- Hey guys! Please don't be shocked by the title, and watch the whole video though it may be boring. This is a follow-up video from the video I previously made: Why I Love the Filipino English Accent. I wanted to dig deeper into this topic (but not too much since then I don't think anyone would watch the video) to bring awareness about the toxic stereotypes that divides the world when all we want is just peace. FACT:
1. The first indoor gym in Korea which until this day is still being used as concert venues was designed by a Filipino, done by Filipino workers Donated by the Philippine Government.
2 The US Embassy in Seoul was designed by a filipino and done by filipino workers.
3. Another building which escapes my mind right now, a government building was again designed and done by a Filipino architect andworkers
4. The bridge was done by Filipino engineers and workers.
5. Filipino soldiers and one commandant who happens to be Ex Philippine President Ramos led in helping the koreans win the war.
6. Why do you think the Philippines is the CallCenter capital of Asia? Precisely because of the proficiency in English and their accent is the most understandable accent.
7. Why do you think artists like Leah Salonga and all the singers and even those who sing in karaoke’s pronounce the lyrics crystal clear that you no longer need translations?
Before Koreans even look down on Filipinos because of their accents. They should learn to pronounce a simple english word properly first before they even dare. That actress who mocked and thinks the filipino accent that she mimicked wasn’t even close to a filipino accent!!! She was referring to a thai accent!
I’m not Filipino. I am European, my mom is part american. I’ve been to the Philippines and they don’t deserve such crap considering that every corner you turn there’s a korean grocery or restaurant in Manila and the suburbs. If koreans feel that the Filipino accent is not at par with the American or European Accent then stop going to the Philippines to learn English. Such hypocrisy.

I'm from California, I use to work at a company that was 70% Korean employees 90% of them can't speak and understand English. But when you talk with Filipino most of them can talk and understand English.
And their Korean English accent is way too hard to understand if you’ll compare it with Filipino English accent. 🙌🏼

So? its not a revelation. But the sad truth, the English proficiency in the Philippines is in a steady decline, with most Filipinos proud of getting their nose bleeding when being spoken to in English.
Some Koreans mock Filipino's English Accent but can't do it themselves. However, some Americans (who are obviously native English speakers) praise Filipino's Accents and Fluency.

This is so true. My family and I had a 17-hour stopover in South Korea and we took a free tour. Our tour guide was so strict about time. She said that if we didn't get back to the bus at the right time, she would leave us behind. So, instead of being able to enjoy S. Korea, we were just pressed for time. Not only that, Philippines serves one of the best education for learning English language. I can personally say that because my father is an English teacher and I'm so proud of him. And for the record, many Korean students went to our country to study so I hope those kinds of hypocrite people who discriminates not only our accents, but also our entire race would shut their freaking mouths up cause someday, we Filipinos, will show them what we are truly made of. Grr tumataas talaga ang altapresyon ko sa mga ganitong issues! Yung mga pang ba-bash ng mga tao na galing sa ibang bansa tungkol sa accent nating mga Pilipino ay talagang nakakainis. As a writer and a self-proclaimed poet, malaking sampal to para samin especially that we mostly used English language not only for aesthetic purposes but also because we simply loved it at somehow we can comfortably express ourselves because maraming terms and words na hindi basta-bastang ma e-express in Filipino language. Well said. Two decades ago, an American criticized my English and his mother reprimanded him, saying: "if someone cannot speak English as good as you, a native one, it means he can speak at least two languages, unlike you just one. Then, who is better, you or him?"

As a native English speaker that regularly works in Korea, I think her English speaking and articulation is better than 99% of Koreans. Props to the Phillipines!
Here’s the thing, when it comes to history and richness, Philippines was once crowned as the melting pot of Asia where all cultures and races simply blend into each other without a need for prejudice or unnecessary judgement. Filipinos by nature are very welcoming and warm. But despite being patriotic, Filipinos learn the word RESPECT and RIGHTS at an early age which other people seem to fall short of. I am a Filipino and I am proud to be one accent or no accent, the mockery and sarcastic comments about me, my people, our country and our home only shows the lack of education and proper upbringing some people has and it’s not on us. If you see a Filipino being rude or condescending, then you might have done something to irritate or hurt them. So please, before you speak against my country, make sure that your knowledge and wisdom is greater than your ignorance.

It just sad how Filipino love Korean culture and everything but in return they criticize Filipino in many ways.
that's when the problem started. Because we have treated and imitated their culture and we lost ours. That's why they look inferior at us, same with america who look down to asians bec most of us have adored hollywood culture. I think the only country in asia that everyone has high regard is Japan bec they have built their own identity and globalized their influence without copying others. Much of korean pop culture were evidently derived from Japan, Taiwan and the US!

