The locking diffs and changing gears are my favourite thing about my TRX4. It adds a whole other element to crawling, and I just don't find crawlers without them as fun.
@@Bikes_N_Adventure agree, to me locking diffs are useless in a crawler, dig definitely comes to use tho & 2 speeds ok I can take it or leave it, generally when crawling in real life your going about 1-3 mph
@@ConditionZero76 2 speed is not useless in a scaler crawler. There are plenty of times when wheel speed got me out of situations that other crawlers could not get through. I decided I wanted a crawler this spring, so I spend a few months watching videos and reading about both cars. They are both capable crawlers with decent scale bodies to choose from. I just read a guy wrote he's selling his Gladiator because everything breaks and is going to keep his Redcat Gen 8 Axe. I have a 21 Bronco and nothing ever breaks. I drive with a friend who had to upgrade so much on his Redcat now he's into it $700 and has the same time on as my TRX4. I'm glad for my decision as it was the right one.
I have a few trx4 trucks at different stages of mods and a couple scx10.3 rigs…some mods to one of my 10.3 early bronco. They all perform well but each have their best areas of performance! I think the TRX4 is my overall winner for the locking diffs and 2 speed. Although one of my scx10.3 rigs has a 2 spd and dig which does very well, but the trx4 still out shines it in many ways!
Great comparison as always. I have the gladiator, & I'm very pleased with it, but the bronco has been hard to ignore with it's spectacular looks & amazing performance. 👍
They are both good crawlers but I will go for the TRX4 for the remote locking front and rear differentials functions. I feel it's just more fun able to change the differentials on different situations. BTW, the SCX10 III whining running gear noise just drive me crazy. Don't have that problem with the TRX4 especially on two wheels drive.
It’s so hard to judge. I know when I find a good line on rocks, sometimes I can do it first time and sometimes it take several times. They both look very capable. I’m picking trx4. And the reason why is because I have both a trx4 sport and an scx10 ii. The trx 4 is built better. Better quality parts. But I love them both equally!! Haha Thanks for the awesome vids as always!!
That's my take as well. They are very close in performance. So preference on body style and brand can be pursued without much risk. Traxxas has a way better body mount for sure and options with 2-speed and locking diffs.
Agreed. I also have a TRX4 sport and a UMG10 and the plastics are so much better on the Traxxas. Both were a kit so I was able to see how they are put together and how they feel. First thing I noticed was how much beefier the axles and gears are on the TRX4. I also noticed that the drivetrain felt a little bit smoother on the TRX4. I don't have the 10.3 so maybe Axial addressed some of the issues. I love both trucks but if I could only have one, I'd pick the TRX4.
@@Albertotron then you know exactly what I’m talking about. The only thing I thought was neat about axial scx10 ii was the curved gears in the axles. Hi! Nice Test! TRAXXAS TRX4-BRONCO: these body-mount (snapper), folding mirrors, Diff - Locks, Two Speed (good for a Trail - Crawler), AXIAL SCX 10 III GLADIATOR: good Performance /articulation, grip... I like both... If you not an expert, buy them RTR and have fun!!! I(Gladiator "Owner") think, for trailing they are good, you can't be wrong... no matter witch one you buy. If you will tune them, there is enough to find for the Gladiator (it is longer on the market). TRX4-BRONCO: I don't know what fits from the TRX4-DEFENDER...
So it have the Traxxas bronco, and it’s pretty capable and high quality. Although the front bumper on it cuts some capability, I recommend keeping it on because it prevents some body scratches. This crawler goes fast enough in 2nd gear to break stuff and crash, so o recommend keeping it if you run a 3s lipo.
Hey :) great comparison! I really want to buy a crawler soon but i can't decide which one. I kinda likr the Bronco but i'd love to see some interiors. It looks so empty without eventho the bodys sick. Are there any interiors or which one could you recommend the most to maybe put in some work and modify them also with a new engine etc.? have a great day
That was a great Apples to Apples comparison. I seem to go with Axial because of its history. Traxxas has a LOT of components that “could” fail. Really there is no looser.
