My favorite clarifying shampoo contains Olefin Sulfonate! And some people on a CG Facebook pace were arguing that it's not CG well I still use it every now and then when I need deeper cleansing. I have most of my Frizz on top of my head which is probably because I had some hair loss about 6-9 months ago and my hair is growing back and it's got that length now where it doesn't want to go into a curl clump unless I put gel on my roots but then my roots look flat and a bit greasy so I decided to accept it :O

I have 2c, high porosity, course hair that had been clumping and shiny and awesome..now I have a Halo of frizz out of nowhere. Ugh
Hey Now Courtney! Loving your vids! Old school fix for the cut on your finger: apply a dab of Anbesol to the cut and give it a few minutes to dry and it will numb it for a short bit. (Good for tweezing sensitive brows as well!) Then apply just a dab of Crazy Glue or nail glue and let it dry. It won't burn because of the Anbesol and the glue will seal the cut for a few days till it heals on its own. Old hairdresser and mechanic trick! 💙
You have beautiful curls! I am still working on my wavy hair... Probably 3 steps forward and 2 steps back because I need to pull my hair back for work (physical therapist)... 😭😭😭
A lesser talked about type of frizz is wet frizz. I Always get wet frizz no matter how much I STC in the shower, in fact the more I STC the more wet frizz I get and thus resulting in poorly formed clumps. Do you have any idea what causes wet frizz and how to reduce it?
Gwendolyn Dodge i experience the same! Ive been on CGM in almost a year and since i started doing STC my hair started to get crazy frizz and bad curls. Now my hair dont do the same as it did before, idk what to do....
Great question! I noticed a lot of wet frizz tonight after I washing my hair. (I let it air dry then without products, planning to style in the morning.)
I found really working my conditioner in before STC (rake/smooth motion in sections), using a very wide tooth comb/pic before STC, and brushing with a generic Denman after applying leave-in helped... basically lots of various smoothing motions.
I get a lot of wet frizz when there is product build up on my hair and my hair is dehydrated. If it were me I would clarify, deep condition with the Jessicurl deep treatment. I would really really brush the Jessicurl through my hair, add a bit of warm water to my hair and take 5ish min really squishing and pulsing in the mask. Then leave in on for 30-45 min. Rinse out completely, add a small amount of protein free leave in (1-2 peas). And brush that through my hair with the wet brush again. Add a little water and squish and pulse that in gently. Making sure there is adequate water in my hair when I apply stylers is critical.
So, because of the finicky nature of glycerin products, I've always wondered if there worth the trouble, or if you can just get by without them, OR if they are something your hair actually needs. Thoughts?
Karissa Thatcher so I think that is up to you. Some of my best ever hair days have been days when I use Glycerin in good dew points. But I’ve had pretty good hair days without them. 🤷🏼♀️
Ouch! I feel your pain. last year I had a similar injury but I actually cut some of my fingertips off, about a half inch circle on the pad of 2 fingers. These are a biatch to heal, please give yourself the time to heal. Mine took about 3 months. Sorry if that's gross. Oh, and btw, Giovanni has changed their Smooth as Silk formulation, both the shampoo and the conditioner now contain glycerin and the shampoo has a silicone. Not sure if this is only the European market, but better check the labels before you repurchase. Bear hugs! 🤗🤗🤗
I just tried sleeping with coconut oil on my hair. After I washed it out my hair looked good wet but as it started to dry it started frizzling up again… sigh
I know you did a video featuring really affordable products (the suave co-wash and la looks gel) but I know you weren’t particularly happy with those products (at least not enough to use them regularly yourself.) I would love to see a video featuring really affordable products that are also decent to good quality. Is such a thing even possible?
Sharon Peckham haha I would definitely say Giovanni is really really worth the money. I’ve seen their products in my local natural grocers store all around the $8 mark.
I absolutely love your videos! My teenage daughters hair is soo similar to yours. Seeing your before and after photos has encouraged her to give her hair some love. I would love some suggestions if you or anyone else have any for my hair. I don't know what type of curl pattern I have as far as the number and letter, lol, but I have 1/2" to 1" ringlets. Fine low density. I have only been doing the curly girl method about 5 months, but my hair wasn't necessarily damaged before beginning it. I didn't straighten and babied it to be honest. I was using a silicone condition, but have stopped that. So, my current issue it frizz inside of the curl clumps. Sounds odd, I know. But that's the case. It looks great when I am done diffusing then gets frizzier as the day progresses. I still have definition, but since the frizz is inside of the clump my hair appears flatter. Yet somehow I'm still told by strangers that they love my hair, lol! Sorry for the long comment, but can anyone help? I've used clarifiers, played with protein and moisture balance, etc. Maybe I need new stylers?