If you want to hear the full English American accent of Filipinos, try to talk to some call centers here in PH. ✌🏻
call center agents are actually better in terms of grammar and accent than american english. american english is the most broken and at times stupidly wrong. my english teacher is the one who told me that americans are only fast in talking in english but Filipino english is the one that really follows the proper way of using english. like by the book english and not slang english.

They can tell that you have a Filipino accent when they can hear us speaking english clearly.. Like they can understand each word, though.
Because Filipinos didn't learn just to learn how to speak English but also how to pronounce it correctly, and to construct a sentence with a correct grammar, too.

Precisely that's the point. Filipinos are very particular with correct grammar and pronunciation. We don't eat words when we speak english. We pronounce them clearly. We have a natural English accent. We don't pretend to be Americans or British. It is how koreans dream of themselves when they speak english. Lastly, to some koreans who belittle Filipinos don't you dare go to the Philippines to learn english. I was once an english teacher in a korean school here in the Philippines so I know that there are many koreans who come to my country simply to learn how to speak and write English. They even enroll in online english classes. Yes, I would like to thank those Korean people for believing in us. You are truly appreciated.

In fact, some are being "grammar nazis" because we learn the proper tenses and all. I remember when I was a kid, I read in the subtitle of an english movie "you was okay?", and asked my older sisters why the grammar was incorrect.

I may not be able to provide an orthodox view on how Koreans view Filipinos, but as an American- part Indonesian who find this disturbing and have been in both countries, I can uphold the actuality that Koreans look at the South East Asians as economically substandard and they consider that skin color is the symbol of everyone's current state of living which basically means if your darker you're poorer, and I kinda find that ridiculous in terms of beliefs and values.
Filipinos (some) are obviously inlove with Korea's products, maybe those who are engaged with Kpop or Kdramas I don' t know, could be classified in that border. In the Philippines, maybe only 50% of their population that are not that attached with Korean culture are just co-existing with them but not hating (which is important). So it' s confusing how do Koreans (let's be honest most of them, not some) could set those belittling comments and mindsets towards the South East Asians in general.
And about this video, well, my university hired a couple of Filipino teachers to amend the students (including us) fluency on our own language, So.... I won' t make a stand proving that Filipinos are way much more desirable english speaker than Koreans, because that's an obvious case.
So they are basically racist toward Filipinos. But hey don’t worry, they don’t really have many positive views toward almost any of their Asian counterparts and their such opinions don’t really matter.
Stay on that brand of hospitality, no matter where you come from, be proud of your legacy and have a happy life. :-)

Their English accent is very easy to understand for me(I'm Japanese), so I love it.
I'm american and if I had to be honest, the filipino accent is probably one of the most understandable accents. plus Filipinos are very easy to talk to and they're so outgoing.
okay, since this is getting a lot of attention I'll list down some stuff.
=> compared to other countries, filipino diction makes words easier to understand since you put emphasis on vowels.
=> it's so nice to talk to filipinos because you guys are confident in your english skills so the conversation is a lot more smooth.
=> filipino parties are the BEST. i was at a fil party once and thought i would be excluded since i wouldn't get the jokes but it was the complete opposite. filipino humor is top level and i felt very included.

I remembered what my Aunts Australian Husband said to me while we were talking about Kpop. He first asked me why I like Kpop, when infact, Most of the Koreans he knows in Australia belittle filipinos. He then asked why I would love something who thinks so little of us Filipinos. From that day on I swore I’ll never listen to any Kpop songs nor watch any kdramas ever again. But Sandara Park made me go back to listening to Kpop and watching kdramas again. It’s because she has always been appreciative and loving of anything filipino. That is why I can only listen to 2ne1 and Bigbangs songs.
But hearing all of these stories again reminded me of that conversation I had with my Australian uncle. And it made me feel so sad. Truly, no matter how you love something or someone, it doesn’t mean they or it will love you back. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Don’t judge 60 million individuals because someone told you someone said something about your country. Especially on the internet, lots of fake, extremely toxic things said online when in reality people are very nice.
As a Korean who learned English in the Philippines, i got a lot of those too. I think it isn’t only about the Philippines, but about non-western countries, specifically Southeast Asian countries. Personally, I believe ability to learn and speak fluent English is irrelevant to the country. It differs by the person. But I guess, it isn’t to many people.
Most of the times i tell people I studied abroad then say ‘from the Philippines’, they give the ‘oh…’ look and say that I sound native or that I speak fluent English. After I graduate uni and went back to Korea to work, I was asked about Philippines every interviews and some of them even laughed when I answered how much do I expect to be paid. The exact words were ‘you wouldn’t get that much even if you graduated/lived in the US.’ When I heard such comments (sounds american) in high school, I took it as a compliment. But as I started to search for job opportunities, I felt even humiliated few times. And, most of those humiliations were from english speakers who studies in the western cultures. Some of them are super proud and they think less of English speakers who learned in Asian countries. They are not even aware such comments are so rude and inappropriate. Those people think what they have learned is the “real” thing. Most of people who are not fluent in English that I’ve met rather told me that they think of Philippines as a good opportunity to learn English and experience different cultures. So.. The irony, huh? Haha 😂