I have a Bronco 2021 and a SCX10iii Wrangler, they are both beautiful models. I dare say that the Axial looks better... but. The Traxxas outperforms the Axial at the range. And it has a lot more features, and its more fun (high speed, open diffs runs) for less money to boot. I also feel that the stock Traxxas tires are much much better. The Bronco is the winner hands down.
I have both. I activated the second gear on the Axial (extra microservo, 4+ channel controller). Besides making it more expensive, the second gear is barely faster than the first. Traxxas gives you the right controller with the second gear and you really notice the speed difference. But no light system on the Bronco and bad servo as is Traxxas tradition. That was another $180 to put lights and decent servo. In the end, both are a lot of fun and great quality. Just consider if you want to spend that extra money on any. If I had to choose any based on no extra budget to spend, I will go with the Axial, because it has lights, decent servo and dig function which is cool.
Yeah, the 2-speed of the SCX10.3 is really an embarrassment to their fine car. That's perhaps why they don't ship it with it and don't have a capable radio to even do the upgrade. It's a lot of hassle and barely faster than first gear.1.5x. Gladiator performs well though and this packaging hits the spot.
@@themountain59 I have 7 crawlers. They all have great things as well as not so good or bad things. My favorite brand is Traxxas. Great video and comparison. Really helped me make a decision on which to buy. Both are great, I did really like the Axial's performance. But honestly, your video was super helpful. Thank you.
My opinion is you should have kept the spare tire and winch on the Bronco to do a "stock out of the box" comparison. Both are great rigs but you automatically skewed the results since the TRX would not be able take some of the lines through the rocks. That being said, I would gladly own a TRX4 and already own a Gladiator.
Good point. Knowing how harmful a full size spare off the back is to climbing performance, it was more useful to compare the two chassis than straight out of the box

Great review as always it always feels like you're Traxxas home boy. Don't get me wrong I am too. Why didn't you remove the rack off the Axial to make it "even".
That is not a bad idea. Will try that. The reason is the two bodies felt on equal footing without the rear tire on the trx4 hanging off the back. The bed rack of the Gladiator put it close to the SUV body of the TRX4. Also the TRX4 has a heavy internal clipless body mount structure. Wanted to test the two chassis really and not have something that really mess up abilities
My Buddy has a Bronco and I must say the TRX4 is superior in pretty much every way. Butttt. I wanted to be the underdog so I picked up the SCX10 iii kit and am using a lot of your upgrades from your videos to try to compete. It’s been fun!
it's not superior, but the kit version" 12.3" can't compete with the 13.9 gladiator not even close, the Gladiator will nearly climb a vertical wall, it will far out climb the Bronco straight up or sidehilling otherwise there pretty close... in stock rtr form the Gladiator will out climb my Thousand dollar custom LCG build as far as vertical climb & sidehill without tumbling.. 👍🏼 Good luck
Watched a test on the anti foams today. I'm sold definitely. I like how you can tune them as you add brass to your rig and I wouldn't think running in water will saturate them like foam.
My only question is when you complained about the turning of the axial after the side hilling and V notch. You said the turning radius on the TRX4 was better. But you forgot to engage the dig. If the dig was used as needed that part of the performance would not have been an issue right?
That is a good point. We thought about that too while editing the video and seeing that 3 point turn on the notch descent. There are a few situations where DIG would have been handy and that is one of them in this video. Maybe we'll do a separate video on DIG and when it works and doesn't in our course. Problem is half the time, it causes failures since the vehicle will slide down. Same with lock/unlock diffs to some degree.
Hey Francis, hope you get your hands on the new Rebel rc Jeep. It's actually the same as the Absima Sherpa that came out in Europe a while ago. Looks pretty amazing and is fully loaded with stuff for 460 bucks!
it has some weird Panhard bar on the rear-end that screws up the articulation (prob for chassis roll) but still , plus it looks to have an axle mounted servo vs a chassis mount, not very scale & no interior.. those were the glearing things that jumped out at me first, otherwise it looks nice... 👍🏼

Axial SCX10 III? I'd go for that one if you think you're gonna be an upgrader and seeking performance from this rig in the future. The TRX4 is good if you're just gonna leave it alone and enjoy it. Faster with 2-speed and handles well with unlocking diffs
"Stock" takes rear tyre off. It'd not for decoration purposes as the rear tyre does hinder the performance. Not exactly out of the box if the body has already been modified for its advantage.
