are more typical representatives. Although the development cycle of these cities is too short, they are still developing at an amazing speed, and in the near future they will become as sophisticated as Shanghai. China is developing so fast, it is an incredible speed.
China is vigorously promoting the anti-espionage law to the people, and TV propaganda encourages everyone to catch spies. If you say anything bad about China, you will be arrested as a spy to subvert the government!
So you can you access youtube. It's blocked in China. My Chinese Colleague from Shanghai can't watch youtube.
I use VPN to access TH-cam@@HermanWillems
@@HermanWillemsand I am your nobody in Shenzhen, also can watch YT😂
We have been to Shanghai a few times.
It never stops to amaze me.
You should go up the Pearl TV tower.
Also go to the museum in the ground level.
The bund is an amazing place.
Also try to get a boat trip along the river at night.
Love you both.
Hi Joel, your video makes me so homesick! I just left shanghai last month and starting my new job in EU. Hope you enjoy your time in Shanghai, and highly recommend you to visit Xintiandi (line1/14 to south huangpi road or line13 to xintiandi)at night (21:30) in the Refinery to enjoy the live band
I am glad you guys have a great time in Shanghai.
This was the best video I’ve seen from a foreigner in China. All other videos are always comparing the West to China. I just wanted to see an honest video of someone experiencing China. Thanks for the video!
Aww thanks for watching, currently planning a new trip to china
Another great video guys
Thank you so much! 😄
Oh man, I really hope you guys get a tourist visa to China. I'm sure it'll be an epic trip.
We definitely will at some point, it’s just a matter of time
@@Joelfriend Awesome, looking forward to it! There are so many travel channels I follow that are afraid of going due to the insane amount of China haters that will inevitably be in the comments. Just blow them off and let it boost your channels engagement numbers 😂 Plus you can always post on China's Bilibili. They love foreigners experiencing China.
Yes , many visitors don't know there's some special program for the 144 hours visa. Thanks for mentioning this, some people start like from Hong Kong>Macau>mainland China.
sorry, you can not get the transit visa in land border port
Thanks.....may never get to Shanghai but thanks to your video I really enjoyed seeing the sights with you....beautiful experience.
Thanks and like to see more about China
Definitely, we plan to go back at some point! 😄
Welcome to Shanghai. As a local in Shanghai, I recommend you go to the North Band, the scenery is the same but less people. Then Bund and Yu Garden where you went are basically for tourist, we normally don't go there.
China is big and beautiful, and there are so many places to visit
The beautiful scenery I browsed on X is now presented in front of me, even more breathtaking than on the screen. China, you are really the darling of nature!
That noodle is actually a dish from Henan province called 'huoluo' noodle and it happens to be one of my fav noodle in Shanghai! So surprised you got this dish omg haha
饸饹面 from North Western
Just returned from a trip through China and the Philippines, ending in Shanghai. Loved the city's vibrant culture, stunning skyline, and lively streets. The blend of modern and traditional is incredible. Eager to return!
欢迎再次来中国玩。上海、北京、西安、成都、重庆、哈尔滨、杭州、桂林、西双版纳、拉萨,每一个城市都有完全独特的风景。
welcome to Shanghai! I love Caption's bar!!
It’s such a great bar with a view! 😄
Lucky you two, enjoy your trip in Shanghai.
Great video... Nice getaway pit stop.
cute couple, welcome to come to Shanghai my hometown again in future with a more deep dive
love the background music you choose, glad you liked it! I welcome you to my country again!
Amazing ! Beautiful !
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. You are both amazing🇺🇸🇯🇲🖤🙏🏾
Hi Joel, I'm Dennis Daniels from Cleveland, Ohio! Thanks for sharing your video about your tour of Shanghai!
Shanghai dumpling is the best, brother. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful city.
Welcome all friends to travel to China, you will find a beautiful world that is different from what the media sees, full of charm, clean, quiet, and safe country!
there are so many people in shanghai because it is summer vocation now, many parents are traveling with their children all over China.
After seeing the video posted by the blogger, I am also looking forward to traveling to China.
Hey lucky you guys got really good weather for your trip. 😊
It is Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Qingdao that does synchronized light show with their buildings on a regular basis, like two times a week
i was blown away by seeing such a clear and blue sky.
More than 50% of new car sales in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou are either fully electric or plug-in hybrid
All buses are electric.
Really made a difference in air quality. There are a lot less smog days.
Why?
