    Peter's famous facial reactions when eating:
    2:34 - tamale
    4:00 - special chicken tamale is so good that the sky blinks.

    Just Plane Interesting was cool, and love shops that have tons of fascinating stuff in them. It's like walking into an Antiques shop! It's nice that the drive to the dam isn't that far. LOLOL.. Thank god you have Yen with you Peter, so Yen can read the signs to get you to the right place!! We love waterfalls, this would be a beautiful place to stop for an afternoon. Glad to see the water back up there, we get droughts... we are in one here in California again. It looked like you 2 were the only people at the beach today! You guys captured some stunning sunset and thank you for taking us with you!! Love you guys to the moon and have a great day! 💖🥰🌛🤗

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahahaha there were 5 other people at the beach... but that's pretty normal of New Zealand beaches especially the ones outside of main towns or cities. You can often have the whole place to yourself 😁❤🇳🇿 sometimes yen gets it and sometimes I get it but often we both don't get it and end up lost 😅😂

      💯 some of the spots in west Auckland are pure magic 🎩✨ our other favorite sunsets have to be from rarotonga and angkor wat temple. Where are some of your favorite sunsets Bert?

      @@PeterandYen Well, I am incredibly lucky to be the son of parents who love(d) to travel and I have been left and right for my former job as a journalist as well, so I have seen my fair share of beautiful places and sunsets.
      Though I do remember a very, very spectacular sunset when staying in Greece, in hotel that was located on top of a high hill overlooking the Argolic Gulf. And another great one in Glenorchy, at the northern tip of Lake Wakatipu in NZ.
      But I do actually get some lovely sunsets from my home. We've been living here for 10 years now, the garden has matured and we love sitting outside, huddled up in a blanket, and watching the sun set.

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      O nice! Having parents that enjoy traveling while growing up must have been a lot of fun. Both yen and my parents didn't travel too much while we were growing up which might explain our love for travel now 🤔😂
      Didn't know you were a journalist, did you enjoy that profession?
      The sunset in Greece sounds amazing. It's one of the countries we're super looking forward to visiting in Europe. Ahhh yes south island 😁 hard to beat that area of New Zealand 🇳🇿
      Your home sounds lovely you'll need to send us a picture of a nice sunset sometime. I've always loved being in a nicely planted garden 🌿😍

    Banana blossom, look so good. I remember when I had my first tamal, I didn't like it because I felt it tasted like dirt (don't ask why I know how dirt taste) hahahaha but I was a child and as I ate it more times I started liking it more and more.
    Yes it is like a present!
    People wake up super early to make tamales, it is an art, and as you say Peter, I love ancient civilizations everything, so being able to still find this kind of food is amazing!

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      😁 it does have a very earthy natural flavor but that is definitely the charm of the food. Incredible eating something that tastes like it came from nature without all our modern day flavoring. Lovely video, as usual. Manita´s description about tamales was very accurate. There are tamales in all Latin America. I'm from Panama and we have too. Our tamales are made of ground corn and stuffed with chicken or pork, and are wrapped in banana leaf.

    Funny for a Korean guy to say this, but tamales make me nostalgic... spent most of my childhood/teenage years working in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood... every Christmas a neighborhood woman would make our family tamales (which is why Peter felt like he’s opening a 🎁😁 - tamales are a Christmas tradition🎅🎄). It was something I looked forward to every Christmas (though I did eat them year round - there’s even a canned version made by the same company that makes spam... it’s pretty gross, but as a kid I’d mash them with rice). Pretty cool you guys found them in 🇳🇿!!! Gotta say, that sunset was absolutely incredible!! Thanks for the great food and great views! Glad you guys didn’t get lost😁. Safe travels!!

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the beauty of growing up in a mixed cultural environment you get access to so many different types of food 😁👍🤤 sounds like you've been enjoying some quality tamales and some not so quality (canned ones)😂 🫔 the xmas tradition especially would be something to really look forward to every year 🤤 i love trying new foods so was so happy to find nanitas store can only imagine how hard it is sourcing all the ingredients here 😅

Her food looks so beautiful and amazing. We love ancient foods too, and we would LOVE to try her tamales! We enjoy and appreciate sustainable food. what is it like to live life? can you tell me? I have schizophrenia and would like to be normal for at least a day, just to know what it is to be normal. sometimes I think about committing suicide, it is not worth living stuck in my own mind. I can't have a job, date, have my own family. it is not worth living like this.
