    I’ve never seen curly hair like yours on anyone else. It looks and behaves like silky smooth straight hair, except it’s not straight. I think that’s why I can’t imagine my curly hair ever looking like yours... seems to me you’re pretty much unique.

      Hi @AnnaMacM, the point is not to get your hair to look exactly like hers. Literally IMPOSSIBLE!!! She is merely sharing her curly girl journey, telling us what works for her, to help us figure out what might work for our hair. I'm sure your -healthy- curls will be just as beautiful... and suited perfectly for you.♥

    I washed with the Jessicurl cream, then Aloeba conditioner that I left in, then Kinky Curly Custard. Then let it air dry for hours (because I always get frizz if I diffuse) and I just now scrunched out the crunch....my hair looks the VERY BEST YET!!! I'm so, so excited!!! The big thing I did differently was to use a comb to make sure my hair strands were all together and coated with product. I always had hairs (lots of them) that didn't want to go into a curl clump. I scrunched in the custard and then combed with my head upside down and then scrunched, flipped my head over and shook and then let it dry. THANKS!!!

    I have been watching (ok, ok, binge watching) your videos and I am beginning to understand that the many nuanced (at times, confusing) tips from curly girls actually have a place! I was overwhelmed by all the new terms I was hearing and my solution was to just ignore what I didn't understand and stick with cgm friendly products and styling products and using a tshirt to dry. It worked for a while but lately my hair has been looking a little sad. I am SO happy I am finally figuring out things like the importance of clarifying and deep conditioning and the difference between different ingredients because of your helpful tips. I thought i was just doomed to have frizzy hair forever but you have inspired hope in me again! Thank you, lovely Courtney!

    basically:
    1. breakage
    2. glycerin - doesnt work well in winter and causes frizz
    3. caused by build up - clarify and deep condition!
    4. over moisturised hair is frizzy (cuticle swells and stands up with too much moisture) feels wet when its not meant to be when its over moisturised - use sulfate shampoo and repair me treatment
    5. too much protein - use sulfate shampoo and deep condition with protein free treatment

    i was slicing radishes on a pampered chef veggie slicer. on the very last one, the very last swipe, i zigged when i zagged and i didn't just slice into my finger, i sliced into and under the nail bed. talk about painful!!! and that puppy bled! my husband kindly helped me bandage it so that I could go back to cooking (rather than taking over, lol). it took so long to heal up. that was in june, and even now, it can be a bit tender when touched wrong. i'm enjoying your videos as at 50, i'm trying to figure out my new curls that came into existence in my 40s after a lifetime of board straight hair.

    This video was timely. I can deal with having more wavy days than curly during transition. In fact I quite like the loose wave look. But the frizz! Ugh. My whole top layer of hair is a poofy frizz ball that doesn't curl well. The good news is I deep conditioned with the inahsi mango hemp the other day and it seemed to help. I went product free that wash day so next wash day I will get to see if it is less frizzy when I style it. This was my first time ever deep conditioning! I have always had an oily scalp but I am getting less oily with age (skin and hair). I really love your videos Courtney! I think I binge watched them all over the last week!

    My favorite clarifying shampoo contains Olefin Sulfonate! And some people on a CG Facebook pace were arguing that it's not CG well I still use it every now and then when I need deeper cleansing. I have most of my Frizz on top of my head which is probably because I had some hair loss about 6-9 months ago and my hair is growing back and it's got that length now where it doesn't want to go into a curl clump unless I put gel on my roots but then my roots look flat and a bit greasy so I decided to accept it :O

    Hey Now Courtney! Loving your vids!
    Old school fix for the cut on your finger: apply a dab of Anbesol to the cut and give it a few minutes to dry and it will numb it for a short bit. (Good for tweezing sensitive brows as well!) Then apply just a dab of Crazy Glue or nail glue and let it dry. It won't burn because of the Anbesol and the glue will seal the cut for a few days till it heals on its own. Old hairdresser and mechanic trick! 💙

    A lesser talked about type of frizz is wet frizz. I Always get wet frizz no matter how much I STC in the shower, in fact the more I STC the more wet frizz I get and thus resulting in poorly formed clumps. Do you have any idea what causes wet frizz and how to reduce it?

