    My wife & I got married at Apurva Kempinski Bali on 23rd December 2022, with all of all of our close friends & family members attending. Then on the next day on 24th we all had Christmas Eve dinner buffet there. Then another Christmas Dinner the day after that on 25th. It was 3 days in a row. My wife was extremely satisfied with the service & food quality. I can give a score 9.9/10 overall as nothing is perfect in this world. We stayed at the Kempinski Villa, it was a 2 storey property with its own swimming pool inside. Inspired by LABRODORITE Floor from Madagascar at Apurva Kempinski Lobby , my wife decided to install that exactly the same Granite on our new house. It costed around $725 per square metre, including installation. We plan to return to Apurva Kempinski again to celebrate our anniversary this year.

    Indonesian here, great review! Stayed here once, as well as the Ritz Carlton next door. As far as property goes, Apurva is magnificent. The design is just on another level, but why did the owners (I even know one of them, a billionaire ofcourse) choose to go with Kempinsky is beyond me. Kempinsky also manages one of the most high profile properties in Jakarta, and I have to say their standard is just not there. It is not on par with Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, St Regis, Waldorf or Langham. It really does not deserve these properties.
    One more thing, because at the moment The Apurva is the hottest hotel in Bali for Indonesians, I think their head gets a little too big!
    Keep up the good work, I would've never heard of Belmond Jimbaran if not because of you.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks very much! And yes I agree it’s quite popular with locals now and suspect that was the intent and why the design was in a Javanese direction as many people have questioned in the comments. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

      I think Eddy Katuari (the owner of Apurva and also the Wings Group). Picked Kempinski because the group have a strong relationship with Djarum which hold Hotel Indonesia at least until 2055. His daughter married the son of Robert Hartono.
      Pretty sure it was the Hartono who recommended them to take Kempinski to manage Apurva. Sure as hell they got a good deal on revenue sharing between Wings and Kempinski on Apurva.
      It's all about the profit and trust my friend.

    i absolutely agree when you said the video doesn't do the granite flooring justice. i was here last year, and i still can't forget the feeling i had when i stepped into the lobby! it truly feels like you are on a majestic castle floating above the universe. the granite, especially at night, glows magnificently and the four structures across the the lobby makes you feel like kings and queens!

      I am going to stay a night there this august , but visited there when i had staycation at Intercontinental Bali (One of the comfiest and coziest not-too-big resort). And i had a Hotel envy so bad i booked immediately for next month, just because of the Lobby that smacked me with a shining weird never seen marble floor. it was something else that i kept pacing back and forth to investigate what shine was that. It was this magnificent sheen alone that made me book the hotel, didnt and still dont even know how the room is til i watch this video.

I've been watching your hotels and flights reviews for some time now, and I must say this is some high-quality content. We had a family dinner at Koral last December. The food was good and meticulously prepared, and the server had a story to tell for each meal served. Eating while watching fish in the tank was quite relaxing too. The beach was quiet and serene. They installed the wave breaker so you can have your own lagoon to chill out.

    Personally I wouldn't choose a mega resort when visiting Bali. I want to be closer to Balinese culture and the charm of the island. I think the large scale is a distraction. There are many, however, who simply want a beach holiday and would find this the perfect resort. Your video review is fantastic. I really appreciate the way you get up close with the details of the property; that you mentioned the lobby floor tiles, restaurant design elements, named the architect and designer, and related some resort design features to Balinese rural traditions. As a guest I would have missed so many of these - overwhelmed by the size of the property.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, generally I agree. My two favorite resorts from this series are both much smaller scale- but, I can’t deny how stunning the structure was in person. So hard to convey it in video. Thanks very much for your kind words and watching 🙏🏻