Learning another language is an entirely different talent. This is why they are impressed with people who speak their language because most of them didn't even know how to speak the languages in places they travel to.

I agree. I'm from the Philippines, and we have an Indian neighbor, and they are really good at speaking English and it's very clear. I think the countries with the highest English proficiency in Asia is definitely Singapore, Philippines, India and Malaysia.
Indian people especially Indian women now a days are good in IT and businesses. Indians in Singapore as well are very conversant in English. They are very good in English. I don't care about accent. I am Filipino and they told me I look Indian :)

lol I've been in the Philippines for 6times, I was shock that the street vendors and even street kids can speak basic english there, its not perfect tho but their english is so easy to understand. I love Philippines!

Tagalog was my first language, but once I entered kindergarten I had to speak English. Father said to us ‘dito tayo sa America, speak English.’ In HS my girlfriends spoke Tagalog. I remember responding in the language and my friend barked back at me…’Don’t speak Tagalog, you have a STRONG American accent.’ Nothing wrong w/vocabulary or grammar just my accent. Stopped speaking Tagalog that day, except w/my mom. FF to my 30’s, I decided I wanted to learn Tagalog. Enrolled in a college class. Prof ask why I was there because my Tagalog was strong. Told him my story. His response… what accent?! 🤪

Thank you for your kind words. I'm a naturalized Filipino-American, living in TX. I was born & raised in the Philippines. I also have Filipino accent when I migrated in the 90's. I'm slowly losing it now because I learned to adapt in American accent. Americans appreciate how crisp and articulate my English words are. Much more, when I write in English, it's grammatically correct. I credit my English education in the Philippines. So, if some Koreans doesn't like Filipino English, because it's not Americanized or British, they should not go to the Philippines. They should stop mocking us because most of them hardly speak or understand English. They should listen to other Asian countries speaking in English, i.e, Singaporean, Japanese, Thailand, Indian, and find out the difference. I think it's more of ignorance & just plain stupidity!

Remember that among the 25 Asian Nations who can speak English proficiency, the Philippines is number 2, and accent is not necessarily needed to express the one's thoughts. Maybe we don't have British and American accent but the way Filipino speak is more clearer than any other accent. Honestly in school we have this strict policy that required us to speak in english the whole time while we are in school premise and that's way more difficult because Filipinos are grammar critics. 😏

I know there are many Filipinos around the world including Korea that Filipinos work as Nannies, Househelper, caregivers, nurses and more. May those who experience how the Filipinos take care of the Koreans be like you in spreading the good things about the Filipinos. Many non speaking in english nationals were surprised when they are in the Philippines as they see that everyone as literally everyone can speak English. If the Koreans will check the English structure, most of the time the FIlipino speak more correctly of the English language than Americans and British. This was mentioned to me by my officemate in a project. I was assigned in UK for several months and got to kmow some of the people I work with. My officemate one time talk to me and since she is studying other languages, German she is good in English compared to our other officemates. She says she noticed how I usually correct my words making sure I use past tense and correct connotations when her fellow British doesn't speak correct english. I actually applied a lot of times in S. Korea as an English teacher. I have been teaching for 10 years, have all the qualifications that a company or a school would require as an English teacher. However, because I am from the Philippines, I got rejected a couple of times. Tried my luck in Japan, and here I am, teaching English in the land of the rising sun for 3 years.
And then they enroll online for English class and ends up having Filipino teachers, lol.

Filipinos have mixed accent. Being a customer representative I speak depends to the person I speak with. Some filipinos can speak british, canadian, american or even aussie accent, in short we are good in mimicking accent. I also had a filipino friend way back 2016 who can speak queen’s english which is so hard to learn for some native english speaker.