Because the mainstream media only shows cloudy skies in China to say China is the biggest polluter in the world 😂 in major cities like Shenzhen now, most cars are electric, the streets is so much more silent. You only know what I meant if you actually been there
Wonderful viewpoints
As Chinese I didn’t know there is a thing called transit visa, it looks like so much more foreigner friendly than the regular visa.
And thank god that you can bind your credit card to Alipay just right now, this is a new feature that makes foreigners live in China so much easier! It charges though😂
Yeah its a new thing
过境签证多年前就有了。
Its really a good thing... I just tried bind my indonesia debit card to alipay account.. and successful yayy..
刚有的,而且加长了时间,类似hk的过境签,香港也有。
Welcome to my country, have a good time
I am from Chongqing, which ranks 8-6 in China. But when I came to Shanghai, I felt like a rural person going to town.
你怕是在放屁哦,除非你家本来就是重庆郊县的,本来就是土农民,就当我没说!
Chongqing is ten times better.
During the begining of covid, my family and I came to Budapest from Shanghai actually. Suddenly 3 years past. Welcome to Shanghai and enjoy your furthe trips!
You guys are adorable! Please do come to visit more places next time!! You are definitely welcomed!
Haha about 2 months ago I was just taking an internship at Shanghai Tower,so it is interesting to see your video. Shanghai is a magic city and I miss it so much especially after watching your travel reports
You should try to go to Suzhou or Hangzhou near Shanghai. It's more beautiful and older than Shanghai.
indeed
this made me insanely homesick :( glad to see you enjoyed china tho!! excited for more china vlogs
if you have more time, i recommend visiting Zhujiajiao in the outskirts, where you get to taste what life in 700 years ago was like, similar to Yu garden but far less touristy and locals still live there. enjoy your stay in china.
Haha, some tips.
@@jdai2000现在旅游的人非常多,所以非常拥挤,9月以后会好很多。
Beautiful easy going show well made👍, not only 144hr visa, business visit can have onsite visiting visa with business letter, even multi entry visa with the supporting evidence. It is the right way to go to open to the world. Shanghai's crowded streets at night is the most I ever seen as well.
I've been to the Captain Bar as well. Brought back many memories.
Well done.
用支付宝就可以了,可以绑定国外的银行卡,
Alipay is more convenient for foreigners because it can be tied to international bank cards, and I suppose if you want to go to Chengdu from Hong Kong, flying is a better choice because it will take you 9 hours and 45 minutes by high-speed train which is been too long since you only have a 144-hour transit visa.
@@RePete02 as a Brit they told me the limit for the visa validity was 30 days - this was in Saigon today. No multiple entry or any stay longer than 30 days.
Like Mexico, one office says one thing another says something else. We will check into it more closely soon. Thanks for the heads up. We will be returning to Da Nang on the 10th.
@@ChrisinVietnam
Amazing, I was there this May, hotel and food is so nice and so cheap! I wanna go there again next Apr!!
highly recommend you guys go to Chongqing city in China, cyberpunk city.
We would love to at some point!
So futuristic. That swirl building.
THE best light show is in ShenZhen, not ShangHai.
and have a good trip.
thanks for this video! my bf and I are about to transit through china to seoul. hope everything works out🤗
Hope you both have had wonderful days in Shanghai. I was there 8/8-8/10.
OMG ! I just saw Ningbo Road, 宁波路, a small road very close to the Bund. Heaps of dim sum choices, Shanghai styles, nice outlets, out there.
It is not available to all nationalities. Double check before you go.
If you're just transiting at the airport, you don't need a transit visa! Because there is no need to go through customs. If you want to go to Shanghai and need a ticket to a third country, you can apply for a 144-hour transit visa!
You are literally just connecting another flight in the airport in like 2.5 hours, what do you worry about?
I know that my country, China, is not perfect, but what we believe in always inspires many people around the world. Welcome to China. I believe this trip to China will give you an unforgettable memory.🎉🎉
Very cool video😊
Thank you!!
Yes, i found that many people didn't know the 144 hours transit visa, thanks for mentioning this.
Welcome to the Middle Kingdom guys. Enjoy
Welcome to my home town!
Welcome to Shanghai. I'm a local from Shanghai. The time of your trip coincides with the summer vacation in China, China will have a large tourist crowd from July to September, which is distributed in the scenic spots of all the big cities in China, and the Bund in Shanghai is one of them. Next time, please choose the Chinese Spring Festival, because everyone will go home during the Chinese Spring Festival, you will not experience crowds, and you will have a better travel experience. Or avoid all Chinese holidays. I wish you a wonderful experience in China next time.
