Elvis was a showman, the people that promote showmen are snowmen, and all the rest are rubes.
Point is, people are capable of SOOO much more, including singing just as good if not better than Elvis. But most never even try.

One of my favorite Elvis songs, along with Kentucky Rain, Suspicious Minds and In the Ghetto. I was never an Elvis fan in the early years, but he had a string of hits in the ‘70s that were great.

    • @ElvisRose_
      @ElvisRose_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Over the last year, I've really begun preferring his older material. Honestly, I can't see how people think he got less sexual in his older, it's just more nuanced because he's matured but he also had more to work with in the 70s, not to say that guy really needs much instrumentation but you get a sense of the uniqueness of the sound he wanted to hear even with covers like Bridge Over Troubled Water and Unchained Melody, he had this ability to get something out of any song that not even the original singer ever imagined possible which is why Elvis could cover anyone but covering Elvis is redundant, you won't do it better.

Great reaction! Elvis died on a Tuesday, and I remember because Happy Days was on Tuesday’s and all 13 channels of TV preempted regular programming to do a special about The King’s death. This was the biggest story since the bicentennial and while the bicentennial was technically in 1976 from a marketing standpoint it started around 1974! All the fast food places had red white and blue to go bags and cups. Cars, motorcycles and bicycles had red white and blue paint schemes on certain models. Everyone had flags in their yards! Clothes had Stars and Stripes! Bicentennial parties were going on long before 1976 with red white and blue streamers and plates! It was wild and after it was over it was like a hangover until Elvis died!

Burnin' Love was Elvis' last top 5 Single on the Billboard charts, topping out at #2 in 1972. This is well into the Las Vegas period. Elvis' lat number 1 single was Suspicious Minds from 1969, which hit just after In The Ghetto went to #3 earlier in the year.
Way Down was the last single by Elvis in 1977, reaching #18 in the US and #1 in the UK.

It was noted after Elvis died that the 19th anniversary of his beloved mother's death had come just two days before his own in 1977. Of course, he had his own health and drug issues that expedited his demise, but that pain never went away for him.

The live versions of Elvis' songs taken from his Vegas shows are actually better to react to than his studio recordings because, not only do you get his voice, you also get his stage presence, and Elvis had a tremendous stage presence!

Hey, if you want to see ELVIS Live, check out his LEGENDARY
    "'68 COMEBACK SPECIAL",
which was produced to reintroduce ELVIS to the current Music Scene of the late 1960s. ELVIS had just spent several years making Movies, but he was unhappy with the Scripts he had been getting.
A new Producer was hired to update his sound for a younger Audience. Recorded in December 1968 at the NBC Burbank Studios. This Iconic Film marked the return of The KING to LIVE performances, and the rest, as they say, is Showbiz History!

Baz Luhrmann's biopic, "ELVIS", is pure fire. Austin Butler (as Elvis) is nothing short of spectacular. He devoted 3 years of his life (seriously, countless hours, day in and day out) to studying every little body movement, every little singing voice inflection, every speaking voice inflection, every little mannerism of Elvis including every scrap of biographical information about Elvis that was available. The goal, however, wasn't to "impersonate" Elvis in this movie. It was all about wanting to "get inside" the man as a "person" as well as inside Elvis the "performer" and to create a gestalt portrait of the man. Did he succeed? Oh, you bet. He nailed it. Gotta be an Oscar nomination if not a win for best actor. Some die-hard Elvis fans are complaining that several significant events in the film are out of sequence with the timeline in which they actually occurred. There's a reason for that. It's too complicated to explain here, but it has to do with the artistry of film-making and trying to figure out how best to cram as much of such an enormously complex life story into a couple hours of screen time. Other fans are whining "He doesn't look like Elvis!!!" That's about the most ridiculous comment they could come up with. He doesn't look like Elvis because.... duh!....News Flash..... he isn't Elvis! LOL But after about 15 minutes into the movie you'll forget about that because Austin Butler seems to have literally "channeled" the essence of what made Elvis.... well..... Elvis. I've been a huge Elvis fan ever since he started out in the early 50s and, in my humble opinion, the movie is a "Must See" for anyone who doesn't know the whole story of the life and times of the "King of Rock-n-Roll" and wants to get a pretty darn good picture of what it was all about.

Perfect timing on this reaction. Elvis passed away on August 16, 1977 at age 42. I remember that day like it was yesterday. One of the saddest days in entertainment history. RIP Elvis. We still miss you 45 years later. Someone mentioned the movie The Game Plan that features this song. It is a fun movie that has The Rock in it. Your girls would love this movie as well. Such fun.

Guess what...When Elvis did the Live broadcast "Aloha from Hawaii" (1973), they made him change the lyrics when it got to 'the flames are now licking my body' part. It was too suggestive for TV, at the time.
ELVIS was my FIRST concert! (I was in 6th grade and loved Elvis's music)
My mother got tickets for her and I, and we sat in the 6th row from the stage.
Well, it was the first time I realized that the women there liked Elvis for MORE than just his music! (I think that was the light-bulb moment for me, that the women saw him as being sexy when he sang).
Elvis was classy, but very very very..(another) very, SEXY at the same time.
So when Jay caught that line, it was definitely a line that Elvis worked when he was on stage...He didn't even have to do anything, but say the words and women were over the moon! :)

Just do yourselves a favor and watch Aloha from Hawaii from 1973. Just do it. You will love every second of it. The voice, the band, the background singers, the outfit, the scarves, the dancing. His interaction with the band and singers and with the audience will make you love him. You will learn that Elvis loved music and you feel that. Elvis was incredible. Just incredible.

I agree the stage versions are great, but do you realize that by only watching them you're missing out on so many great songs that Elvis never performed live or that weren't filmed? And most on TH-cam now include slide shows or random videos. I hope you'll give them a chance.