    I’ve been waiting for this one! I totally agree with avoiding the villas! Spent a week here in the Sriwijaya Villa (probably around the same time as your visit!) and I really missed the ocean view and was annoyed about how far everything was from me. You could get a similarly elevated experience by getting a suite, while having a private pool, cliff lounge, and most importantly ocean views. Other than that though, the service here was top notch and probably my favorite designed resort in the entire world so far.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yah, for me one of the reasons I’m not a fan of the villas here (and at almost all other properties that put the villas on the street side of the main structure) is bc you totally miss the beach atmosphere. Cannot see or hear the ocean/wind… I’m sure the villas are spectacular but you could be anywhere!
      Very glad you enjoyed your time while there nonetheless. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    Somehow I missed this review when it first came out. Well done as always and this is a place I would definitely want to stay at. The main buildings remind me ever so slightly of the 50s cult classic, "House on Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price. The exterior house in the film was a Frank Lloyd Wright home in LA which albeit much smaller had somewhat similar design properties especially at night as lit. Looking forward to staying there someday but it may be a while as I have decided that I will not leave Vietnam till Covid has been eradicated for three full years. Not that I am afraid of covid... I am afraid I met get stuck outside as my life is here now in Saigon.

    Thanks for this comprehensive review. My wife and I are researching hotels for a 4-day Bali extension to our 15-day Indonesian trip (a vacation from the vacation). Your review made us pick this property as one of the 3 we're going to stay at. We want to experience as many top hotels as we can so, for 4 days, we're doing Ulaman, Kempinski, and Ayana. Wish we have more time, but this should be a good intro to "amazing" stays in Bali.
    We really love your attention to detail and honest opinion. There's alot of travel videos out there, but there's not enough "meat" to balance out the fluff. Keep making quality content man. These videos are valuable for others in their trip research (which is a big part of the fun). We're doing our part in reviewing various properties we've stayed at, but we are doing it for fun so...lots of 1-shot takes and simple edits 😊.
    Your videos are well-made and the efforts behind them are greatly appreciated. 7+ hrs of raw footage distilled into 34 mins of video is a ton of work. Thanks for that.

    I stayed here on New Years eve 2021. It was jampacked mostly with my fellow Indonesian guests. Still though, the crowds somehow did not reduce my appreciation and awe of this hotel. The breakfast at that time was obviously crowded and we always need to queu every morning although it was never took so long for us to find a table. Thank you very much for such a well described and informative video of this property. It is crucial that you explain everything the way it is and how it can be better for others like myself who plan to go there one day in the future. I for sure do not want to go to the other side of the world and fine dusty, moldy, dirty, grimy hotel rooms or hotels. Now in this day and age it is more important to have high level of hygiene everywhere.

    "the sultan of Ipanema" 😆. Always enjoy your one-liners. No joke, this resort is breathtaking. The floor tiles in this place had me drooling, l need them in my home, I never thought l could be so entranced by floor tiles, yet here we are!! The layout of the property has the "wow" factor l love it. Your room upgrade, despite the dust, was a beautiful room........ and then we get to the restaurant and all those rules, and l wonder who in the heck they think they are? Minimum spends, no table/seating requests, no kids, no photography, and it's a no thanks, l will eat elsewhere, their loss. Thanks for another top-quality video 👍

    I am glad to know that I am not the only one who is so particular about dust in hotel rooms. I do run my fingers across the surfaces to check as well. I am allergic to dust so it is a pain. I find many hotels don’t have a thorough quality check for places or areas that trap dust in their rooms. It does not surprise me anymore regardless of their “5-star-ness”.
    This is one sprawling property. Reminds me of some Mayan/Aztec structure with the Balinese style, of course.

    Any thoughts on St Regis Bali vs Kempinski for a honeymoon? Regis regular suite is priced similar to a 1 bedroom villa at Kempinski and appears more tailored to couples vs families, but I could be wrong

    • @tfft
      @tfft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The St. Regis has always struck me as a very overpriced property. I’ve yet to see or hear a thing about the property that would warrant $600-$700 a night for their base rooms when their direct competitors are generally at least 30% cheaper. Assuming they’ve dealt with their housekeeping issues, in this case I’d go for the Apurva, but only if it’s one of the villas in the tower. The ground floor villas on the street side feel very disconnected. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

      The research I did for the script indicated Javanese statues in multiple publications- I’m not an expert so I need to trust sources :) But yes many others have corrected me in the comments haha. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

      Yes, they're Batak statues from the Toba Highland in North Sumatra. Also, they are many Batak artefacts in the lobby area which was not mentioned in this footage. The grandeur of this property is unmatched.
