In '93, the Hip-Hop movie soundtrack really began to take off. Thanks to 'Boyz N The Hood' and 'Juice', the soundtrack became must haves for you tape/CD collection for your ride or stereo. They were our versions of blaxploitation film soundtracks like SHAFT, SUPERFLY, or THE MACK. They were just as classic as rap albums themselves.
1993 was a great year for hip-hop 1993 and 1994 have to be my favorite years of rap music because there was so much great music that came out in both years 1995 was great too
Top 5 year imo. What holds it back from being number 1 is I don’t think it’s as deep some of the others (88, 94, 96). It’s top 3 (Doggystyle, 36 Chambers, Midnight Marauders) can go toe to toe with any top 3 though
Thank You for sharing. That De La Soul tape was in my Walkman frequently. Peace to The Hieroglyphics , Wu- Tang, Boot Camp Click , The Native Tongues, Cypress Hill, Soul Assassins, The D.I.T.C ,The Likwit Crew, The Hit Squad and Def Squad, Digital Underground and Get Low Playaz. Peace to C Bo, Latifah , Ice Cube, 40, Short, Salt N Peppa and Spinderella . That IBWin' Wit My Crewin' was my ish. I recall my Fam had that first Snoop album on tape and I thought it sounded cool. I can't even lie that Kris Kross and Super Cat song was cool to me. I remember Rudy Ray Moore was in that Illegal video Back In The Day. Spice 1 had some heavy albums, I think E A Ski production is underrated. My Fam had a promo Lethal Injection pen that looked like a syringe.
I love your videos, but as a hip hop head, I know that some of your information on these rap artists and their albums is inaccurate. Big Pun's 1st appearance wasn't on that Beatnuts' album and De La actually mixed in Smokey and not MJ on the "Break of Dawn" hook. I know that because I grew up listening to Smokey's "Quiet Storm" track.
Thanks for the corrections. Didn't know about Smokey. And you're right about pun he was on fat Joe's album Jose. I didn't hear him until the beatnuts song that's why I said most people hear him then because the fat Joe album wasn't that popular. But you're definitely correct on my mistakes I appreciate your input.
11:58..... that is not Michael Jackson they sample on the hook for Breakadawn....It is Smokey Robinson
Yeah I found that out yesterday lol. Thanks for the correction on that
The Bay area was killing it in 93 '
“WuTang’s highlights include…the entire album”