I've been doing the curly girl method now for only 6-8weeks and I'm really struggling to tell what my hair needs. I'm thinking about one time doing everything to get protein overload and then a moisture overload to get to know how each of these feels like. Right now, I only know, that my hair is not balanced, but I can't tell if it's too much moisture or protein. Do you guys think that this is a bad idea (I'm afraid that this will really damage my hair) or do you think it is worth trying, because then I know what to do when my hair feels a certain way and what it needs. (Of course, when I notice that my hair has a overload, then I'll do a treatment to fix this. It's just to get to know my hair better) I hope that it's somehow clear what I mean. English is not my nativ language.
Nanami Natsuki ooooo I understand why you want to try pushing your hair into protein over load and moisture overload. And it is your hair, you are welcome to do to it whatever you want. But too much moisture is very damaging. Too much protein is very damaging. It’s probably not a good idea to do it on purpose. Accidents happen, which is why I talk about ways to correct overloads.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I did some more research. I think my hair lacks both protein and moisture. So I think, I will concentrate for now on the moisture part (some of my products have protein in it for example my curl enhancer, so I don't totaly skip on the protein) and when I notice that I have to much moisture, I can add a protein treatment and know then, that I have to use more protein or more often in my routine. I think that you are right and I shouldn't damage my hair on purpose. (But sometimes it is so frustrating that this idea seems to be the easiest thing to do) Right now I try to do moisture and protein equally but this is quite hard, when you don't know what your hair needs. Thank you so much for your answer! And I think my hair thanks you as well therefore you saved it for damage!
I love love LOVE your videos. You’ve inspired me to embrace my curls. I’ve been binge watching your videos. That being said, I’m a newbie and my hair is THIRSTY. What do you recommend in the beginning for hydration. I’ve gone and bought a few of your recommendations such as the Giovanni shampoo/conditioner, curls blueberry bliss, and All about curls bouncy cream. I just need more hydration. Thank you and God bless.
She has recommended the jessiecurl line in the beginning for moisture. She says it's too hydrating for her hair now. The zotos professional all about curl line is also very hydrating.
No problem! She didn't recommend the zotos line, but I've been trying to do CG for almost 3 weeks and started with the zotos shampoo and I quickly had to find some protein bc my hair got overly hydrated after 2 washes! I didn't have any heat or color damage starting out tho.
Do you a teaspoon total of product if you use more than one product or is it a teaspoon of each product? For example a teaspoon of curl enhancer and teaspoon of strong hold gel or teaspoon of both together? Thank you, this was a very helpful video.
If my hair is "straight" not sure yet. And t It always looks like chopped no matter what. What is that? Is it considered frizz? I never use heat or anything that can damage my hair
Are you a hairstylist? I just have to say, after watching a ton of your videos as a hairstylist myself, you are very knowledgeable about hair. I’m really impressed! Thanks for your videos!
I tried a few new products today and my hair is awful! Like normal I used HE herbal essence honey and vitamin b shampoo, then STC with tresemme botanique conditioner. the NEW part was then using DevaCurl BeLeave-in followed by DevaCurl styling cream. I have SO much frizz! Maybe I'm glycerin sensitive? But with the dew point today I didn't think that would be an issue - It's 32F here. Maybe I misunderstood your glycerin video?
You talk about the cooler temperatures making a difference in your hair. Aren't you in Texas? Does it even get cool there? I'm in Minnesota and I think the high temp today is 37. Do you have a video on how to keep warm in winter without smashing our curls? When I wear a hat I get frizz and squished curls.
Haha yes it gets cooler here (maybe not COLD, but we go from 100+ degrees down into the 50s in the fall and down into the 30s in the winter) I really like using a satin lined beanie. Helps a lot! And using a cream under my gels helps too.
Hi Courtney! Do you have any other deep conditioner recommendations? Because I tried to look for the mango hemp one and it’s all sold out so pls let me know! P.s asking this because I want to start the cgm!
Chelsea Pickslay haha not sure why it’s looking darker. I haven’t done anything to it. I guess it’s just that time of year. My hair gets darker in the fall/winter.