I have too say they look very close but the trx4 wins in my opinion and u get 2 speed with locking diffs and better axles where they are not one piece.
To compare the Trx-4 with a scx10 it’s more then a disgrace…Trx-4 out of the box it’s the top, when the scx10 you need to spend 3-400$ to make it even close.
traxxas is great beginner rc, you need to spend extra money for lights, interior, diff locks are useless only make the truck too expensive ,also electronics is a toy grade.Axial for me, looks better and is more challenging to upgrade and drive, it all makes it more hobby and enthusiast grade.ESC on Axial can be adjusted with programming card, Traxxas ESC is a joke, also Bronco body look like New Bright body which is a hard body...
Can we say Axial fan boy? The electronics that come with the axials are 100% trash. The DIGG feature is a laughing joke in our club, looks like a dog dragging his ass after he takes a shit LMAO! I’m currently looking into getting a new tc crawler and am considering the gmade gr01 gom but I am not sure if it is good or not does anyone have any advice
So after installing the shv800 servo on the 2021 bronco, I’ve noticed there is a lot of steering flex in the system and doesn’t give me all the steering that I’m actually wanting. How could I fix this given that the panhard mount is part of the fender wells?
It's already best in class with a steering radius of about 18 inches (unlocked). But yes, you can trim, trim away any binding points and get a fraction more steering. Make sure the endpoints on the servo are perfect.
Traxxas electronics are junk, horrible for the money. Not saying Axial is much better but they have them by a smidge. It seems to be a toss up, I have the Gladiator as well as the 80's bronco. Both perform to my liking. Someone needs to break the cycle of jeeps and broncos though!
Scx10 3 is garbage and the dig unit is pointless on the rocks doesn't disengage or engage without moving the vehicle and that can disturb things when in a pinch , and when do you usually need dig ? In a pinch , go traxxas all day everyday
I have ZERO issue with mine, same servo from the factory a yr ago, mine doesn't move a centimeter it engages & disengages 1 click, learn how to set your endpoints "correctly" you'll be amazed!!
I don't understand why they chose the DIG function over unlocking the diffs. Is locking the back tires something people have been clamoring for? Dollar for dollar I think the Traxxas is by far the winner with all the extra features.

Took the axial and did some good mods, and its really really good!
I will check it out
@@RCReviewChannel sounds good! Its up for pre-order and will be released tomorrow. They are available in a gunmetal grey and orange for now. Im going to pull the trigger today and grab the grey one. I was going to get the new trx4 or gen 8 axe but the deal on this is too good to pass up.
Does the axial have suspension options? excluding upgrades.
Great comparison video. I compared the same 2 also. Easily my most popular video. Stock as well. Still love running these 2 rigs together. Not the best I have but definitely look great and fun to crawl.
For me I find the gladiator is more fun to drive even though the traxxas may be a bit more capable. And as far as what's a Trail truck and what's a crawler is up to the user. There is no right or wrong in rc. Whatever you have fun doing. I crawled an xmaxx for crying out loud. Got grief for doing too lol 😆 😅 🙃.
@@hellorc7678 I also crawled an xmaxx, and when it broke it was hilarious watching a trx4 a scx10 iii JL and a scx10 ii cherokee pull It back to the parking lot 🤣🤣
Right on!
I know I'm being biased here, but I'm waiting for you to get an SCX6 before I watch any reviews. Do you have any plans on getting one?
I own both of them in my collection. I even run the bronco in the recent event in my state..
Why doesnt axial come with a 2 speed a locking diffs, you'd think they would by now
Axial has 2-speed in the SCX10.3 but it is a poor implementation at only 1.5x speed so it's largely been ignored.
Question. Do you still have the video of the xmaxx tire venting? Nice video!
I don't think I have that.
getting into this hobby for the first time now. Have an opportunity to by an Axial for $300 barely used. Or should I buy the TRX4 brand new for $529. The cheapskate in me says Axial but the buy once cry once in me says TRX4? What say ya'll?
Axial SCX10 III? I'd go for that one if you think you're gonna be an upgrader and seeking performance from this rig in the future.
