Frédéric Chopin wrote his Trois nouvelles études ("three new studies") for piano in 1839, as a contribution to "Méthode des méthodes de piano", a piano instruction book by Ignaz Moscheles and François-Joseph Fétis. They are often erroneously described as posthumous. These études are less technical than the composer's Op. 10 and 25 and retain Chopin's original formula for harmonic and structural balance. The Études: 1)The first of the Trois nouvelles études is an intimate piece in F minor. It develops students' facility with 3-on-4 polyrhythms. 2)The melody of the second étude in A-flat major sits atop a series of chords in the right hand with a simple bass in the left hand. It develops students' facility with 2-on-3 polyrhythms. 3)The third and last étude, in D-flat major, is probably the most technically challenging in this collection. It develops independence of voices and articulation in the right hand, with the upper melodic line quite legato over a staccato alto accompaniment. Some of the reaches required between the alto and soprano lines might be difficult for pianists with smaller hands.

@-insert forgettable name- I'm an upper-intermediate pianist, but I haven't played too many pieces with polyrhythms. The one I can think of the most that I've played is Chopin's Nocturne in B-Flat minor, Op. 9, No. 1. These études definitely seem much easier than a LOT of Chopin's other works lol (*cough* Fantaisie-Impromptu). I've just started trying to learn that, and I can barely play the first supermeasure and a half...at a _slow_ pace. 😂😂

I have recently started learning Chopin's Nocturne Op.15 No.2 in F sharp Major and I was wondering whether you would have any interest to it. I would expect that you have a very busy schedule with the uploads on your channel and of course your family life. I would very much appreciate your interpretation of the piece which I have come to love.
wow, had to come watch the live version of no.3 after seeing your complete etudes. couldn't believe you were playing both lines with your right hand, the staccato / legato is absurdly good

Do you have to use the sostenuto pedal to get the bass notes legato? Edit: For the third etude I mean, to still get the staccato notes in the right hand
Yes the 3rd is horribly difficult. How is it possible to play it so clearly with a legato and a staccato at the same time. Imagine, there is no pedal possible.
Yes....etudes nouvelles....judging from no.1 it seems as if Chopin had invented a new motif on the composition of studies. No 2. kind of reminds me of a quicker played opus 10 no.4 with all of it's subtle chromaticism.

@@christianvennemann9008 Check out Chopin’s A flat major Nocturne op 32 no 2, it has a little polyrhythm but its not too bad. Such a great Nocturne!

The three is something I've learned in the past, and I got to say 3rd one even though it's not polyritmic, it's the hardest imo

Actually it’s easier to play legato and staccato then it is to play only legato

These peices seem more or less easy from technical standpoint. Deeply deceptive, as the fact of the matter they are quite hard.