I tried finding your glycerin and dew point video but i didnt see it :( can you link it for me? I have no idea how dew points and glycerin come into play lol. Thanks so much for your videos! They have helped me so much on my journey!💗
So I’ve a 2a/2b wavy hair and I just started taking care of it and it’s forming very pretty curls at the end even without any styling products but my hair is dull and not shiny at all got some frizz but not much and it’s not that dry to the touch I’m treating it from hair loss as per the doctor prescription and have genetic dandruff also treating that so any tips on the hair dullness ?
My curls fall quickly and look *exactly* like in your over moisturize picture, but my hair is also pretty dry (I swim twice a week and have naturally dry hair). I do deep condition weekly, and takes forever to dry, but my hair doesn't feel like you describe. Do you know what's up? Please help!
So if your hair goes even further into over moisturized territory it can actually feel dry vs wet. It can actually begin to feel brittle too which is not good. When it gets that bad damage and breakage are probably happening.
If you swim in a chlorine pool you may want to try a swimmer's shampoo and/or conditioner. Also wetting your hair with tap water is supposed to help prevent the pool chemicals from getting into your hair.
So it could possibly be over moisturized when it seems too dry and brittle??? And not need moisture but need protein ... I wonder what’s a tell tell sign between that kind of moisture issue or drying issue how to differentiate
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Great! I am looking for a storebought gel to try as I usually just use homemade flaxseed gel. But that is hard to travel with due to spoilage!
Help!!! I have fine, 2a-2b wavy hair. I just started my cgm journey recently.... 2nd day hair... is dry and frizzy and full of tangles. I don’t know what to do with it other than put it in a ponytail 😐. What are some good tips for
My hair is medium to thick and super dense plus like to the length of my hip... I've had like one good hair day that was ruined because I had a migraine at work so I had to pull my hair back... How do you come back from a pulled back hairstyle without a wash, and also do you know any curl friends I may be able to get advice more specific to my hair? It's also around your same curl pattern size if that makes sense too
Sara Schriner you should check out @coffeecurlygirl on Instagram. And I just pull my hair back with an invisobobble. It doesn’t pull my hair too tight.
Hi! I use a devacurl product, which has glycerin as the second ingredient. I don't get a lot of frizz (a little bit but it's very manageable), would that be because the gel afterwards kind of locks in the moisture? Do you check the differences just by trying out the products? I don't enjoy other humectants as propylene glycol but it could be that i tried it in lower quality products. Thank you
My hair is like Velcro and very brittle on the bottom and a few other areas. The other sections of my hair will stretch about 3 inches and not snap back. I have no Idea how this happened and have just started the Curly Girl method 2 weeks ago. What would you suggest to fix that?
So if you just started the CGM it is highly likely that your hair will be moisture starved for a while. Jessicurl products (shampoos, conditioners, stylers, masks) were very very helpful to me during the transition phase.
@@SwavyCurlyCourtneyThanks for your response! So I only need to know what the dew point is to know if it is a good day for glycerin products then? Someone in a video (which I now can't find😫) said glycerin either pulls moisture from the air into your hair, or out of your hair into the atmosphere, depending on the dewpoint, but it was worse for higher porosity hair (I think? I forget now.) Since I'm still figuring out my hair porisity i was worried about using glycerin, but now I'm gonna give it a go. Thank you!
Plopping worked sometimes for me but sometimes mashed my curls in the tshirt. Any tips since it helped your hair? I just bought the perfect hair care towel and I am going to try plopping again today. Here's hoping!

Then I "clip" the roots with Bobby pins for about 10 -15 minutes just to help add volume. After my hair is mostly dry, I flip and scrunch off the cast.

sugrmag3 thank you!!!!
I think I might be watching this video for like the third time but it was MUCH needed!🙈
PS I just love the energy of your entire channel!! ❤️
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney OK, thank you!
eek! I love your name! We should be curly friends!
Bear hugs! 🤗🤗🤗
Rebekka Hay oh no, I just got the conditioner, whyyyyy Giovanni 😭😭😭
Sorry if I am missing this! Could you make a video if you don’t already have one about how to not end up with “crunchy” curly girl hair? Thank youuuu!
I just tried sleeping with coconut oil on my hair. After I washed it out my hair looked good wet but as it started to dry it started frizzling up again… sigh
Extremely helpful channel! Courtney, thank you a lot from me and my waves 🤩
Hi Courtney! Do you have any updates to this "older" video as far as products that replace the Inahsi? Thanks! I appreciate you!! :)
Would you still suggest those Inhasi products for a clarifying wash? You didn't mention that shampoo in your newest video.