The TRX4 is good if you're just gonna leave it alone and enjoy it. Faster with 2-speed and handles well with unlocking diffs
Great stuff! Thank you for this! 💯💯💯💯
Great vs Great 👍
Traxxas wins but until they can drop the proprietary stuff I don't want it .
This is a great video comparison.
Glad you liked it!
That was a great video though? sorry for all the questions.
Traxxas trx4 is a beast.🔥🔥
"Stock" takes rear tyre off. It'd not for decoration purposes as the rear tyre does hinder the performance. Not exactly out of the box if the body has already been modified for its advantage.
Get over it! TRX-4 wins!
I have too say they look very close but the trx4 wins in my opinion and u get 2 speed with locking diffs and better axles where they are not one piece.
Does the Axial have a Cruise control option? I think the TRX-4 wins bang for your buck.
Traxxas electronics are junk. Most RTRs electronics are though.
Trx4 all the way.
spot on. Great review.
What camera did you use to film this one? Looks great!
gopro hero10
@@RCReviewChannel i got the 9 and want to get the maxx lense. Thanks for the response im over here in the north east where the rocks are endless.
To compare the Trx-4 with a scx10 it’s more then a disgrace…Trx-4 out of the box it’s the top, when the scx10 you need to spend 3-400$ to make it even close.
Both are awesome
How about not paying over $500 for a 1/10 crawler and buy a TRX-4 sport and out crawl both of them,
Does all crawlers come with brushed motors ?
Most prefer the brushed, they run so much smoother at very slow speeds vs brushless. Most of your RTR are brushed.
cool vid! big like! 👍👍👍
Big thanks
2 modern day warriors
Axial will never keep up with Traxxas and the Axial 2 speed transmission is a joke
True. Traxxas needs to update that 4-year old platform
Trx4 bronco 21 is good!
The Bronco has the edge on turning radius.
For sure. Tighter steering angle and shorter wheelbase.
COOL ✌️
beans
Your missing the best one. The element hd sendero
That is coming. Knightrunner though since that's the new one and long wheelbase
It out crawls Traxxas and axial out of the box but better is very subjective
@@RCReviewChannel the ecto would be a better match most likely. The Knight runner is more of a small tire scale truck.
Trx4 all day
😔 im jealous of this wish i have one
Either one is a gift
traxxas is great beginner rc, you need to spend extra money for lights, interior, diff locks are useless only make the truck too expensive ,also electronics is a toy grade.Axial for me, looks better and is more challenging to upgrade and drive, it all makes it more hobby and enthusiast grade.ESC on Axial can be adjusted with programming card, Traxxas ESC is a joke, also Bronco body look like New Bright body which is a hard body...
Can we say Axial fan boy? The electronics that come with the axials are 100% trash. The DIGG feature is a laughing joke in our club, looks like a dog dragging his ass after he takes a shit LMAO! TRX-4 Anyday over the Axials. Don't be jelly bro, the locking diff is so damn cool and works so well! Nothing like getting stuck or hung up and flipping a switch to see it actually work. Oh, and flip another switch and smoke the axial at 11Mph. lol. Get over it bro, you purchased the wrong one.
@@explod329 what else to buy when I already have like 5 trx`s ;)
@@AlphaPhaseSleep sure you do.
I got one for sale .. new silver with 2.2 method wheels and traxxas tires and the traxxas lift kit. With the traxxas led light kit , roof rack with spare 2.2 on top. With hella round led. Hmu if interested anybody.
Our Traxxas electronics have been stable at least. The Axial electronics seems to have really stepped up with the Hobbywing ESC and better radios.
Second to comment 🤘🤘🤘
podium
The Jeep dominates the bronco in the real world... 😆
Just can’t love a gladiator… that’s all.
Josh richie
If you have problems with your dig, you haven’t set it up right and are using a weak servo.
I have absolutely no problems with mine, it works perfect 👌🏻
@@badvermin They like the look of a dog dragging his ass on the ground after taking a shit! LOL
Great vs Great 👍
Traxxas wins but until they can drop the proprietary stuff I don't want it .
What do u mean by proprietary stuff ???
@@themountain59 So I've only build the sport kit so u can't use their esc with another radio or use their radio with different esc .