Our accent depends on who we are talking to. Idk but as a Filipino, I am not comfortable speaking English with an accent whenever I am talking with my co-Pinoy but once you see or hear us talk every oral recitation or during a speech, you'd be amazed by how good our accent is.

This is exactly , the word “accent” existed for how it means is because it differs from which country you are from. Regardless of what language you’re interested in learning, there will never be such thing as perfect accent. When you are studying a certain language, you are learning the language not the accent as it only comes along with it. This is why language is the only tool that is sharpened when used. You are not sharpening the accent, you are sharpening the language you are trying to learn. ❤️

One of the reasons call centers are booming in the Philippines is because Filipino English is more understandable than other accents out there.We use American English. Most Koreans on the other hand so far speak English with distinct accent which is quite hard to understand. And our accent depends most likely on who we are speaking with. The most used ones being mocked at like Manny Pacquiao's is the accent from people who arent that much into speaking English but can still speak decent English. And no matter what Koreans say about the accent they still choose to study here and that all that matters. Bottom line they still appreciate our language. Only the boastful ones belittle Filipino English.

Which reminds me, I had my 5 hour lay over in Korea (airport) before flying to Manila. Since the airport was big, it was kind of hard to be walking around with your handcarry so I asked an assistance from their helpdesk. Their crew was very kind and helped me a lot. She can speak English and I thought if she studied in the Philippines because of the way she talks and communicates with me is kind of a filipino signature🙂. Her English was not really that of an american accent but my, she has been concise and gives her all at work. What I mean is, why does it (accent) matter most? What matters most should be the diligence of one to be able to do the job right.

I learned how to embrace my Filipino accent. Even after living in the United States for almost 21 years, every once in a while, my native tongue will roll into a Filipino accent. My opinion is that if your accent is understandable and does not interfere with the message you are attempting to express, it is OK. If your accent and pronunciation are so bad that it interferes with how you communicate with others and how they understand you, you may need to consider developing a more 'clear' sounding accent. I used to have a thick Filipino English accent, but I changed it to Canadian not because I was embarrassed of it, but because people around me at work were having difficulty understanding me.
Just a tip for us filipinos here, if you're capable of speaking and understanding english on a conversational level, then you're all good! Don't let those people who discriminate you rob you of your confidence of speaking english. Because whether you're a Filipino, Korean or even American, english is not the measurement of intelligence and success 😁

Filipinos speak the best English in Asia. The neutral accent is definitely a plus in clarity and comprehension. That's why we have Asian students rushing to study English here. I love watching international dramas, but to be really fcking honest, Koreans, Thai, and Chinese are the hardest to understand when it comes to their English accent.
In the Philippines, we even have a *LOT* of Korean students who go to our country just to learn English. Lastly, I've never seen any Koreans who were invited to host Miss Universe, while there were already several Filipinos who hosted international and universal pageants.

No worries, not all Filipinos take offense over their Filipino Accent. I personally am proud of my Filipino accent. Don't get me wrong, I've worked in the BPO industry for several years so I can honestly say that I sounded just like a native speaker back in the day. Later on, I just grew tired of it. Since I'm no longer required to use the accent nor adapt an American name just so we can prevent issues and discrimination while at work unlike back in 2004, I realized I wanted to adapt my Filipino accent back.
However, it was the softened version as I was still required to sound neutral. True enough, I had numerous callers who appreciated me for being a Filipino. There was even this one time where I got complimented for having a 'Filipino Neutral Accent'. She recognized right away that I am a Filipino and liked me more for it. She said I sounded like a CNN Broadcaster who's a "Filipino" and that I was very articulate. She also said she loves speaking to Filipinos because we are quick to pick up, polite, friendly and easy to understand.
So for me, having a Filipino accent while speaking english fluently makes a Filipino look more intelligent because it ONLY proves how quick our thought processes is. Imagine how fast our minds work from translating what we heard into Filipino, thinking of a response in Filipino, then translating it back to english before speaking it out, with the ability to switch back and forth different accents at will to boost. I actually think that is amazing.
I think, it is now time to move forward and stop ourselves from trying to prove something each time just to compesate what we thought is our disadvantage which is our accent. Guys, we are already accepted and appreciated globally. Proof of that are the BPO industry as well as the international students that come here to learn english.
Let's now break out of our cocoons. So to my fellow Filipinos, let's embrace our accent, let's Be Proud.

I’m Filipino and when my family immigrated to Canada, I got a job after only 3 days. My interview lasted 3 hours and at the end my prospective boss asked where I learned to speak English so well. I was very amused by his question, but I answered it with all honesty. My answer? Back home (in the Philippines). That’s all!