The way you say *gasp* is one of my favorite things. It makes me giggle every time 😂👏🏻♥️
Brand new to your channel! Love your videos, extremely informative! I’ve been binge watching your videos cuz they are sooo good🤩
I've been doing the curly girl method now for only 6-8weeks and I'm really struggling to tell what my hair needs.
It's just to get to know my hair better)
I hope that it's somehow clear what I mean.
Use the vibration scalp brush instead of ur fingers!!! I love that thing!!! Thanks 4 the video!!!
My hair looks fantastic because of your Tipps! You are so professionell thank you for all that ♡♡♡
Your hair looks great in this video, so no need to wash! Where did you get that cardigan? I’m on the hunt for the perfect one.
Jocelyn Rodriguez oh thank you! This cardigan came from stitch fix. I’m not sure exactly where to buy it.
Your hair looks amazing! That volume too!
How do you know how much product to put in your hair? How do know if its too much or too little
you just have to test it out
Twist your hair while styling and if product oozes out you are using too much
I love love LOVE your videos.
I guess I missed that. Thanks girl :)
My water is extremely hard. It builds up on my hair after only two weeks. It's really bad.
If my hair is "straight" not sure yet. And t
It always looks like chopped no matter what. What is that? Is it considered frizz? I never use heat or anything that can damage my hair
Thanks Courtney. I’ve tried everything. I always get frizz. I don’t like the feel of gel on my hair. I braid it now. And it works for me
I like your shirt 🙌 also thanks for the video, really battling frizz rn haha
My frizz problem is due to the new hair growth. They are just growing direction sun. Any suggestions for that? I have tried wax, spray, EVERYTHING
So helpful, thankyou. Its such a minefield of information. I need to cleanse my hair and start over I think. Xxx
I have a very similar hair type to you and I'm struggling with getting my hair balanced😪
Have you ever tried the hask argon deep conditioner? Was curious if it is a good one? Love your videos!
Laura Lee Mest yeah, but it was a very very long time ago! 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ I didn’t feel like it was spectacular.
You've got great volume today!! 😍
@curlyandkind has satin-lined beanies that might help
Haha yes it gets cooler here (maybe not COLD, but we go from 100+ degrees down into the 50s in the fall and down into the 30s in the winter) I really like using a satin lined beanie. Helps a lot! And using a cream under my gels helps too.
Hi Courtney! Do you have any other deep conditioner recommendations? Because I tried to look for the mango hemp one and it’s all sold out so pls let me know!
P.s asking this because I want to start the cgm!
Hmmmm I really love the Jessicurl deep conditioner (link in my amazon shop)
Swavy Curly Courtney Thank you 😊!!
So what do I say when people tell me my hair looks bad even though I spent alot of time trying to minimize the frizz?
I braid my hair or do any hairstyle and people will be amazed even if its frizzy 🤣
Geat video! Now I need a tutorial on how you made the Xtava magnetic! Where did you get the little round magnets?
C Land I think the magnets she used is in her amazon shopping suggestion thing.
@@nosillarva Found em! Ordered and recd!! Now I need to find the right glue & I'll be set! Thank you!!
You look sooooo beautiful, Courtney! Thank you for educating us on the frizz 😁 Also, your hair seems darker in this video?
Chelsea Pickslay haha not sure why it’s looking darker. I haven’t done anything to it. I guess it’s just that time of year. My hair gets darker in the fall/winter.
I tried finding your glycerin and dew point video but i didnt see it :( can you link it for me? I have no idea how dew points and glycerin come into play lol. Thanks so much for your videos! They have helped me so much on my journey!💗
NaturalCurly.com has a really good explanation of this :)
Can you tell me more about how the Suave clarifying shampoo helps with hard water? Thank you!
Lisa Tuinenga it is the EDTA in it.
In that state you should try a protein treatment
If you swim in a chlorine pool you may want to try a swimmer's shampoo and/or conditioner. Also wetting your hair with tap water is supposed to help prevent the pool chemicals from getting into your hair.
So it could possibly be over moisturized when it seems too dry and brittle??? And not need moisture but need protein ... I wonder what’s a tell tell sign between that kind of moisture issue or drying issue how to differentiate
Any tips for how to prevent or fix the frizz that comes from rubbing against coats and scarves? Winter is killing my hair.
