7:00 I could totally see Kojima getting a tad upset people didn't understand his game and then going on to make the following games theme media literacy lol. Like really heavy-handed, too. The main character getting strung along by higher powers because he doesn't understand metaphors would be the sort of meta shit Kojami could lean into.
While I do think that Kojima can be really pretentious, I am excited for this because I genuinely wonder if it’s going to break the Xbox exclusive trend of being hyped beyond belief and getting the most middling reception known to man. Starfield did it, halo infinite did it, sea of thieves did it for a while. Either this is going to break the mold or sink the ship and either one’s going to be glorious to watch.
i always have a hard time understanding what people's definition of pretentious is, i've seen people say Control was pretentious. Because in my head pretentious is claiming your work have deeper meanings, present it like it but no reaching any sensible conclusion, like Tlous2. Even if don't like his style something you can't say is that his work isn't heavy with messages
@@ricardomiles2957 to me, pretentiousness isn’t about the messages or lack their oven your work, it’s about how you present yourself when discussing it. Glenn Danzig spent years and years making dumb songs about horror movies, and while a lot of those songs were good, that man thinks he’s an artist with a capital a and has a tendency to be up his own ass about the music he’s made. If Shakespeare could hear what English professors have to say about his work, he’d probably think he was the greatest thing since sliced bread, even though he only has maybe one or two good plays and the rest of them are just mid. Kojima is a man that knows he’s doing something special, or at least something unique, and he knows he’s got a Legion of fans behind him, so he treats every single thing he does as this big groundbreaking event. Sometimes he’s right and sometimes he’s not, but to me that’s why I consider him a little pretentious. The games are good most of the time, But the way he and everyone around him talks about them like they’re the next evolution of mankind just rubs me the wrong way a little bit.
@@SirLightsOut99 that was helpful and will keep that in my mind from now on but by your explanation it seems more like a different version of the usual Popular = Bad mentality than something that has to do with the autor.
@@ricardomiles2957 I never meant to assert that popular and bad were synonomous. If a thing is popular, especially at a Kojima level, then it’s probably like that for a reason. I’m not a big fan of Taylor Swift, but she’s been around for 20 years which is very rare for any musician, so she must be doing something right, and honestly I wouldn’t consider her very pretentious at all. If you look past her insane fanbase she actually seems pretty chill. While I do to agree agree with Martin Scorsese when he said that there were too many Marvel movies, I’m not gonna act like I didn’t go watch them and have a good time with them. I don’t believe at all that popular equals bad, all I was trying to get across was that there are some people who treat everything they do like some milestone event for mankind.
@@SirLightsOut99 sorry i half assed what i meant. At least in my experience, when you try to pin the reasons why most people dislike popular things is because of the people around them, fans and fandom behaviour. Which was the impression what i got. Here something i noticed despite being being a newer fan, pre MGSV which pretty much was the first main stream release for kojima where everyone was looking at him not just people who played mgs1, the most critiques towards Kojima were from fans who didn't like some story bits, and most of the adjectives adressed to him were about his writting. After MGSV and more specifically after Death Stranding critiques started coming from all sides and became more "generic" and not really focused on the games but on kojima and his fans.
Wat is with this weird obsession of seeing Kojima fail that i keep seeing in the comments. Like the dude is just a nerdy movie buff but people seem to put some weird persona on him, like he's some kind of artsy fartsy asshole. When he's only made the most videogamey games ever (that also contain some weird meta elements and indulgent cutscenes). Personally i've played MGS1, PT, MGS5, Death Stranding and some chunks of MGS4 and i cant really say I've seen anything that makes me want to call him a hack. Just that he could be reigned in a little
It's because he's slowly morphing into Japanese David Cage, and people want their memories of how cool MGS was to be as untainted as possible by not letting him get worse...
Kojima is very hit and miss with me, but I feel most of the hate that he is getting feels a little forced at times. I feel like most just want to see things fail rather than succeed just so they can have their “I told you so” moment for internet points.
Was that bit about the robot-ghost-arm thing in reference to Ocelot? I can't remember all the details but that dude seemed to be having the time of his life in MGS4 elemayo.
If it's a horror game with unreliable narrator elements, might also be all a fever dream strongly implied themes of overdose in a forgotten American town
Someone on Justinian knights stream suggested that all theses celebrities that Kojima hangs out with are like his 4 kings or his own fox hound unit... if Jeff Keighley had to be compared to a character from metal gear in his relation to Kojima, he'd be Johnny the dude always shitting himself
I like how you two are just like, occasionally mentioning OD as overdose, when wasn't the whole thing in Silent Hill about the evil cult that ran a drug ring? Reminder, that drug was called PTV, and that evil cult was the Order. OD as a drug term is very much intentional, and I'd wager, is a direct reference both to the silent hill cult and the game's relationship to PT.
Oh boy, it starts... outlandish conspiracy theories, grasping at straws and always expecting to be silent gear 0 stranding. The effects of r/NeverBeGameOver will take longer to dissipate than i expected

