This melody reminds me of something you'd hear in 1970s soul jazz. I didn't realize it until I heard the playback. Then, as I was adding the harmonies I was trying to channel the vibe of how they would sound if it was part of George Benson's "Breezin'" album.
Breezin' was written by Bobby Womack. Thought I'd put that out there, as I don't think a lot of people know.
I made a conscious effort to keep my solo minimalist as a foil to Daniel's (the pianist.) I wanted to see how much I could say with just a few notes. I like how it ended up taking the song in a whole new emotional direction.
I can picture this song in as the smooth, funky, and jazzy elevator music in a 1970s movie like, Shaft.
It features Anthony J. Lewis on bass, Daniel Cowans on keys, and (of course) myself on flute. The beat was created by Timian, and was filmed in his Toronto studio timianmusic.com/
I have decided to make a few of the SoulScape episodes available for download. Since we evolved from the original premise of SoulScape (which was snippets of song ideas) to full songs I have had some people ask for that option. The SoulScape Album is being hosted on Bandcamp. It will be an ever-evolving album so check back now and then.
Thanks for the support! It allows me to continue making these.
The guy on the keyboard is amazing

Thanks, Anthony!
That was faaaaaantastic!
This is being hip to its finest.
You guys sure know how to use your silence and dynamics. I like how spaced out the flutes are, both figuratively and in terms of how they aren't constant and rather sparse actually.
cool....
What’s the name of that flute 🎶this whole joint is fire 🔥 bless up🙏🏿
Hi. Thanks! I play on a Buffet Crampon open hole Cooper scale. The headjoint is a Goosman butterfly, though.
First quality, nice shit!
I'm searching for the flute sound Henry Threadgill used on the album Air - Air song. I'm wondering if you know if it's just a decent flute or anything specific. This Groove you have laid down here is fabulous
Thanks! It sounds to me by the low notes he was hitting that it was an alto flute. Also a regular concert flute. Some wooden or bamboo. Most definitely a recorder.
@@jefkearns wicked!!! Thank you for that expertise!