Oof that is tough! Sooooo you might try finding a silk scarf to wrap around you neck to prevent so much friction.
Also, have you tried the Inahsi Coconut Avocado Curl Defining Gel?
Karissa Thatcher I have tried their custard. I really really love it!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Great! I am looking for a storebought gel to try as I usually just use homemade flaxseed gel. But that is hard to travel with due to spoilage!
I cant find the Curl junkie protein treatment anywhere. It is no longer available on Amazon. Where do I find it?
I got mine on the curljunkie.com website.
Can i use apple cider vinegar to clarify since i cant find those products where i live
Help!!! I have fine, 2a-2b wavy hair. I just started my cgm journey recently.... 2nd day hair... is dry and frizzy and full of tangles. I don’t know what to do with it other than put it in a ponytail 😐. What are some good tips for
A better 2nd hair day!? 😊
I am allergic to lavender, rosemary and clove, dang it
My hair is medium to thick and super dense plus like to the length of my hip...
Thank you
Aline Marchioro does the gel contain glycerin?
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney there is but it's not at the top of the list, it's mainly polymers (I use eco styler)
how could I stop my roots from getting too curly and unmanageable?
My hair is like Velcro and very brittle on the bottom and a few other areas. The other sections of my hair will stretch about 3 inches and not snap back. I have no Idea how this happened and have just started the Curly Girl method 2 weeks ago. What would you suggest to fix that?
Crystal Augustein yeah, the stretch test doesn’t work for me either. My hair always stretches forever. That is why I go off of feel.
So if you just started the CGM it is highly likely that your hair will be moisture starved for a while. Jessicurl products (shampoos, conditioners, stylers, masks) were very very helpful to me during the transition phase.
Thanks I needed this!
Sounds weird, but when I have cracks on my fingers, I use super glue. It works wonders!
Apple Vida vinegar is my best friend
any summary or time stamps?? I can t watch all this...
I love it when you *gasp* hahaha
Lol!! Me too!🤣
is a keratin treatment not good for wavy hair? will it make my hair straight?
Hallelujah to you too!!!
Do you pineapple to sleep and use a silk pillowcase?
Jen Goddard I do! 👍🏻
Is using glycerin in certain dew point levels related to hair porosity?
marisadaniela6 no
@@SwavyCurlyCourtneyThanks for your response! Thank you!
Video idea: what are your holy grails that have changed your hair? Example: plopping. Plopping my hair totally changes my outcome.
Elizabeth Passini love it!!! Thank you’
Plopping worked sometimes for me but sometimes mashed my curls in the tshirt. Any tips since it helped your hair? I just bought the perfect hair care towel and I am going to try plopping again today. Here's hoping!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney We have very similar hair and from your videos I've tried Olaplex and a Denman brush. Both have transformed my hair. And I thought "I wonder if other people have holy grail hair breakthroughs like that"
@@marisadaniela6 I have a one of those hair turbine things that make wrapping your hair up super easy. It's a jersey/t-shirt material. I plop in that for 20 minutes, shake it out and add spray gel. Then I "clip" the roots with Bobby pins for about 10 -15 minutes just to help add volume. After my hair is mostly dry, I flip and scrunch off the cast.
Third comment here! We are getting earllly. Love you
when you say clarify, do you mean you used the shampoo? Cuz i just thought you werent suposed to use shampoo wen you do the cg method. but i havent started it yet but want to.
Is the Suave Clarifying better or the same as Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo? I’ve been using come clean when I clarify every month, I use Jessicurl deep conditioner, and I still have frizz. I use bounce curl shampoo and conditioner for regular washes
No one talks about frizzy hair in a cold desert. ONLY HUMIDITY. So annoying. Help us desert people out
Just starting the CG method!! My hair has been very frizzy so I'm excited to take your recommendations on my next wash! Does anyone have any recommendations for extremely tangled hair?? I tried finger detangling while my conditioner and/or deep conditioning mask was in, but my hair get tangled within minutes of getting out of the shower. And by the following day my entire head is a giant knot. Is there anything obvious I am missing??
This is an old comment. Did you figure it out? Do you use a leave-in conditioner? That might help. :-)
2:38 I feel attacked
I have a question. My hair hates protein. I just used the jessicurl deep conditioner and my hair has reacted like it has protein overload. Can anyone tell me why?
FRIZZIFIED!!!!