@@DaBoweh i'm not as much as interested to discuss the details (but for future references, i didn't saw any connections at all, even the "door" seems like forcing a little) but i was active in kojima's fandom when the "death stranding is MGS0/Sillent Hills" theory started to catch on and how the slippery slope works. It seemed innocent like people trying to figure out if there would be any easter eggs or concepts being carried over to people being 100% certain DS was Metal gear/Sillent hill until release(by the time the Director's cut was released there still was a number of people still "waiting" for metal gear/sillent hills and asking for more information in his social medias, to the point he had to adress it and deny in his podcast). Oh and how so many times i've seen people using that argument to back up any "proof" they found, kojima is crazy right? He did that fake studio thingy, he does all these stunts so anything is possible! Despite the fact there is method to his stunts and you can actually tell when it's one of his stunts or not. So many memories this brings and the username "FIB" still gives me ptsd. Look i could on and on, talk about a lot of incidents like the people who believed Kojima never left konami and that all the drama was an stunt or the people who obssessed over an AI run twitter account that posted B&W images that vaguely connected with kojima games and were conviced it was a marketing stunt. But my point is, any supposed connection to sillent hill will be at best an vague inspiration, maybe an easter egg, it won't be like kojima will take all the stuff he thought and made during Sillent hills and make it "off brand sillent hill". In case you are not one of the crazy ones yet, don't focus on this, wait for more inforation to be released and judge by what it is like that was kojima's first game ever.
@@ricardomiles2957 Maybe I should clarify because people just assume crazy extremist, but when I say that OD is clearly the silent hill game that should have been, and re-uses plans that kojima had for his take at sh when he worked at konami, I'm not literally saying that OD is canonically silent hill or is affiliated with konami. Because that's stupid. It's sort of like how Yomi was originally Street Fighter the card game but capcom refused to sign off so sirlin took the game he had at that point and turned it into what's become Yomi. When people referred to it as street fighter in card game form, that's because of what it is in spirit, what it was supposed to be, not the literal ip attached.

The thing that makes Kojima's writing style interesting is that he really likes to hammer in the point, often in very direct ways. That's how you get all these games where the main antagonist and cast constantly talk about the point of the story. Big thing is that, if left on his own, he usually does so at the cost of the storytelling, so he needs people to tell him when things are TOO heavy handed or brazenly told. He's very clearly got a lot to say, nobody would ever deny that, but someone's gotta be there to manage him or his writing will easily become super pretentious sounding.

So, when do we get the Guy Savage game from Naked Snake's nightmare sequence?
I'd really love if Kojima just pulls a "Fine, I'll do it myself," and makes 'Legally Distinct Silent Hill'.

Just like crypto it only keeps going up!
Anyone remember the reveal trailer for Deus Ex Human Revolution? That's the thing that pops up in my mind when you talk about that.
Kojimbo's Hollywood fetishism will be his undoing.
Just settle and never try anything, what a great message my guy.
i don't get it. What are you implying exactly? I mean yeah things decay, people loose interest, new trends appear. Let him enjoy the spotlight he couldn't have while working for someone else
Some of kojis decisions are dumb but others are genius. Man is a mad scientist basically.
The gall to even think “Genius of All Time Hiedmo Kouduso” would be HUMBLED with a Flop
7:00 I could totally see Kojima getting a tad upset people didn't understand his game and then going on to make the following games theme media literacy lol. Like really heavy-handed, too. The main character getting strung along by higher powers because he doesn't understand metaphors would be the sort of meta shit Kojami could lean into.
i really like kojima's writing and Death Stranding was probably my favorite game of the last several years so im in, whatever it is, I guess.
Can’t wait for Old Dirty Bastard to be in this game
oh god what if they do oedipal complex stuff
I was typing up a post about this turning out to be a corrupted Garfield game with Ode being the protagonist and then they mentioned Garfield.
@@RipOffProductionsLLCthat's bullshit and you know it.
Kojima is very hit and miss with me, but I feel most of the hate that he is getting feels a little forced at times.
I feel like most just want to see things fail rather than succeed just so they can have their “I told you so” moment for internet points.
I'm scared to ask, but what is Pat referencing when he predicts a conversation about Garfield and Odie? I need the lore.
OD
@@xternalmega That's it? It sounded like Kojima had just previously mentioned Odie for some fuckin reason in one of his games, surprised that's it.
Was that bit about the robot-ghost-arm thing in reference to Ocelot? I can't remember all the details but that dude seemed to be having the time of his life in MGS4 elemayo.
Sure was just yucking it up for at least half the game 👈🏻👈🏻

Someone on Justinian knights stream suggested that all theses celebrities that Kojima hangs out with are like his 4 kings or his own fox hound unit... if Jeff Keighley had to be compared to a character from metal gear in his relation to Kojima, he'd be Johnny the dude always shitting himself
My prediction: I don't think for a minute that the game will even be called OD.
not sure anyone has ever said death stranding was made to shit your pants before
These two are saying it was made to be successful and FUND the next project that will be made to shit your pants
@@ricardomiles2957 I mean, we're talking about Hideo Kojima here. I wouldn't say it if the man didn't love and have a long track record of doing this shit. That and, I mean, PT said silent hill on it and the OD trailer has PT assets, made by the same guy, so it's a bit weird of you to argue that OD has no connection to the silent hill franchise. What part of anything I said was outlandish straw-grasping?
If you really want to humble Kojima. Have Hollywood stop returning his calls. Leave him on read.

If OD turns out poorly, I'll gladly admit that Kojima's slipping. Until then, I'm reserving my judgement.
the S in Strand stands for strand
Damn how tf did I miss the leaks and trailer analysis extracting the Silent Hill refferences? I only saw the trailer and was pretty exited at the idea of it but I've barely seen anyone talking about it online, where's the PT hype?

The only way to humble Kojima would be if people thought a game he made was easy to understand, relatable, and predictable.

It isn't ATAMI.
It's more like a part of a structure.