      I found really working my conditioner in before STC (rake/smooth motion in sections), using a very wide tooth comb/pic before STC, and brushing with a generic Denman after applying leave-in helped... basically lots of various smoothing motions.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I get a lot of wet frizz when there is product build up on my hair and my hair is dehydrated. If it were me I would clarify, deep condition with the Jessicurl deep treatment. I would really really brush the Jessicurl through my hair, add a bit of warm water to my hair and take 5ish min really squishing and pulsing in the mask. Then leave in on for 30-45 min. Rinse out completely, add a small amount of protein free leave in (1-2 peas). And brush that through my hair with the wet brush again. Add a little water and squish and pulse that in gently. Making sure there is adequate water in my hair when I apply stylers is critical.

    I absolutely love your videos! My teenage daughters hair is soo similar to yours. Seeing your before and after photos has encouraged her to give her hair some love. I would love some suggestions if you or anyone else have any for my hair. I don't know what type of curl pattern I have as far as the number and letter, lol, but I have 1/2" to 1" ringlets. Fine low density. I have only been doing the curly girl method about 5 months, but my hair wasn't necessarily damaged before beginning it. I didn't straighten and babied it to be honest. I was using a silicone condition, but have stopped that. So, my current issue it frizz inside of the curl clumps. Sounds odd, I know. But that's the case. It looks great when I am done diffusing then gets frizzier as the day progresses. I still have definition, but since the frizz is inside of the clump my hair appears flatter. Yet somehow I'm still told by strangers that they love my hair, lol! Sorry for the long comment, but can anyone help? I've used clarifiers, played with protein and moisture balance, etc. Maybe I need new stylers?

    I've been doing the curly girl method now for only 6-8weeks and I'm really struggling to tell what my hair needs.
    I'm thinking about one time doing everything to get protein overload and then a moisture overload to get to know how each of these feels like. Right now, I only know, that my hair is not balanced, but I can't tell if it's too much moisture or protein.
    Do you guys think that this is a bad idea (I'm afraid that this will really damage my hair) or do you think it is worth trying, because then I know what to do when my hair feels a certain way and what it needs. (Of course, when I notice that my hair has a overload, then I'll do a treatment to fix this. It's just to get to know my hair better)
    I hope that it's somehow clear what I mean. English is not my nativ language.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nanami Natsuki ooooo I understand why you want to try pushing your hair into protein over load and moisture overload. And it is your hair, you are welcome to do to it whatever you want. But too much moisture is very damaging. Too much protein is very damaging. It’s probably not a good idea to do it on purpose. Accidents happen, which is why I talk about ways to correct overloads.

    • @manaky8742
      @manaky8742 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney I did some more research. I think my hair lacks both protein and moisture.
      So I think, I will concentrate for now on the moisture part (some of my products have protein in it for example my curl enhancer, so I don't totaly skip on the protein) and when I notice that I have to much moisture, I can add a protein treatment and know then, that I have to use more protein or more often in my routine.
      I think that you are right and I shouldn't damage my hair on purpose. (But sometimes it is so frustrating that this idea seems to be the easiest thing to do) Right now I try to do moisture and protein equally but this is quite hard, when you don't know what your hair needs.
      Thank you so much for your answer! And I think my hair thanks you as well therefore you saved it for damage!

    Like normal I used HE herbal essence honey and vitamin b shampoo, then STC with tresemme botanique conditioner.
    the NEW part was then using DevaCurl BeLeave-in followed by DevaCurl styling cream.
    I have SO much frizz! Maybe I'm glycerin sensitive? But with the dew point today I didn't think that would be an issue - It's 32F here. Maybe I misunderstood your glycerin video?

      So if your hair goes even further into over moisturized territory it can actually feel dry vs wet. It can actually begin to feel brittle too which is not good. When it gets that bad damage and breakage are probably happening.

    Hi! I use a devacurl product, which has glycerin as the second ingredient. I don't get a lot of frizz (a little bit but it's very manageable), would that be because the gel afterwards kind of locks in the moisture? Do you check the differences just by trying out the products? I don't enjoy other humectants as propylene glycol but it could be that i tried it in lower quality products.
