  • We grew up, studied, worked and lived in Auckland, New Zealand almost our entire lives so normally we'd never need to stay in a hotel while in Auckland but thanks to Mum and Dad who gifted us a free stay at The Grand by Skycity, that's exactly what we did in this vlog!
    We had lunch at Little Yum. A small Chinese restaurant in Auckland CBD who serve up delicious Shanghainese food.
    小扬生煎 Shanghai Little Yum
    Address: 39 Victoria Street West, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010
    Hours: Mon-Fri 11am-6:30pm
    Closed Sat & Sun
    We bought our Aotea Square Ice Skating passes and skate hire from GrabOne:
    new.grabone.co...
    NB: Only available until 1 Aug 2021
    GameOn (the games arcade we were playing at) is located on Queen Street, a short walk from Aotea Square. Loads of fun games for all ages!
    GameOn
    Address: 291-297 Queen Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010
    Hours: Open daily, 10am til late
    A hāngi is a traditional Maori method of cooking food in a pit, dug in the earth (an earth oven). Rocks are heated and used to cook the food which is buried in the earth. It's is a great way to experience Maori culture, as is watching kapa haka performances. We got to experience both during Matariki (Maori New Year) right in the heart of Auckland city in Britomart. The wonderful kapa haka performance was done by the very talented Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi kapa haka group.

Nowadays, I enjoy having no plans and being random much more... speaking of random, kinda of random....but if/when you and Yen go to Korea, Studio Ghibli opened a store in Seoul. Just google Studio Ghibli Seoul store. They sell a bunch of cool stuff~ Stay safe!

    • @SeoulMan2020
      @SeoulMan2020 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeterandYen ...by the way, am I referring to hangi incorrectly? It sounds like hangi is more the method used to cook the different meats/vegetables/roots... so do I just call all of that hangi?

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      😅 I was originally using hangi in the wrong context too but yen told me it is the cooking method not the food.
      Googled the store it looks awesome. When we went to the store in Japan I really wanted to buy the original used film cells. They were so cool but also soo expensive 😅 if we go Korea will 💯 check that store out.
      Often these days even if planning something will leave lots of wiggle room to soak in what ever is happening at the time. Then the journey can be enjoyed more.

    We'll be there first week of January 2024, staying at the Grand one night embarking on a cruise to Sydney. I'm a hockey player but looks like the rink won't be available because of the season. Such a short time in Auckland any suggestions for sightseeing for just one day stay? Would you recommend the Sky Tower? We've been up the CN Tower in Toronto, the sky needle in Seattle, the tower in Niagara Falls to name a few.

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Skytower is a nice tourist spot and you'd definitely want a clear day to go up but if you wanna make the visit more exciting you can do a sky jump (controlled bungee off it) and/or a skywalk where you take a walk around the top outside part of it. If you're staying in the grand, you could also check out Weta Workshop Unleashed (it's upstairs of The Grand). Otherwise you can always just go down to the waterfront area and wynyard quarter which is nice to take a stroll around 🙂 Hope you enjoy your time whatever you end up doing!
